My Experience With Inner Peace #PrinceofPeace

My church, The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, is inviting everyone to find peace during Holy Week and Easter by following the Prince of Peace and his example. MY PERSONAL STORY OF INNER PEACE

When I was pregnant with my third child, Tatiana, my family of 4, almost 5, was struggling with finances while we were living in Winchester Bay Oregon. We had moved into a little trailer on the same property as The Rusty Frog, a store that sold frog trinkets, chainsaw carvings, etc. We had been promised by our landlord when we moved in that we would be able to put my husband, Brian's, Shopbot, computer controlled router, in one of the back rooms so that we could make our living making wooden things that were carved. This never came into fruition and we were faced with a hard decision. To move somewhere else and sell Brian's Shopbot and other things or stay and try to make the best of things. My daughter was born, we were having trouble paying the bills and our semi-new Honda Civic had been repossessed.

About that same time we got an invitation to Brian's sister's wedding at Walt Disney World in Florida. We placed our trust and faith in our Lord and prayed about our situation. The spirit gave us the feeling to drop everything, go to the wedding, and move to Florida. So that is what we did. We sold off as much as we could, put the rest of our stuff in storage at a friend's place, and bought plane tickets to Orlando bringing only what we thought we needed as essentials.

When we got there we rented a vehicle for a few days, got settled in a hotel, bought two bicycles and a bike trailer that seated our two small boys, and season passes for the whole family for Sea World. The wedding was beautiful and I am so glad we got to make it there to be a part of it. After the wedding was over we lived in Orlando for several years, we got on government assistance until Brian found a job and we moved into a condominium down the street from the Mall and Grocery Store.

Until we got a car, we would bike all over Orlando to get groceries, go to medical appointments, and all the way to Sea World as a family. I would have Tatiana in a baby carrier with a sunhat and sunscreen while I biked with the two boys in the covered bike trailer that doubled as a stroller. Sometimes we would also take the city bus. It was great getting out of the house and hanging out with dolphins all weekend and the kids loved it.

While in Orlando my daughter, Tatiana, was diagnosed with a brain tumor (Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma) stemming from her optic nerve and engulfing her pituitary and carotid artery. We were very fortunate to be in Orlando when she was diagnosed because we received exceptional medical care for her and had the best brain surgeon, Dr. Eric Trumble. We were definitely in the right place at the right time. We hoped and prayed that things would go well with the surgery and for Him to guide the surgeon's capable hands.

When she was operated on to resect the tumor she was only 6 months old. We were told that worst case she might not regain her sight and that she might only live a year because it had metastasized to the brain lining. Dr. Trumble assured us though that he had gotten the majority of the tumor out and cut the blood supply to it without severing the optic nerves. We had faith in the Lord that everything would be fine.

Tatiana's life was riddled with multiple medical problems and hospital visits/stays. She had seizures, total blindness, cerebral palsy, and numerous endocrine issues. This, however, did not dampen her sweet spirit. She was a gorgeous little girl with a head full of red curly locks and bright blue eyes. She loved hugs and blowing kisses to anyone she met. Even getting poked with needles and prodded by nurses didn't get her down. She would always make me smile. She was the happiest, most loving child we have ever met and we love her so much!

Our beautiful Tatiana lived for 6 whole years! We attribute her longer life to faith, a lot of prayer, Dr. Trumble, and a special healing device we called the light box, a precursor to FLO De-stressing Technology, that we took her to. She never had to go through radiation therapy or chemotherapy and the tumor never grew back. She passed away suddenly because of lobar pneumonia. Here is the post I wrote of her passing.

We are so glad to have had her in our lives and that she got to be a part of our family. We miss her dearly, but we know she is in heaven and we will meet her there someday. I am so grateful for Christ and our Heavenly Father and the blessings they have given my family. Knowing that families are forever and that the Lord is always there for us even in times of trial and hardship brings my family and I inner peace.

For the Worldwide Day of Service people were given the opportunity to "serve anyone you want, any way you want" and "find a way to serve others as Jesus did". Just like this Christ-like day, each day following in the advent calendar has a theme and follows with suggestions of different ways you can get involved with small, but meaningful acts of service.

Our Thoughts:
Defenders of the Family is a fun hardcover comic book/graphic novel written by Benjamin Hyrum White and illustrated by Jay Fontano. This 32 page book shows children and adults alike how to be defenders of the family and stand up for what we as Christian LDS members believe in. I see this book as a simplified version of "The Family: A Proclamation to the World". It also reminds me of a General Conference talk by Bonnie L. Oscarson where she encouraged Latter-day Saint woman to defend marriage, the divine roles of parents, and the sanctity of the home. This book goes into our foundational beliefs surrounding the family and what we should be doing to protect and strengthen this sacred entity.

We enjoyed the fun colorful illustrations. I loved how the defenders wore capes like superheroes and that there were a number of different races and family dynamics shown. Teela, my eight year old daughter, had no trouble at all in reading this book herself and the words get straight to the point.

I highly recommend this book that shows individuals how to be "Defenders of the Family". We all need this book, especially at this time when it seems that the family unit is only being ridiculed or ripped apart.

“The Sacrament Is For Me” Summary:

Our Thoughts:
The Sacrament Is For Me is an adorable hardcover book that teaches small children the importance of this symbolic ordinance. It is written by Jessica B. Ellingson and Illustrated by Chase Jensen with 32 pages. I love how the text is in rhyme and the illustrations are relatable. The picture of the boy pulling his sisters hair with the wheel of his toy car was funny, but I can empathize, being a parent. This book goes through and tells why we take the sacred sacrament, what the water and bread represent and should remind us of, how we should act during the prayers and partaking of the sacrament, and what other things we should do to follow Jesus Christ to receive blessings. Besides taking the sacrament, it talks briefly also about the importance of reverence, the temple, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, remembering Jesus, sharing the gospel, being like Jesus, loving others, serving others, following the promptings of the Holy Ghost, and choosing the right.

The last couple Sundays Zari, my youngest, has had trouble sitting still in Sacrament Meeting. I finally brought The Sacrament Is For Me book with us and Zari stopped being so fidgety. Instead she quietly looked at the pages of this book while the sacrament was being passed. This book would also be great to use with Primary or Family Home Evening lessons that focus around the sacrament. I highly recommend The Sacrament Is For Me.

Jesus's love for all mankind, especially children shows in this book for youngsters. The illustrations are colorful, fun, and cartoon like to hold the attention of little ones. My daughter Zari loved this book. Her sister Teela read it to her and looked at the pictures with her. This book is a great sturdy book for little hands to introduce or reinforce the concept of Jesus's visit to the Americas and His love for all.

“The Holy Ghost” Summary:
Get to know the Holy Ghost, from baptism on! This engaging book provides fill-in-the-blank stories, coloring pages, and other fun activities for your kids to help get them ready to receive the Holy Ghost and rely on Him for the rest of their lives. Come to understand and feel the Spirit, one of the greatest gifts from God.

Our Thoughts:
The Holy Ghost: Discovering Your Extraordinary New Gift I thought that the coming of this soft cover book was very timely as my daughter Teela had turned 8 and gotten baptized last April. The Holy Ghost: Discovering Your Extraordinary New Gift is a wonderful activity 80 page book with fill-in-the-blanks, coloring pages, word searches, dot-to-dots, mazes, games, crack the code, crosswords, and many other fun filled pages. Answer keys are upside down on the pages that needs them and there are also some in the back of the book. This book teaches children the difference between the power and gift of the Holy Ghost. It also answers the questions of who the Holy Ghost is & how the Holy Ghost guides, comforts, warns and protects, testifies and teaches, and sanctifies teaching also how to use the gift. I think that this book is perfect for the child that just got baptized.

FamilySearch's Worldwide Indexing Event #TheWorldsRecords

From July 15-17, FamilySearch International is sponsoring their third annual “Worldwide Indexing Event,” in which they will be trying to bring 72,000 people from around the globe together online during a 72-hour event to save the world’s records by making them searchable to the public.

During the 72-hour indexing period, you can become a volunteer and participate by downloading the FamilySearch software and completing as many names as you would like for your genealogy records. Anyone with a computer and internet connection can join.

My father loves doing our genealogy. He has entered many names and their information in FamilySearch. He has also helped update crucial information and records when things have mistakes or are duplicates. He holds a Genealogy Mission in the church and helps many people with their records as well. I know he is doing the Lord's work in doing this.

My Preparedness Calling

Brian and I have a new shared calling in our church. We have been wanting to do this ever since we were first married, but I guess the Lord had different plans for us then. We have been given the preparedness calling of the church. We can have an open curriculum. My husband and I are gearing up for teaching classes, disseminating helpful information, and planning ways to get our ward members more involved in the community to get people more prepared in case of any emergency that comes our way.

My church, The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints (LDS/Mormon Church), have been very vocal about how being prepared is so very important. We as members of the LDS church have been counseled to have a year's supply of food supply and life's necessities for every family member, just in case. On May 21st of this year, before we were called to this calling, there was a Preparedness Fair at our church. I attended, but didn't demo anything because I wanted to see what would be offered and be a student instead. We were taught about Canning Beans & Potatoes, Smoking Meats, Food Storage, Preserving/Sprouting Foods; Water Filtering, Storing, & Alternative Sources; Ham Radio, Alternative Heating Sources, Sanitation, Fires & Alternative Ways to Start Them, Alternative Methods and Sources for Cooking, Sources and Storage for Fuel. They also had displays for a 72-Hour and Basic First Aid Kit. I hoped that we would have had more come from the community, non-members and members alike, but we still had a good turnout. I brought home a packet of information and some notes I wrote. These were helpful demonstrations for the novice beginner and even I learned some things while I was there.

Our background: 
Brian and I are both Master Gardeners. We have been to Soil School taught by Oregon State University (OSU) and other mini courses taught by the local extension service. I have also taken a course in Permaculture, sustainable landscape design also taught by OSU. I am currently in study about wilderness foraging, organic gardening, cool season gardening, gardening year round, companion crops, herbal/natural medicine, etc. I have been volunteering at the Rainier Oregon Community Garden, Hope Gardens, to give food back to those that are in need of it. Brian is learning about aquaponics, a system where you raise fish or other aquaculture (aquatic animals) and the waste produced by them supplies nutrients for plants grown hydroponically (in water) that in turn purify the water. We are placing a aquaponics system at our farm. We are also preparing our farm to be more self-sufficient as well so we can showcase ways of doing so. Everyday MOMents: Discovering Christ in the Details of Motherhood Book Review #MyEverydayMOMents

Every mother has felt exhausted, overwhelmed, discouraged, unimportant, and unappreciated at some point in their mothering career. As mothers, some days feel like they are mundane and repetitious. Sometimes we end up feeling like train wrecks at the end of the day. It is hard to feel close to Christ when we get so lost in going about our daily responsibilities that we lose sight of our spiritual importance. Believe me, I have been there!

I am a mother of 4 children currently. I had a daughter, Tatiana, who was disabled and medically fragile. She was our little miracle child and we were lucky to have her as long as we did (for 6 years) because she was only given a year. She was so happy all the time, but in and out of the hospital so much. While she was alive she reminded me everyday that Heavenly Father had tremendously blessed my family and when she passed away I felt my heart was being ripped apart. I had two to three other children while she was alive and even though days were difficult and demanding I still made it through it all. I know now that I couldn't have done it at all without my faith in Christ and my daughter's smile. Throughout all of my family's many trials, tribulations, and everyday moments we try to stay strong and "Hold to the Rod"*. Together we have made it through a lot and I know that even though there might be rough times ahead, together, with our faith in Christ, we can move mountains. He has always been there for me through thick and thin, guiding me by the Holy Spirit and she was the one that reminded me to think of Him always. She was my spiritual eyes, ever so innocent and in tune. I miss this connection that I had with Christ. As my children grow older I feel the need to have more guidance from the Holy Spirit than ever before.

In the book Everyday MOMents the author, Jessica Poe, sets out to help "any mothering hearts who seek to come closer to Christ" by discovering Christ in the details of motherhood. Everyday MOMents is an inspiring and uplifting book that shows us that even in the monotonous days we can become closer to Christ by gaining a spiritual perspective for all things no matter how small or large. We should always look for Christ in everything so that we think of Him always and feel His enlightened presence beside us. In this we will gain a better understanding of our sacred duties as mothers and be more receptive to the Spirit so that we can act on the messages He sends us, feeling ever closer to Christ.

I am glad I came across Everyday MOMents. I love that Jessica Poe has given us her own life lessons to ponder in this book. After each chapter there are things to reflect upon and apply to our own lives. It has reminded me that my duties as a mother are important, worthwhile, and filled with Christ. Chapter 6 is all about Tuning Out to Tune In. I have become more aware recently of my tech habits and how much I am physically and mentally attached to my computer. I have been trying to work on having a family day where we all tune out technology to tune in each other. This is HUGE for my family because we seem to have gotten out of having Family Home Evening now that my oldest is a teen and I feel we need to become more connected with each other again. Besides this little gem, Jessica has so many other great stories, suggestions, insights, and inspirations in this book that will help you and your family gain a more Christlike existence.

I would recommend this book to all mothers or soon to be mothers. It would be a great gift for someone on Mother's Day.

I realize that not all of my readers are of my faith (LDS/Mormon), but regardless of that a lot of you are of Christian faith, the same as me. Yes, the LDS/Mormon church believes in Christ and we base our teachings on Him. This is the reason my church's full name is The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. We, as Christians believe in Jesus Christ and that we are all sons and daughters of God. This realization is given to us in Biblical truths and scripture. We are shown in the Bible that we are both literal spirit children of our Heavenly Father because he created us & also sons and daughters of God because of having faith in Him and being born again through the atonement of Christ. In the book A Princess Story: The Real-Life Fairy Tale Found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Jaci Wightman we are enlightened even further of this concept.

A Princess Story: The Real-Life Fairy Tale Found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Jaci Wightman is a wonderful book for girls that shows them their divine potential. It sets the foundation for helping them recognize the princess within and parallels the fairytale princess stories that we have all grown up hearing, with God's plan for us. I love that this book has many scriptural references from both the Bible and Book of Mormon, teachings from the leaders of the Church, and "Additional Study" at the end of most chapters to back up these important concepts. I believe that this book is perfect for older Primary aged girls, Young Women (aged 12-17), mothers of daughters in the LDS Church, LDS Church leaders, and all young women who want to learn of their full potential as a daughter of God.

As an LDS woman that has grown up in the Church I remember being taught from the young age of 3 years old that we were children of God. One of my favorite songs that I was taught at that tender age was "I am a Child of God". It has always been a blessing to know my place here on Earth and I am thankful that my two daughters also know that they are daughters of God. I love A Princess Story and all its insights and I am also excited to share this book with my daughters as well when the time is right.

You might have heard already how some of the traditions of Easter tie into Christ. The egg can be likened to the resurrection tomb, Jesus' death can be likened to the sacrificial lamb of the Passover as Jesus is often called the "Lamb of God", Lilies were growing in the where Jesus went to pray His final days in the Garden of Gethsemane, bunnies are a symbol of renewal and new birth, and the cross is a symbol of the crucifixion of Jesus. These are some of the main Christian symbols of Easter and their meanings.

Celebrating a Christ-Centered Easter: Seven Traditions to Lead Us Closer to Jesus Christ by Emily Belle Freeman is a great book for the Easter holiday! As a follow-up book to Celebrating a Christ-Centered Christmas and The Peter Potential, it helps us remember that Jesus Christ should be the center of the Easter Holiday. The author, Emily Belle Freeman, shares her insights by retelling the stories of the followers of Christ during the time surrounding His crucifixion and resurrection. Each chapter has a brief first-person narrative from the perspectives of Jesus, Mary, Lazarus, Simon, Mary Magdalene, and others. Also there are wonderful traditions to symbolize each of these stories. You will discover the meaning behind the wheat baskets, the forget knot, the red egg, and other traditions to add to your festivities. At the end of this short, but sweet, book you feel as if you know each one of these important people even more deeply and you also come away with seven Christ-Centered Easter traditions that you can apply to your own Easter celebration.

With only 96 pages this small book is a treasure to be had. The author has a gift of storytelling that brings the thoughts, emotions, and character into seven disciples in Christ's life, death, and resurrection. These people have life breathed into them by the author. A scripture is placed at the beginning of each chapter with a black and white line art illustration of the tradition to go with each beautifully woven true story. At the end of each is a tradition with a hymn to play or sing, the scripture passage to read with questions to ponder, the description of the tradition to try, and words that sum up the lesson. These stories and traditions exemplify Easter and all that is so holy about it. I let it steep/brew for 15-30 minutes and then filtered out the bits of roots and herbs that were left over. After doing my first cup this way I decided that it would be better to make in my French press. I am so glad I did because it made the whole process easier.

Have you ever wondered what inspired Dickens to write the most famous Christmas story of all time? God Bless Us, Every One! tells the story of the creation of A Christmas Carol, a tale that has instilled the spirit of Christmas into millions of hearts, and the experience of the man behind it.

This volume is beautifully illustrated by New York Times bestselling illustrator, Brandon Dorman (The Wizard, Fablehaven series, The Candy Shop War series). It tells the true story as well as some fanciful imagination behind the writing of Dickens's most famous work and reveals how the desperate and downtrodden Dickens discovered the spirit of Christmas for himself with a little help from his own literary characters.

As Charles Dickens dipped his pen and began to write the classic tale A Christmas Carol in the autumn of 1843, the spirit of the story captured his heart and mind in an extraordinary way. Dwindling sales of his previous books had resulted in a desperate financial situation for Dickens, who had used much of his income to support worthy causes and needy family members. But the book which he had intended as a quick solution to his problems turned out to be much, much more.

In addition to magical illustrations and wonderful story, there is a DVD accompanying this book. The characters we've fallen in love with are brought to life as John Rhys-Davies (ax-wielding dwarf Gimli in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) reenacts his book in a production with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and other thespians.

This book and DVD is heartwarming and the illustrations are gorgeous. I love the moral Charles Dickens learned for himself and feel we need to also apply this lesson to our own lives. My family loved the special effects in the program on the DVD. It was also fun seeing John Rhys-Davies in something else besides Lord of the Rings and I didn't know he was also an author. This book and DVD shows that he is very multi-talented. I enjoyed both very much! This set would make a great addition to anyone's home, especially during the holidays.

One of my favorite blogs to read is the Six Sisters' Stuff blog. This blog was created by 6 biological sisters: Camille, Kristen, Elyse, Stephanie, Lauren, and Kendra that wanted to stay in touch and share recipes, crafts, projects and neat ideas with each other while apart. Growing up with just sisters and no brothers in my family I can relate with this blog a lot...even though I only have 2 younger sisters. Six Sisters' Stuff is back for the holidays with their third book, 12 Days of Christmas with Six Sisters' Stuff. This book is loaded with creative ideas for Christmas. There are 144 recipes, DIY crafts to Deck The Halls with, homemade and handcrafted gift ideas, party ideas, ways to serve, family traditions, tips, and more. This book is split up into 12 topics having 12 different fun ideas underneath each. It definitely is a great way to organize the book. It has 143 pages packed with full color easy recipes, crafts, projects and ideas similar to the ones on their blog. These were all compiled as a collection of their family favorites. You can make all kinds of things from it that are simple to create and easily affordable too. Both their blog and the book reminds me of the many creative things we made at Young Women activities and still make in Relief Society. A table of contents in the front and an index in the back keep it simple to find everything. I will definitely be keeping this book on hand as a go to book for helping me: create yummy meals and desserts quickly, decorate my home for the holidays, and create unique one of a kind gifts for friends and family.

The recipes in this book look so delicious! I can't wait to try out these desserts: Cherry Chocolate Muffins, Nutella Banana Bread, Eggnog Gingerbread Trifle, and Almond Joy Bars! Yummy! Again the Six Sisters' Stuff does not disappoint when it comes down to slow cooker meals. I love my Crock-pot and use it a lot! I will be trying out the Slow-Cooker Chicken Fajita Soup and the Slow-Cooker Ham and Pineapple Sandwiches soon.

I love that this book makes it easy to make so many neat things for the home and others. I love to throw together cookie plates for neighbors and friends and this cookbook makes it easy to do so because it has 12 to pick from! Not only that, but the 12 Days of Christmas with Six Sisters' Stuff has wonderful ideas for gifts that are inexpensive and easy to make. I love the Burlap Handprint Tree Skirt, the Wood Photo Blocks, and the Christmas Monogram Hanging.

This book is wonderful to get us in the holiday spirit, deck the halls, and get together with family and friends in "The Most Wonderful Time of Year!". Celebrate the joy of the season with the Six Sisters' Stuff.

Six Sisters' Stuff is back with seconds with their newest cookbook, A Year with Six Sisters' Stuff. So many mouthwatering meal and recipe choices! It is jam packed with over 150 new recipes broken into 52 menu plans to share with family and friends. It has easy to follow instructions and every recipe is accompanied by gorgeous full color photos. Each meal has a entree, side dish and dessert. You can also take those meals and mix and match other recipes from the book to make different meal offerings. The ingredients that the Six Sisters use are usually found in the home making the meals even easier to throw together at the last minute. Making three-course meals couldn't be more simple and stress-free when following the Six Sisters. Also tucked in throughout are tips, crafts, helpful checklists, traditions, ideas and activities; all easily found by table of contents and index.

My favorite meals from this cookbook have to be the slow cooker ones. I love my Crock Pot! The Honey-Lime Chicken Enchiladas sound so good too! I really would love to try the Homemade Bread Bowls because I love soup. I am also on a fruit kick so the Ambrosia Fruit Salad, Berry Cheesecake Pudding and Mandarin Orange Pretzel Salad look absolutely delicious. These and so many other recipes grace the pages of the A Year with Six Sisters' Stuff Cookbook.

I love that this cookbook makes it easier on the cook to make healthy and homemade three course meals for their family. Dinnertime especially is supposed to be family time. So gather around the table with your family and partake in the delicious food that Six Sisters' Stuff has in store for you.

Biblical Names of Christ Heirloom Ornaments Review

The Biblical Names of Christ Heirloom Ornaments are a wonderful reminder of what the true meaning of Christmas is all about. These Christ-centered holiday ornaments are great to display on a tree, as gift tags, or adorning a wreath on the front door. Each star has a one of the sacred biblical names of the Savior across it and comes nestled in a box of shredded brown paper with a viewing window to see them through the lid. On the back of the box they come in, a scripture reference accompanies each name. Since there are 12 of these they are perfect for a "Twelve Days of Christmas" countdown. Jesus is the reason for the season. Ornament size: 3¼" x 3¼". *Hooks & twine NOT included.

These decorations are made of tin-like metal and have a rustic antique pewter finish to them. They won't break if dropped by little ones, but the holes at the top are fragile if bent too much and I could see them breaking off if mishandled. We also would have loved the name on one side and the scripture reference on the other, not just the reference on the box.

We love to reflect this time of year about the birth of Jesus and love to have something to display that helps us do so. These stars are a great scripture reference tool and they can be incorporated well with Family Home Evening or family devotionals. I had my kids hang each one on our tree while I read the scripture to the one they were hanging. Then we had a discussion about them. It was a great family experience.

Christmas From Heaven Book and Mormon Tabernacle Choir DVD Review

The Christmas From Heaven book and Mormon Tabernacle Choir DVD is the heartfelt true story of a young cargo pilot by the name of Gail Halvorsen in the US Army Air Corps who was assigned to fly in much needed supplies to a war-torn, Soviet-blockaded Berlin. Not only did he do this duty, but he went far above and beyond to give some beacon of hope to the children living there as well. With his acts of kindness he became known as The Candy Bomber or Uncle Wiggly Wings and spread the joy of giving to other sympathetic Americans.

This story touched my heart and helped me get into the true spirit of Christmas. I loved the book with the wonderful illustrations and actual photographs. Tom Brokaw is a great storyteller as well as a newsman. He tells the story beautifully of "Hal's" generosity. I loved the DVD that came along with the book. The narration that Tom gives with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing in the background is profound. I love the portrayal of the events by the children and actual parachutes of candy falling from inside the Tabernacle. We also get to meet the Candy Bomber himself on the DVD, now 90 something years young, and wearing his uniform from when he was in service. This book and DVD is a wonderful addition to my library and I think it will become our new tradition to read and watch it every Christmas.

Six Sisters' Stuff Book Review - Recipes, Crafts, Etc.

One of my favorite blogs to read is the Six Sisters' Stuff blog. I received their awesome new and very first cookbook for free to facilitate this review. This book is a great resource for meals that can be prepared and cooked quickly so that family can be enjoyed around a table. Meal preparation is difficult for some, but it certainly doesn't have to be. More than 80 great tried and true recipes from on hand ingredients grace the pages of this book with easy to follow instructions and gorgeously represented by full color photos. This book has the recipes categorized into: main dishes, slow cooker meals, sides, salads, breads, and desserts. When I first got the book I looked through the pages and the recipes made my tummy start rumbling because they all looked and sounded so good. I am going to have to try the Baked Chicken Bacon Ranch Taquitos because I love taquitos and never have tried making them myself. I have had a similar version of the Grilled 7-Up Chicken  before at a barbeque in Utah and it is delicious! The Creamy Slow Cooker Ranch Pork Chops and Potatoes is a similar recipe I use at home, except I haven't ever put the ranch in with it...I will have to try that. I love slow cooker meals too because you can just throw the ingredients in the crock pot and let them simmer all day making the house smell just divine. The German Chocolate Cake Bars I definitely need to try because I love German Chocolate anything! There are so many other yummy sounding recipes in this book that I am going to have to try soon!

The crafts, helpful checklists, ideas and activities are scattered throughout the book in various locations easily found by table of contents and index. I will be putting the Spring Cleaning Checklist to good use soon. The Ice Cream Cone Piñata sounds like it would make a great party. I love the family theme of this book and that many of the crafts and activities ca be done as a family to create memories that will last. There are so many other fun crafts and ideas too that I now want to incorporate in my everyday endeavors from this book.

This book has 208 pages packed with full color easy recipes, crafts, projects and ideas similar to the ones on their blog. These were all compiled as a collection of their family favorites. You can make all kinds of things from it that are simple to create and easily affordable too. Both their blog and the book reminds me of the many creative things we made at Young Women activities and still make in Relief Society. I will definitely be keeping this book on hand as a go to book for helping me: create yummy meals quickly, beat boredom, and conquer clutter.

Festival of Nativities - Free Events

While I was at church this past Sunday I heard about an free event for the public for the holidays and ever advancing Christmas season. The Longview LDS Stake Center is having their very first annual Community Festival of Nativities. I have been to one of these festivals when I was living in Ohio and it is really something to behold. People donate their unique nativities to be displayed for the time of the festival. Longview hopes to have literally hundreds of different Christmas nativities from around the world on display for people to come and view. They will also have music from talented local performers.

These events are a great way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with your nearby community. If you do not live nearby one of these churches just inquire of an LDS church close by you to see if they know of a Festival of Nativities that you can visit in your area.

LDS 182nd Annual General Conference

Join with me to watch or listen to the 182nd Annual General Conference, a semiannual gathering of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints members and friends from around the world to hear God's words through His prophet. It starts on March 31–April 1, 2012. The four general sessions will be held on Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. mountain daylight time. The priesthood session will be held on Saturday, March 31, at 6:00 p.m. mountain daylight time.

In biblical times, God spoke to His children through prophets. God loves His children today as much as He did anciently. In our day, He has called prophets in our day to teach and testify of Him. The Prophet and President, Thomas S. Monson, of my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, will be speaking along with other leaders of my church.
