CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Review

Because I am a member of BzzAgent I received word of a BzzCampaign for CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain. I had never tried this product so I applied and received color number 415, Teasing Blush, in the mail.

This product from CoverGirl has a marker or pen applicator for your lips unlike regular tube lipsticks. It is water based so it shouldn't dry out your lips and doesn't feel heavy or look thick. It is supposed to last far longer than regular lipstick and isn't supposed to kiss or rub off onto anything. No leaving color on your teeth or cup.

Well, I was told that exfoliating your lips before using this product works better so you have more of an even application. It says to apply it to clean, dry lips. There are several methods I know to exfoliate lips. You could: use petroleum jelly and a wet washcloth, softly rub with a sugar scrub, manually exfoliate with a very soft toothbrush, or use a micro-exfoliating scrub made especially for the lips. When exfoliating lips it is best to start slow, rub gently, and then moisturize.

It was pretty simple to apply it correctly so it goes on smoothly. When using the Outlast Lipstain I found that putting a gloss over it made it shimmer instead of look flat. After drying fully (this does take some time and patience) it does seem to stay put. Although I had a bit of trouble with it if I licked my lips. If you lick your lips they have a raspberry-vanilla scent and flavor so they don't taste horrible. I have heard the applicator dries out easily and quickly, but if you store it like a pen or marker should be stored, tip down, then that problem should be solved.

All in all I liked the product and after thoroughly drying it stayed on for roughly 4 hours. I personally like to put a gloss or lip balm over it because it wasn't as moisturizing as I would have liked. It's suggested retail is $7.29 for one lipstain and they come in other colors that will compliment your skin tone.

Master Lock Has New Combination Locks

Just in time for back-to-school, Master Lock is introducing brand new technology with two new families of patented combination locks – the 1500iD Speed Dial™ Set-Your-Own Combination Lock and the 1590D Set-Your-Own Combination Lock - that were designed with students’ unique learning styles in mind:

- The Speed Dial Set-Your-Own Combination Lock opens on up-down-left-right directional movements, instead of the traditional rotary dial, and can be customized with letters, shapes or numbers, depending on how students most easily remember their combination
- The Set-Your-Own Combination Lock is a traditional rotary dial for students more comfortable with that method, but with a new reset feature that allows them to choose their own combination using, letters, numbers or both

Both locks are more secure than traditional padlocks (which moms love!), are faster for students to access between classes and come in vibrant color choices (which kids love!).

In addition to keeping kids’ text books and gym clothes safe, Master Lock is also helping kids keep their secrets safe and secure online with the “Master Lock Secret Vault” Facebook application. After installing the application, participants have a chance to win a cash prize in the “Master Lock $5,000 Secure Your Future Sweepstakes.”

Top 10 Reasons I am Excited to Stay Home with My Family this Coming Weekend.

So, there are a lot of bloggers out there that are going to BlogHer. I happen to NOT be one of them. So, instead I wanted to put my top 10 reasons I am excited to stay home with my family this coming weekend...

01. I can get away from the house a bit even if it will be with my family just running errands. (Many of you don't know this about me but, I still don't have my drivers license. I have a learners permit...just haven't passed the driving test yet. Yes, I know I am a bit old to not have one, but I get nervous! I know, I am a loser, LOL!)

02. My husband will be home with me and the family this weekend! He volunteered to work overtime last weekend because they were short 4 people.

03. I can look for a wheelchair accessible bus. (We have a five year old special needs daughter, Tatiana, that is currently wheelchair bound. We just found out that our 2006 van cannot be equipped with a ramp because it is too old a body style. So because our family might possible grow more, we are now looking for a small bus that will suit all our needs.)

04. I get to go to the Annual Neighborhood BBQ that my good friend, neighbor, and fellow homeschooler has been coordinating every year since she moved to the neighborhood.

05. I get to have my boys back from "Clark Camp", their grandparent's [Babu (short for Babushka...no she's not Russian, she's Alaskan and parts of Alaska have a lot of Russian Orthodox churches) and Papa Clark's] week of fun at their house.

06. I get to announce who the winners are for the giveaways going on now and ending Friday July 24, 2009 at midnight (GMT-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada) on my blog.

07. I won't be bombarded constantly by therapists and nurses coming to my home for Tatiana because it will be the weekend. (These are awesome folks! Tati and I just need a break once in a while.)

08. We will be able to go to Shriner's hospital to get Tatiana's AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthotics) looked at to see why they are pinching her. While we are there we will also be able to see if Tatiana's EasyStand stander can be fitted to her, get some straps for it, and get whatever else it needs for her to be able to use it. (It was a gracious second hand gift and we hope she can use it.)

09. I can relax at home, run around in my pajamas, eat home cooked meals, sleep in, be with my family, and not have to shave my legs, JK on the last one, LOL!

10. I get to enter contests that are for bloggers like me that can't go to BlogHer for one reason or another. Like these ones: Mommy's Quiet Time Non Blogger Party and the COZI Sponsorship - 15 Bloggers with $100 each!

Please I beg you! Help me win a $100 Cozi sponsorship and leave a comment on this post! Thank you!

The X and Y of Buy by Elizabeth Pace Review

The X and Y of Buy by Elizabeth Pace is a book that tells how to be a successful marketer by knowing the differences between men and women. Let's face it, women shop differently than men. Men like to get in and get out with what they were after without spending too much time and hassle on it. Women like to peruse through the store and find bargains even if it wasn't something they were after to begin with and have a "shop til we drop" mentality. It also says that a man doesn't use both hemispheres of the brain at the same time and a woman is the opposite multi-tasking at every turn and connecting all things together. At least this is what this book says and some of you might be in disagreement about the whole "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus" thing. There are always going to be men and women who don't fit the gender stereotypes.

I find myself more so a stereotypical female. I am a SAHM and love spending time with my kids. My husband is the breadwinner of the family. Over and over again I find myself falling for sales pitches for things I feel that I have to have for some reason or another only to have my husband tell me why I don't really need this or that and the majority of the time he has some fairly good reasons to justify himself. Although unlike the stereotypical woman, I do not own a closet full of shoes and handbags or really feel a necessity to buy a lot of them either. I also do not own a lot of makeup or spend half the morning making myself look pretty. I personally like being natural. I wonder what my life would be like if I was the breadwinner and my husband was the stay at home father. I know many women who thrive in fast paced, high stress positions...I just don't know if I could be one of them.

Some may see this book as sexist, but it has scientific evidence for its theories about the way men and women behave differently when shopping, buying, or just doing anything. It looks at the brain and pulls it apart piece by piece showing how women use it differently than men. It shows how our differences in thinking effect our outcomes in buying. It explains how we are wired differently and what the marketer needs to do to effectively sell their products.

I am a Thomas Nelson Book Review Blogger and I thank them for providing me with this book to review.

Je’Marie FUMI PurseHook Review and Giveaway

Ladies, do you put your handbag or purse on the floor beside you at a restaurant or other hangout place? If so you are missing a great accessory! The floor is no place to put your handbag or purse! It most likely is crawling with germs. The Je'Marie Fashion Unique Multi-purpose Innovation or FUMI for short can be used as a bracelet, purse accessory, or pursehook. These are elegant looking and very functional. It is perfect for hanging your purse on: the edge of a table, the back of a chair, a doorknob, etc. No more leaving your purse on the floor with the bacteria! Since it can be wrapped around your purse straps you will never loose it and you won't have to go digging for it in the bottom of your bag either. They are also eco-friendly because each PurseHook is made out of recycled metal and is fully backed with 100% recycled rubber, which helps secure every hook to any surface! They sell for $24.95 on the Je'Marie website.

I received a FUMI called Vibrant that has a zebra print on it. It suits me because I love the exotics and horses...so zebras are one of my many favorite animals. I tried it out on my loaded down diaper bag and it held it very well. I did have to tie the straps so they were shorter and the bag wouldn't touch the floor. The FUMI works best if your purse doesn't have long straps. Je'Marie PurseHook and Accessories also sells regular pursehooks along with other accessories that you can put on your FUMI or purse. My favorites that I don't have yet are the: Blue Lagoon PurseHook, Cabo Bayo PurseHook, Wild Child PurseHook, Canoodling Flamingos FUMI Charm, Chic Zebra FUMI Charm, and Talking Toucan FUMI Charm.

Thanks to ChicExecs, a company which was created to promote small business campaigns, I was able to let you know about this product.

Win it! Natascha at Je'Marie is giving one lucky reader a FUMI of their choice.

Momfinitions

I just read the article on ParentsConnect about Momfinitions. Seems like Mr. Webster left out some pretty important parenting terms. Here are five of mine with a picture of Jaedan when he was a baby in a snuggabuggy :)

1. Squiggle Noodles = Ramen Noodles. Example: Squiggle noodles, the perfect quick easy meal for every mom! We have these a lot at my house when I am just too tired to cook anything else.

2. Snuggabuggy = A stroller/carseat with a baby wrapped up in a blanket in it. Example: We took the snuggabuggy out for a stroll. Either a blanket or a baby bunting on a chilly day outside, my baby is always snuggled comfortably in something.

3. Boobiemilk = Milk made by mom. Example: The baby sucked on the boobiemilk until she was full. Boobiemilk is what my littlest calls my breastmilk now. I love to bond with my babies!

4. Scallywagtike = A little one who is playfully mischievous. Example: The scallywagtike was pulling on sister's hair. My Teela is a scallywagtike for sure! She steals Tatiana's pretzels when Tatiana hasn't the foggiest what Teela has done.

5. Mominator = A mother that terminates germs, chores, and bad behavior. Example: The Mominator took one look at the icky noses the children had and got out the Boogie Wipes. Sometimes I have days like this...where everything must be spic and span clean and bad behavior cannot and will not be tolerated! Then I become the Mominator. My kids gave me the nickname :)

Tupperware's Chain of Confidence Challenge

I just entered the Tupperware's Chain of Confidence Challenge, a ‘pay-it-forward’ contest which invites you to share your story of inspiration on Chain of Confidence by nominating a friend, relative, or member of the Tupperware community, who has empowered you through an act of kindness. Three winners will receive $5,000 to donate to the charity of their choice. My mom was my choice of women. Come vote for my essay and enter your own: She Is There For Me.

Here is my essay:

My now five year old daughter, Tatiana, has been through more than anyone should. At 8 months of age she was diagnosed with a brain tumor that when resected took her sight, caused her endocrine problems, and cerebral palsy. My mom flew out from Utah to be with my family in Florida during that tough time. She grew up in Alaska so the heat there didn't agree with her, but she was still there giving her support.

Now that my family has moved to Oregon. My mom and my dad have dropped everything to move out to Oregon also to try and be closer to us to help out more. There has been many hospital stays for Tatiana where my mom was there watching out for her when I couldn't. She has been a Godsend!

April 2008 was a particularly stressful time. I was pregnant with my 4th child and Tatiana went into the hospital again. She was given an antibiotic, had a severe hemolytic reaction to it, and almost died. I was to be induced to labor in a different hospital merely days from that and my mom went with me and my dad stayed with Tatiana. The same day I went into labor we received word that Tatiana had to have an ileostomy because her small intestine had developed a hole. I was devastated, but my mom comforted me and empowered me to have strength to have my baby. In the end everything went fine.

With each experience I have learned a lot of things and grown as a person. One thing I have learned is that my mom will always be there for me. Thanks Mom!

Nixie Clothing Review and Giveaway

Nixie Clothing has beautiful one of a kind clothing for children. All are made in London, UK. They use only sustainable reconditioned wools and vintage fabrics in their clothing. I love that they make such lovely clothing out of what would otherwise become discarded. They are eco-friendly and ethical. I first saw a butterfly dress from Nixie Clothing on another blog and was immediately drawn to its pixie like appearance. It reminded me of a fairytale dress. In fact the clothing is based on German folktales. All of Nixie Clothing are perfect for playing tea party or fanciful imagination. The designs are all unique and eccentric. If they came in my size I would be wearing them :) They do come in these sizes: (XS) 1-2 years, (S) 3-4 years, (M) 5-6 years, and (L) 7-8 years and they ship worldwide!

I was sent an absolutely gorgeous berry bohemian (boho) dress for my daughter, Teela in a size (XS) 1-2 years. She looks so sweet in it! She has some growing room in it too which is wonderful because children grow so fast.

Win it! Nicole at Nixie Clothing is giving one lucky reader a Boho Coat of their choice.

Wupzey Review and Giveaway

Do you have a baby that makes a big mess when eating in their highchair? If so, this product is possibly for you! This clever device called a Wupzey fits under your baby's highchair and catches the food, sippy cups, utensils, etc. that baby drops down its front. It is lightweight and made of durable rip-stop nylon. The Wupzey is machine washable or you can just rinse or wipe it clean. It dries fast, is water resistant, and costs about $14-$15. Wupzey is intended for a child of 5-18 months, depending on the ability and size of the child, who is learning to eat foods by themself.

I received a navy food catcher from Wupzey. It was a bit tricky to install on my daughter's highchair because of the way my highchair is built, but I managed to get it on after a few tries moving the Velcro squares around to find the best position. After I installed it I was ready to have Teela try it out. I gave my daughter some cereal and raisins. All the food she dropped down her front became instantly trapped by the Wupzey. We also tried it at a later time when Teela was trying to spoon feed herself and she got quite a bit down her front and into the Wupzey at that time because she is still trying to get the hang of using a spoon properly. Teela does like to slosh food off the sides of the tray and has a pretty good throwing arm for a baby...so there was still food that got onto my floor, but the Wupzey did do what it was advertised to do. It reduced the mess on my floor. Thank you Wupzey :)

Thanks to ChicExecs, a company which was created to promote small business campaigns, I was able to let you know about this product.

Win it! Peter at Wupzey is giving one lucky reader a Cranberry Red Wupzey.

Mandatory:
1. Go to the Wupzey website and tell me what other things they sell from their store.

Additional entries:
1. Subscribe to my blog by Blogger, by email, or both and let me know. (1 extra entry)

2. Become my fan on Facebook. (1 extra entry)

OHSU New Emergency Room for Kids Only

A while back Tatiana was at the ER at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon and they were filming for the new emergency room for kids that had just opened. We had been brought back to the new wing and were waiting for a room to open up. They asked me if it was alright to film her and I said sure. I signed a waiver and they started filming. She was there at the ER because she is medically involved and like many times before she had an episode of throwing up which we could not explain.

It was interesting because they made the ER for kids ocean themed and my husband, Brain, and I love dolphins and whales :) It was as if it was made just for us because Tatiana has been in a out of the ER so much. They have neat jelly fish lights hanging from the ceiling above the big check in desk, a sea creature on the floors outside each room, waves on the doors of the rooms, and other sea decor.

I was wondering when I was ever going to see the footage of what they shot when I ran across it today. Go to the link here and click on the image to begin the tour. Here are some clipped images from the video. If you don't know, Tatiana is my daughter with very red hair and she is the very first little kid you see in the video :) I am also in the video in my brown jacket. You can see me in the third picture standing at the foot of Tatiana's hospital bed.

While you are there you can also register to receive a free gift from the hospital. Gift includes a Portland Aerial Tram ticket, sidewalk chalk and a Doernbecher eco-backpack!

Creative Clips by Colleen Review and Giveaway

Creative Clips by Colleen does a fantastic job at making very adorable clips. They feature a strip of Velcro to prevent the clip from slipping in fine hair.

I received a Cupcake on Medium Pink clip for my daughters to wear. It is very well made and held my daughter, Teela's, bangs out of her eyes. Teela really needed something that she wouldn't mess with. To often I find the hairbands I have put on her get pulled down or off. She really didn't touch this little clip which is a big plus!

Creative Clips by Colleen makes other very cute designs too. I love the Light Blue Butterfly on Stripe, Pink Butterfly on Green & Pink Stripe, Small Pink Heart on Pink & White, Hot Pink Flower on Satin, Sheer Pink Flower on Argyle, Coral Flower, Rose Flower, Yellow Flower, Lavender Flower on Light Purple, Mauve Pearl Medallion on Light Pink, and all the crown clips. Besides clips they have headbands and a clip rack for sale on their website. The clips are a little pricey at $8-$10, but these are handmade so don't be gawking at the price!!

Thanks to ChicExecs, a company which was created to promote small business campaigns, I was able to let you know about this product.

Win it! Colleen at Creative Clips by Colleen is giving one lucky reader 2 clips of their choice.

Mandatory:
1. Go to the Creative Clips by Colleen website and tell me which 2 clips you would like to win from their store.

Additional entries:
1. Subscribe to my blog by Blogger, by email, or both and let me know. (1 extra entry)
