Give a Novica Gift for Christmas, Review and $50 Gift Certificate Giveaway #ComplimentaryProductReceived

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary $50 GC to get something for myself for posting this provided information and the opportunity to give another away to my readers. My thoughts are mine and my family's own opinion and have not been altered by anyone else. I did not receive any other compensation for doing this post.

NOVICA helps change the lives of artisans in developing nations, while offering us extraordinary handmade gifts, jewelry, apparel, and home decor. There are so many talented artists and artisans around the world. NOVICA provides these unique, hard-to-find items on their internet website at great prices. These services are all fair trade, meaning that they don't charge the artists and artisans any listing fees and the artists and artisans remain fully independent. They are free to raise their prices, lower their prices, or remove their items from their website whenever they please. This website is great to buy something from for your special someone for Christmas, just remember since these items are coming all the way from the country they are made in, the shipping might take longer than expected.

This is a review I wrote about the artisan who made my metal wall sculptures.

I received $50 to spend on Novica. I wanted something that could decorate the side of my farm's well house. I needed something bright and cheery so that when guests come up our driveway they would notice it. I found a gorgeous steel wall sculpture of a Violet Hummingbird by J. Blas from Mexico. It was the perfect price because it was just a cent less than the GC I received and since I am a Novica Ambassador I received free shipping. It is shaped by hand and has cutout motifs on its wings and tail feathers. It is the perfect size too at just 21.25 inches high x 15 inches wide x 2.4 inches deep you can still tell from the road coming to our home that it is a hummingbird. I also learned that in Mexico when someone sees a hummingbird in flight, they make a wish. I love this sentiment so much!

I had purchased a different wall sculpture from the same artist a number of years back called 'Cave Art Pony' which is hung on a wall in my living room and I love it too. These metal wall sculptures are so unique and wonderful! I highly recommend J. Blas and his artwork!

Assorted face masks from Novica.

Be sure to check out Novica's selection of beautiful face masks. They will keep you safe during COVID times and your purchase will help the artisans too. These are all unique and there is sure to be one that fits your style.

AtmosFX Digital Decorating Kit Review

The AtmosFX Digital Decorating Kit is a all-in-one digital decorating system. It has a high-quality standard-definition (SD) projector that creates stunning displays for Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Valentine's, birthdays, Independence Days, and much, much more! The projector has been preloaded with 14 AtmosFX Digital Decorations: two Christmas themed scenes, eight Halloween themed scenes, and four other seasonal scenes that turn every occasion into a celebration. It also has an SD card slot and USB slots to increase your digital capability, making it easy to add additional AtmosFX scenes.

Includes:
  • Projector
  • Professional mounting tripod
  • Remote control (2 AAA batteries not included)
  • UL power adapter
  • Projection material (4' x 6')
  • Digital Decorations SD Card with 14 pre-loaded scenes

How We Used This and Our Thoughts:
I set the AtmosFX Digital Decorating Kit up for Christmas this year and since it came with a manual of instructions it was fairly easy to do. I got it out of the box and plugged it in to the UL power adapter and then found a great spot to project from and to. We have two houses on our property and the front one has larger windows and the front window closest to the driveway can be seen great from the road as you come up onto the house. So I opted to use that one for the projection. I screwed the projector onto the tripod and pointed the projector towards the window plugging it into the closest outlet. The tripod was very stable and you could position the projector on it up or down and straighten it out easily on it to get the perfect level.

AtmosFX Digital Projector set up.

I placed the SD card into the slot, turned the projector on, and went through the menu of scenes that were preloaded onto the machine using the up and down arrows. I placed batteries in the remote control thinking that this would be easier to flip through the menu and play the scene that I wanted from a distance, but the remote didn't work at all from a far off range. You had to be super close to the projector and pointing it at it for it to work. The buttons on the projector were a lot less finicky.

I looked at both the Christmas scenes, but ultimately, I picked All Through the House, Part 1 & 2, from Night Before Christmas. It was my favorite of the preloaded Christmas scenes. There were also two different formats to pick from, vertical and horizontal depending upon the configuration of your window. Our window was more horizontal so I picked that one. I placed the projection material over the window on the inside. The window was slightly longer than the material was tall, so I had to mess with it multiple times to get it placed correctly. Unfortunately, this used up more of the 3M double sided sticky squares that came with it than I would have and I ended up having only two to work with when I finally got it placed right. After a while it fell down on one side, so I ended up stapling it down instead.

AtmosFX All Through The House movie clips in my window

The scenes had to be focused with the dial and zoom lens so they wouldn't be all blurry at first. They came with sounds as well and I opted to mute those because they became a bit annoying after a while over and over again of silly belly chuckles from Santa. You can't really hear the sounds from outside the house where you would be seeing the projection anyway. The Santa they picked for the scene was a believable one with a real beard though which was cool. I also loved that the projection made my home look very festive...complete with a Christmas tree with lights and a roaring fireplace. I liked the look of the scene from the outside of my home even though it didn't quite fit my window because the projection was a bit wider still. The image quality was great. It looks best when all the lights are out in the house and it is dark outside as well though.

The other Christmas scene was Deck the Halls, from Santa's Workshop and it was very cheesy with silly looking elves in my honest opinion. I am glad the All Through the House one included because I really liked it a lot. I also loaded a photo I had done two years ago of my horses in Christmas hats eating candy-canes onto a USB thumb drive and plugged it into the projector. When I projected the picture though the words were backwards so I had to flip it with the menu so that it would read correctly to passersby through the window. Thankfully I could do this easily with the projector menu and so I didn't have to re-edit the photo.

My horses Christmas photo projected in my window.

I love this kit! It is wonderful for the holidays. I can't wait to use this for Halloween too! There are so many spooky/scary looking scenes to choose from in this kit.

The Easter Story Egg: Colorful Nesting Toy with Resurrection Book Review

I received this free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

Star Kids Company was created by momprenuer, Natalie Ard, in 2014. She is a wife and mom to 3 kids. The first product she created was Star from Afar, a wooden game counting down to Christmas, then other products were born...including The Easter Story Egg. These children's toys and gifts help bring meaning to play. These also build good character and values.

The Easter Story Egg is a great tradition that is done with family around Easter time. It consists of 7 wooden eggs that nest within each other and a hardcover book. The Story Egg book begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday. Each egg has a coinciding story that rhymes in the book and pertains to one of each of the seven days of Holy Week. This shares the story of Jesus' final days on Earth in a thoughtful and meaningful way to children as they open each egg and read the corresponding story. This can be done daily throughout Holy Week or all at once. You can choose.

The Story Egg Nesting Eggs include:
  • Palm Sunday (largest egg with a palm leaf painted on it)
  • House of Prayer Monday (next largest egg with a temple painted on it)
  • Teacher of Love Tuesday (next largest egg with a heart painted on it)
  • Give and Take Wednesday (next largest egg with a jar filled with perfume painted on it)
  • Last Supper Thursday (next largest egg with the Last Supper painted on it)
  • Good Friday (next to smallest egg with a cross painted on it, Jesus died on the cross for all our sins)
  • Holy Saturday (smallest egg that is painted grey like the stone rolled away of the tomb)
  • Easter Sunday (open the smallest egg to reveal emptiness, much like the tomb of Jesus because He is Risen!)

Zari with The Easter Story Egg Kit.

What We Thought:

The Story Egg is a ostrich size egg that opens up like a Russian nesting matryoshka doll. Each egg is panted with a different picture to help tell the true meaning of Easter throughout Holy Week. It comes with a lovely hardcover book with rhyming words and colorful pictures.

We received The Easter Story Egg and proceeded to try to open the egg to see all the littler eggs inside. I had major trouble getting the first egg open. I looked at their website and they have an instructional video on how to do this. They say not to twist, but to pull the egg apart. They made it look pretty simple. Zari and I had much difficulty with this and I had to get my husband to pry it open. The egg was very hard to grip and it was slippery. He tried to pull it apart like it said and he couldn't even do it...then he used a razor blade and went around the seam with it, then tried again. He rocked it slowly back and forth until it finally popped open. Some of the eggs inside were just as difficult to get open. I feel like if some wax was applied to each lip inside the seams then they would come apart much easier, but I do not think that with as much trouble we had, a small child could do this on their own. It says on their website that because the eggs are brand new, hand carved, and made of natural wood that still has some moisture they might be hard to open at first. We let them set out to dry for a few days while they were closed like they said to and after a few more times opening and shutting the eggs, they started loosening up.

The Easter Story Egg apart.

The book is a wonderful addition to The Story Egg. Zari loves reading the rhyming pages and looking at the pictures. It starts out with a poem about why we celebrate Easter and what the egg is for. Then it goes through and tells the story of Jesus' final days on Earth. At the end of every story it has a scripture from the Bible associated with it written in New International Version, NIV. The book is multicultural as well as it shows multiple skin tones throughout the book. It ends with the resurrection of Christ.

Resurrection book, showing how it is multicultural.

I love the idea of this product. I hope that the eggs loosen up after using more so that they can be enjoyed. I would love for this to become a tradition in my home for Holy Week. We like the idea of it counting down to Easter Sunday, much like an advent calendar does for Christmas. It seems like a wonderful way to help teach the true meaning of Easter in the home or at Sunday School. This would be a great addition to an Easter basket or as an Easter gift.

Precious Moments Frog Bird Feeder Review & 20% Off Garden Gifts

I received this garden decor free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

Precious Moments has some new Home and Garden products that would be great for gifts this summer! These include some lovely garden decorations that would be perfect for making your space or someone else's brighter and cheerier.

I received their new Frog Bird Feeder. This is made of resin, stands approximately 9 inches high, and is super cute! I love its adorable grin and wide eyes. It has a whimsical way it is holding a large lily pad leaf on its head to put bird seed in. The leaf bowl has an almost copper look to it. It is perfect to put on a patio or in a garden. I placed it beneath my Tulip Tree in my fairy rock garden. It looks right at home among the succulents, moss, violets and crystals. I filled it with bird seed and the next day the treat was all gone. The birds, chipmunks, and squirrels from my landscape must have liked their little taste. I love this bird feeder and I know you will too!

The whimsical Frog Bird Feeder from Precious Moments is wonderful for the garden or patio!

3DLIGHTFX My Little Pony Rainbow Dash 3D Deco Light Review

The 3DLIGHTFX 3D Deco Lights are a neat addition to any room. They come in iconic styles to help decorate the wall and emit a soft glow. You can find Marvel, WB, Nickelodeon, Cars/Jet, sports, Hasbro, Disney, Nature, Star Wars, and Universal themed 3D Deco Lights. Besides 3D Deco Lights they have 3D Minis, Lil Deco Lights, 3D Disc Lights coming soon to their night light products.

The Rainbow Dash 3D Deco Light is one of three My Little Pony styles that 3DLIGHTFX has. The other two are Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle. These are great for nurseries, rec rooms, kids' rooms, hallways, and Brony Caves. My Little Pony fans young and old alike will love these to help create a soft glow to any room.

Features for the 3DLIGHTFX My Little Pony 3D Deco Lights:
  • 100% official Hasbro My Little Pony merchandise.
  • Cordless, battery operated. (requires 3 AA batteries, not included)
  • Never gets hot to touch. Uses energy efficient LED Lights.
  • Looks great ON or OFF. Switch on the side is easily accessible.
  • Simple to install. Never have to change the bulbs. (includes screws, wall plugs, and wall sticker)
  • Great for nurseries, rec rooms, dens, kids' rooms, hallways, and Brony Caves.
  • Provides parents the necessary light for midnight changes, feedings, comforting check-ins and, of course, to keep boogie monsters away.

How To Install:

Our Thoughts:
It was tough to choose only one of the 3DLIGHTFX My Little Pony 3D Deco Lights as we think all of them are extremely cool looking. Although I wish they had all the mane-six characters or at least Fluttershy, my favorite MLP mane-six character from the Friendship Is Magic series. We finally chose Rainbow Dash (RD) because we love how colorful she is.

The Rainbow Dash 3D Deco Light came in a small box. We did not expect that the part that was 3D was only her head and that the sticker had her wings. We were hoping that the wings were 3D as well, but this was not well represented in the pictures online of the product. RD is not RD without her wings...so the sticker has to be used. If we decide later to move the light to a different location we are not sure that the sticker can be peeled off the wall and re-stuck. In retrospect we probably should have picked Twilight Sparkle because in the first seasons she never had wings or Pinkie Pie because she is an earth pony with neither wings nor horn and so this would not have mattered as much with them. However; we did notice that extra wall stickers are available from their partners to purchase on their website. We are just not sure how much they are to purchase because they do not say.

The Rainbow Dash 3D Deco Light was fairly easy to install and great looking on the wall too. We just cleaned the wall, installed the sticker, and mounted the light after placing the wall plugs and screws in the wall. It showed us exactly where to place the holes after placing the sticker, so it was all very easy. After installation, it looks like Rainbow Dash is popping straight through the wall. We love that the 3D Deco Lights are battery operated and don't have any unattractive chords running from it. When Rainbow Dash is turned on with a switch on the side she glows with a comforting ambience for 60 minutes straight or until the switch is put in the off position. After the 60 minutes she turns off automatically. In the day time we try to place her switch in the off position to conserve energy.

My whole family loves this night light! We recommend the 3DLIGHTFX 3D Deco Lights to everyone. It is a fairly unique gift that is sure to create a fun atmosphere in any room or hallway. I have my eyes on the new MLP 3D Minis from 3DLIGHTFX as well as the other MLP 3D Deco Lights and the new Nature butterfly ones too!

Give a Novica Gift for Christmas, Review and $35 Giveaway

I received a $35 gift card free from Novica to facilitate this review and the opportunity below to giveaway another $35 Gift Certificate. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

I received $35 to spend on Novica. I love the variety and eclectic feel to Novica. I sought out something unique to bring a welcoming knock to my farm house door. I purchased a Horse Door Knocker called 'Horse Arrival' which is made out of copper plated brass that has an antique look with a lacquer finish. It is so very perfect for welcoming guests into my home. This horse head door knocker is hand crafted by Khalid Ali, an artisan in India, and inspired by the ancient Mughal style. It even came with the iron screws to mount it. This door knocker gives an ambience of dignity and grace and also has a neat feel of the orient. At a little over a pound in weight, this has got some beef to it. I love the way it looks and hope it lasts a long long time out in the elements. I cannot wait to install it!

This brass door knocker 'Horse Arrival' can be found in decor accessory categories such as Animal Themed Decorative Hardware. Enjoy exploring these sections for other Novica treasures.

All Things Christmas And More Snowflake Icicle Lights and Assorted Candy Ornaments Review

I received these products free to facilitate this review.

All Things Christmas And More has been a family business for over 5 years now. They pride themselves on offering the best Christmas products around at an affordable price. They stock over 2,500 items year round and are expanding their catalog every year. This year they have added Halloween items and next year they are looking to expand and a carry a Spring and Summer Catalog.

I love snowflakes! Each one is so unique and beautiful. We don't get a lot of snow for Christmas in Rainier Oregon, where I live...just rain and lots of it! So, to deck the halls in and around my home I add the snow myself, so to speak. This year I ran across a very pretty Snowflake Icicle Light Set with Warm White Lights at All Things Christmas And More. I ordered these and they came in a box that said they were "Soft White" instead of "Warm White" lights. I really didn't mind except that these were not exactly what I ordered and All Things Christmas And More didn't seem to have any mention of the soft white ones on their website. Both of these have 70 M5 lights on the strand. They are also permanent L.E.D lamps so they: are cool to the touch, are long lasting (1 year limited warranty to the same store purchased from, 3 year guarantee from the creators: Holiday Creations, Inc.), and use up to 98% less electricity than incandescent lights. Each of these lights has a durable looking plastic snowflake shaped-cap that shouldn't fade, chip, or peel. The lights are waterproof, weather resistant and non-removable. If one bulb burns out the rest will remain lit because they are straight-line construction. They hang on a 22 gauge white wire strand that is approximately 7.5 feet long with vertical drops that alternate between 3, 5, and 6 bulbs per drop. Average power consumption is 0.071 watts/LED. It also has a fuse-protected stackable end-to-end connector that can be connected up to 210 watts per plug. UL approved. I can put these both indoors or outdoors and these are very pretty all lit up.

I had a little gift card money left over so I also got the Assorted Candy Ornaments. These come in a package of 6 ornaments. There are 2 round ones, 2 rectangular ones 2 oval ones. These are made of shatterproof plastic and are so adorable hanging with their silver string just about anywhere to make it more festive. They have sparkly glitter accents that make it look like they have been frosted with snow. I trimmed my little tree with these bright red beauties and they look so cheery. These are such a great price too at only $1.24 per pack.

Creekside Farms Apple Quince Wreath with Hanger Review

Apple Quince Wreath
I received these products for free to facilitate this review.

Creekside Farms hand makes artisanal wreaths with freshly hand picked and naturally air dried herbs and flowers. They are located in California's Monterey County where the climate is warm and dry which is ideal growing and drying conditions for their herbs and flowers. They are also grown naturally without harmful pesticides and dried in small bunches upside-down on wire racks in their warehouse. Once they are ready, the ornamental and culinary herbs and flowers are used in their lovely wreath designs. Creekside Farms has wreaths for all sorts of occasions like weddings, baby showers, fall, and Christmas. They also have some wonderful smelling culinary and ornamental herb wreaths to brighten up anyone's kitchen or home.

Apple Quince Wreath fresh from the box.

The wreath arrived zip tied to the inside of the box it came in. The hanger was wrapped in a bag zip tied to one side on the inside of the box nestled beside the wreath. The zip ties were a bit annoying to get off of them, but I realize it probably was the best way to attach them so that they wouldn't move around much inside the box while being shipped. It also comes with a card that has information about Creekside Farms on one side and care instructions on the other. When I opened the box the wonderful fragrance of the wreath emanated into the room.

I am very glad they sent me a metal wreath hanger with my wreath. It is very handy to have so that I could hang the wreath from my doors. Once I freed the wreath and hanger from the box I selected one of my hallway doors to hang it from. Some of my doors won't hold it, however; because they have a tight seal and won't close while the hanger is over the top. So when purchasing a wreath with a wreath hanger make sure the door you will be hanging it from will take a wreath hanger. If you don't want to hang it from a door it can also be hung by other ways on a wall or over a mantel.

I received the Apple Quince Wreath with hanger to review for free. I got to pick it from an assortment of gorgeous looking wreaths from the Creekside Farms website. I wanted a harvest wreath that would go well with my farm home style. It was hard to choose just one wreath as I thought they all were very pretty. Since their Fall Wreaths are in season now I thought that the Apple Quince Wreath would be a festive decoration to deck my halls for autumn harvest and Thanksgiving. This particular wreath is made with fresh Eucalyptus, Salal, and Juniper and decorated with Quince slices, pine cones, Tallow berries, faux apples, Curly Willow, Artemisia, Sweet Annie, and cinnamon sticks. The one I recieved didn't quite look as neatly made as the pictured one from their website, but it was still very beautiful. I love the circle of green with the browns, oranges and reds peaking through. The bright orange quince slices and cheery red faux apples really stands out among the other foliage. The wreath looks very nice where I placed it and every time I go past I love taking in a big whiff of the lovely aromatic smell.

You can purchase this and other lovely wreaths from the Creekside Farms website. Get a 15% discount when you use the code ABEL.

You can also follow Creekside Farms on Facebook and Twitter.

LivingPlug Energy Efficient INLET with Faceplate Review

This review is sponsored by LivingPlug. This post contains affiliate links which means I may receive a commission if you click a link and make a purchase. Thank you for supporting my blog!

INLET is San Francisco-based LivingPlug's multi-use, energy efficient and child-proof outlet and USB source. The INLET comes with a screw to attach it to the outlet and has tamper-resistant outlets so it is safer. It turns a standard outlet into three receptacles plus a 2.1 USB charger and features the “UNplug button” which shuts off power and eliminates the need to physically UNplug devices from the outlet, thus reducing “Vampire Charges” caused when electronics suck power even when turned off. LivingPlug estimates consumers can reduce their electrical bill 15-25% by using the “UNplug” button. What a great way to take a bite out of utility bills!

Besides being very functional and practical their INLET is also decorative. Outlets are in every room and they don't have to be boring. You can make them fabulous looking with INLET faceplates and enhance the aesthetics of your home. Faceplates cover the outside of the INLET to match your home decor. LivingPlug has hundreds of designs that you can pick from ranging from nature scenes, graphic prints, noted artists, inspirational quotes, holiday and seasonal, as well as a line of children's inspired looks. You can choose from several Halloween-inspired designs like: a Happy Pumpkin, Silly Ghost, Haunted House, Black Cat, and variety of fall scenes to decorate before the first Trick-or-Treaters arrive. Additionally, the company offers a line of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other holiday season designs. LivingPlug also offers an option to create a customized faceplate for you as well: upload a personal photo, school mascot, favorite quote, or child's artwork, etc. for them to make you a unique design. These faceplates are a duplex electric outlet cover, printed domestically on an ABS faceplate. The Faceplate is super easy to place onto the INLET, just slide the ABS formed brackets that are on the back of the frame onto the INLET front chrome pins. You can interchange these faceplates with one another so you can change the decor of your home with the seasons, holidays, or your mood.

From left to right: The front of the INLET and back of the faceplate, The back of the INLET and front of the Pin Oak faceplate.

I received an INLET with a Pin Oak faceplate. This design is by Seymour Leichman and Riverside Park illustrations and is of a lovely tree. I love this design because it fits with my love of nature and goes with the fall and autumn season well.

LivingPlug INLET with Pin Oak Faceplate. Coffee maker and reader plugged into it.

There are a few problems some outlets and plugs have using the INLET. The INLET only plugs into a three prong outlet. Unfortunately, if you have an older home with two prong outlets you will not be able to use the INLET. Also, if your three prong outlets are installed in an incorrect orientation (upside down or sideways) you will have issues using the INLET with the faceplate unless you choose a faceplate that can be oriented upside down or sideways also and still look the normal (there are actually quite a few to choose from like this). The faceplate can be put on the INLET "wrong" so that it plugs into an upside down outlet and be right side up, but then the faceplate covers the INLET outlets so you cannot plug anything in. There is a lip on the faceplate that even when put on correctly still won't let larger plugs plug into the INLET outlets. You could plug these bulkier plugs into the bottom without the faceplate on, but then the INLET is very plain and you still might not be able to use all three outlets at once because of the close proximity of the three plugs.

Problems some outlets and plugs have using the INLET.

I believe LivingPlug INLET is a revolutionary product when used with the proper outlets and plugs. It is ideal for people that want to upgrade their 3 prong outlets into something more: functional, practical, beautiful, and safe. The LivingPlug INLET, by itself or with the faceplate, would make a great gift for someone as well.

The LivingPlug INLET is super affordable. It retails for $25 and each faceplate is sold separately from the INLET and other LivingPlug base products for an additional $25. To learn more about the INLET and faceplate designs or to purchase, please visit LivingPlug.

Tatutina Wooden Letters Review and Giveaway

Tatutina is a wonderful online store with unique products that are all very colorful and happy. Most of their products are hand painted and all of them that are, use paint that is certified non-toxic and lead free. They now can also personalize by hand painting a name in their own Tatutina style. They have such a fun and funky way of painting their designs! I fell in love with the colors and bright patterns.

We were asked to review their wooden letters and so I got to pick a name or word to have the wooden letters spell. My girls want an enchanted forest, woodland themed room. I picked the word ENCHANTED for the girls room because it basically encompasses the feel they want their room to have. I also chose pastel colors and mostly floral, rainbow/stripe, and hearts...with the occasional polka-dot.

Tatutina Pastel Wooden Letters: ENCHANTED

I picked these letters:
Wooden Letter E - Pastel Green w/Dots
Wooden Letter N - Pastel Pink w/Dots
Wooden Letter C - Pastel Rainbow
Wooden Letter H - Pastel Pink w/Heart
Wooden Letter A - Pastel Pink w/Flower
Wooden Letter N - Pastel Pink w/Stripes
Wooden Letter T - Pastel Pink w/Flower
Wooden Letter E - Pastel Pink w/Hearts
Wooden Letter D - Pastel Orange w/Heart

The letters you can pick from on Tatutina's website are painted in either pastel or bright colors. They are approximately 7" tall, with keyhole mount on the back for easy hanging. They are not heavy because they are hollow inside.

The wooden letters came all in one box and were individually wrapped. The box was fairly heavy, but held all the letters without leaving too much room for movement which is great so they wouldn't get broken in shipment. All of the letters arrived safe and sound to me.

I hung them all easily with thumbtacks above the girls window in their room. I didn't even have to get out any tools or hardware. I love how simple they were to put up and how they look in the room. These are a wonderful room decoration!

Biblical Names of Christ Heirloom Ornaments Review

We received product free from Deseret Book and Zions Mercantile to facilitate this review.

The Biblical Names of Christ Heirloom Ornaments are a wonderful reminder of what the true meaning of Christmas is all about. These Christ-centered holiday ornaments are great to display on a tree, as gift tags, or adorning a wreath on the front door. Each star has a one of the sacred biblical names of the Savior across it and comes nestled in a box of shredded brown paper with a viewing window to see them through the lid. On the back of the box they come in, a scripture reference accompanies each name. Since there are 12 of these they are perfect for a "Twelve Days of Christmas" countdown. Jesus is the reason for the season. Ornament size: 3¼" x 3¼". *Hooks & twine NOT included.

These decorations are made of tin-like metal and have a rustic antique pewter finish to them. They won't break if dropped by little ones, but the holes at the top are fragile if bent too much and I could see them breaking off if mishandled. We also would have loved the name on one side and the scripture reference on the other, not just the reference on the box.

We love to reflect this time of year about the birth of Jesus and love to have something to display that helps us do so. These stars are a great scripture reference tool and they can be incorporated well with Family Home Evening or family devotionals. I had my kids hang each one on our tree while I read the scripture to the one they were hanging. Then we had a discussion about them. It was a great family experience.

Included are:
  • Lamb of God - John 1:29
  • Emmanuel - Matthew 1:23
  • Bread of Life - John 6:35
  • The Light - John 8:12
  • Lord of Lords - Revelation 17:14
  • Redeemer - Job 19:25
  • King of Israel - John 12:13
  • Shepherd - John 10:11
  • Prince of Peace - Isaiah 9:6
  • Mediator - 1 Timothy 2:5
  • Living Water - John 4:10
  • King of Kings - Revelation 17:14

BlaBla Mermaid Dream Ring Review

BlaBla Kids do fair trade with Peruvian artisans who hand knit their designs. They sent me a Mermaid Dream Ring to review for free. The Mermaid Dream Ring is one of my favorite knitted pieces in their collection. It is made of 100% cotton. These Dream Rings are fairly new in their store and beautiful! I love the ocean and when my older kids had a nursery I would decorate their baby room with dolphins and ocean related things. Since I am expecting a new baby in October I thought the Mermaid Dream Ring would be perfect for the baby's nursery. It is a mobile that you can hang anywhere you please. I think it would look great either over the baby's bassinet, on the wall or in a window. It makes a great baby shower gift or even a gift for older kids. These remind me of dream catchers, a hand made hoop with a woven web or net that was first made by the Ojibwa (Chippewa) Native Americans to hang above their children's beds to capture nightmares. I think that the Blabla Kids Dream Ring's colorful and gorgeous craftsmanship would delight baby for hours and is a lovely reminder of sweet dreams.

Planning a Fancy Nancy Tea Party

From the day we learned about Fancy Nancy we have been fans. Especially my youngest, Teela, who loves to dress up and have tea parties with her little friends and her dollies. Teela is two now. She loves the Fancy Nancy series of books. My boys would blush if I told you, but they love to read them to Teela.

Anyway, I am here to tell you some tips on how to have a wonderful Fancy Nancy Tea Party.

1. Dress up is a must! Have a box of fancy clothes such as tutus, boas, crowns, tiaras, wands, etc. that the girls can dress up with. Candy necklaces and bracelets are great party favors and so fashionable!
2. Make name place cards that rhyme. Like: Dandy Mandy or Tutu Sue. Although, Teela's name would be a tricky one. (Let me know if you can think of one for her.) You could decorate them with glitter, small beads, lace, ribbon, or other notions.
3. Make a creative cake or cookies. It could be in the shape of a castle, crown, or Fancy Nancy herself :)
4. Decorate the place to be fit for a queen...or princess :) Use all kinds of boas and streamers, balloons, etc. to make the party posh!
5. Have the guests decorate their own cookies. Icing, sprinkles, etc. will make the cookies sparkle.
6. Have a tea party...with juice and the cookies they have decorated.
7. Paint nails. Piggy Paint is great!
8. HarperCollins Fancy Nancy printables and party recipes on their website you can use. Their fun and games also has some printables that are great.
9. Read the books and make up role playing to go along with it.
10. Make your own fancy hats or crowns. There are a lot of neat ideas out there.

Easter Egg Decorating

I love decorating Easter eggs and decorating with them as well. In 2002 I was pregnant with my second child, Jaedan, (this picture was taken less than two months away from birthing him) and I was apparently breathing in too much Springtime air and in a fashion statement mood, LOL! So there you have it...the prego plastic egg princess :)

There are many fun ways to decorate Easter eggs and also to decorate with them. The Easter egg is used to celebrate Easter or Springtime. The Egg is widely used as a symbol of the start of new life, just as new life emerges from an egg when the baby chick hatches out. In Christianity it is the symbol of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

EASTER EGG TIPS:
Try dyeing or decorating different types of eggs in order to vary the sizes (quail for smaller and goose for larger). Also consider dyeing brown eggs to alter the range of colors you can produce.

To empty a raw egg, begin by using the tip of a sharp utility knife or a hat pin to pierce both ends of the egg; turn the knife or hat pin in one of the holes to widen it slightly. Then, poke a straightened paper clip or the hat pin through the larger hole to pierce and "stir" the yolk. Hold the egg, larger hole down, over a bowl, and then blow the contents out with a rubber ear/nose syringe (available at drugstores).

Safety
1. Color only uncracked eggs.
2. Discard hard-boiled eggs that have been out of the refrigerator for more than two hours.
3. Hard-boiled eggs should be consumed within one week.

Here are some great ways to decorate eggs and decorate with Easter eggs this Easter season.

THINGS TO USE TO EMBELLISH YOUR EGG OR EGGSHELL:
Scrapbook Notion Eggs (Put on stickers, hole punch shapes, postage stamps, scrapbook paper, construction paper, tissue paper, crepe paper, gift-wrap paper, foil, confetti or other scrapbook embellishments.)
Sewing Notion Eggs (Glue on ribbons, cloth flowers, braid, rickrack, cording, pom poms, lace, netting, fabric, felt, fake fur, leather, bits of broken costume jewelry, small silk flowers and leaves, buttons, or other sewing embellishments.)
Craft Notion Eggs (Glue on sequins, glitter, beads, yarn, raffia, pipe cleaners, cotton balls or other craft embellishments.)
Natural Notion Eggs (Glue on small dried pasta, beans, rice, lentils, small pebbles, small sea shells, feathers, pieces of potpourri or dried flowers/leaves, or other natural embellishments.)

USING PAPER:
Decoupage Eggs, Washi Eggs, Crepe Paper or Tissue Paper Eggs
Papier-Mache Eggs

PAINTED OR DYED EGGS: Note: Do NOT eat eggs that have been painted or dyed with unnatural substances!
(For paint use glitter glue, glitter paints, acrylic paints (pearlized is my favorite), puff paints, nail polish, markers, undiluted food coloring, etc.)
Stenciled Eggs (use a stencil to trace designs onto the eggshell with paint)

Dyeing Eggs:
(For dye use PAAS Easter egg dye or other commercial egg dye, food coloring dye, or all-natural dye.)

Tips For Dyeing Eggs (Gently lower and raise the egg on a soup spoon or tongs into the cups or dishes with dye, to avoid cracking. The longer these are left in the dye the deeper and darker the color. You can dip the egg again in a second color to experiment with different color combinations.

Food Coloring Dye (Combine 1/2 to 1 Tablespoon of food coloring with 2 tsp. vinegar in a cup that is deep enough for the eggs. Add water to about the half way point. Gently place the eggs into the cups. When you remove the egg from the dye, pat dry with a paper towel and place in a holder.)

All-Natural Egg Dyeing (Use the color chart below to create all natural egg dye. Combine the dye source with 1/2 Tablespoon of vinegar with some cold water in a saucepan. Add raw eggs (make sure there's enough water to cover the eggs) and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer 10 to 15 minutes. The longer you simmer, the darker the color will be, but simmer at least 10 minutes so that the eggs cook thoroughly.)
Natural Egg Dye Color Chart
Pinkish to Red - Beets, Cranberries, Red Grape Juice, Cranberry Juice, Raspberries, Cherries, Pomegranate Juice
Orange - Yellow Onion Skins, Chili Powder or Paprika (for a brownish/red orange), Cooked Carrots
Yellow - Green Tea, Chamomile Tea, Turmeric, Orange or Lemon Peel, Carrot Tops, Cumin, Celery Seed, Saffron
Yellow Green - Yellow Delicious Apple Peels
Green - Spinach Leaves, Red Onion Skins and Vinegar (olive green)
Blue - Blueberries (more grey blue), Red Cabbage
Purple - Red Onion Skins
Violet - Violet Blossoms, Small Quantity of Red/Purple Onion Skins, Hibiscus Tea, Red Wine, Red Zinger Tea
Golden Brown - Dill Seeds
Brown - Strong Coffee, Instant Coffee, Black Walnut Shells, Black Tea

Unique Dyeing Techniques
Two-Toned Eggs (Dip top half of egg in 1 color and the bottom half in another. Or, dip each half of the egg in the dye for different lengths of time, creating different shades of the same color.)
"Tie-Dyed" Eggs (Method # 1: Use 100% silk. You can use an old silk tie as long as you want to cut it up...just make sure it's not your husband's favorite before you do. Go HERE to get the tutorial. Method # 2: Place several eggs in a colander in the kitchen sink. Splash eggs with vinegar. Drip yellow food color onto eggs. Gently shake the colander for a few seconds to help the color spread. Let set for 30 seconds. Repeat with 1 or 2 additional food colors. Let set again for 30 seconds after each color added and lightly rinse eggs with water. Drain completely. Allow eggs to dry. Method # 3: Dip egg briefly into dye to lightly color; let dry. Cover sections of egg with pieces of tape. Press down edges with fingernail to be sure tape adheres. Dip in second color dye; let dry. If you would like a third color, leave on tape but add smaller pieces. Dip in contrasting color. Dry and carefully remove tape.)
Marbleized Eggs (Use the enamel paint way or in a mug or jar large enough to contain one egg, place 1 Tablespoon of cooking oil, 1 Tablespoon of vinegar and 1 Tablespoon of food coloring. Add enough water to cover egg, swirl quickly with a spoon and quickly lower into and raise egg out of liquid. Pat dry with paper towel.)
Lacey Eggs (Wrap a piece of lace or doily you don't want to keep around the egg and secure with a ribber band or twist tie then dip egg in the dye.)
Speckled Eggs (For natural looking speckled eggs use light blue dipped eggs and brown tea stained eggs. Then use one bottle of brown craft paint and a toothbrush. Dip brush into paint and lightly splatter and dab around the egg to achieve a random, lightly dotted pattern. Allow to dry.)

TOOLS TO USE FOR APPLYING PAINT TO YOUR EGGS:
paintbrushes of different sizes and widths (You can create a number of cool strokes with these including dry brushing to make crosshatch patterns, zigzags, stippling, etc. You can also just use to paint pictures or stencil the paint onto egg.)
sea sponges (Use for that sponged look.)
cotton swabs (Good for painting applications quickly within a stenciled area or making dots with paint.)
toothpicks (Use for thin lines and detail.)
pencil erasers (Put a dab of paint on pencil eraser to make dots)

RESIST DYEING:
Pysanky Eggs (Very fancy wax resist eggs. A Ukrainian tradition.)
Silhouette Eggs (put leaves, herbs, and flowers against the eggshell and secure by wrapping it with some old pantyhose before dipping into dye. You can also make shapes out of masking tape or adhesive vinyl film with scrapbook hole/shape punches, stickers, or reinforcement stickers and place them on the eggshell before it goes into the dye.)
Banded Eggs (Put rubber bands or strips of masking tape of different widths on the eggs before they go into the dye to create that striped, checked or plaid look.)
Waxed Eggs (Write on the egg with crayon (crayola is best) or drip hot wax onto the eggshell in different areas and let harden before putting it in the dye. A stylus can also be used for creating more intricate patterns. This tool looks much like a pen, but has a barrel at the end for holding and dispensing wax. Heat the barrel of an empty stylus by holding it near a lighted candle. Scrape the beeswax patty to fill the stylus with wax, then heat the barrel again in the flame. Touch the tip of the stylus to the egg to let the wax come out and draw your design. Heat and refill the tool as necessary. Make line drawings, or fill in areas if you wish. Let wax dry, then submerge egg completely in dye. Remove egg; let dry, about 10 minutes. To remove the wax place the eggs on aluminum foil on a baking sheet with rims in an oven preheated to 250 degrees; this works for blown-out and hard-boiled eggs. When wax starts to melt, about 10 minutes, it will glisten and shine; remove eggs from oven, and hold in a paper towel wiping off the wax.)

OTHER THINGS:
Crayoned Eggs (Boil the eggs in a mixture of water and vinegar (about 1 1/2 tablespoons of vinegar for every cup of water) for 10 minutes, then turn off the heat. Carefully remove a hot egg (parents only) and let it cool for about 10 minutes. (Leave the others in the water until you're almost ready to decorate them, so they stay warm.) Holding the egg on a paper towel, draw on the shell with the crayons. To avoid smudging your design when turning the egg, carefully lift it from the paper towel, turn it, then set it back down. Let the design set for about 30 minutes.)
Millefiori Eggs (Wooden eggs with a layer of polymer clay cane slices all around it.)
Mosaic Eggshell Art (use dyed crushed Easter eggshells to make mosaics on paper)
Eggshell Planters
Eggshell Votives
Egg Animals (Decorate your eggs with googly eyes, paper, felt, feathers, fake fur, pipe cleaners, etc. to make them look like critters.)
Felted Easter Eggs (These are made of felted wool and wooden eggs.)
Fabric Eggs (Made of fabric.)
Knitted Eggs
Beaded Plastic Eggs (Use translucent multicolored plastic beads and hot glue to plastic eggs.)
Thread Eggs (Wrap embroidery floss soaked in starch over small oval balloons and let dry.)
Carved Eggs
Chocolate Filled Eggs
Robin's-Egg Place Card Eggs
Sugar Easter Eggs
Egg Ornaments (Blown out eggs are fragile but can last a long time if properly handled. They can be hung on a tree or branches cut from a flowering tree put in a vase and brought inside as decorations. Just attach a loop of ribbon or some yarn to the top with some glue to hang.)
Egg Garland
Sliceform Paper Egg
