I believe pets are important part of human happiness. Their integrated existence with us on this planet has its major benefits. Pets have helped mankind for centuries. There is documentation where having a pet around people, especially the: elderly, special needs, disabled or handicapped has lowered stress and increased happiness.

Before she passed away, we were planning on getting a mini pony or hypoallergenic breed of dog for my daughter, Tatiana, who was blind and had cerebral palsy to aid her in her various needs. We did get Prince, a rescued shelter dog, slightly before she passed away and they absolutely adored each other. Prince would be so excited when Tati would come home from school on the bus. He would wait by the door when it was time and when I wheeled her into the house in her wheelchair he would come up to her and put his head in her lap and lick her hand with his doggie kisses. Prince wasn't really trained as a service dog, but he was still very affectionate and loving with her.

Nordic Naturals is putting together a great Photo Contest that supports and gives back to Paws for Veterans and Animal Shelter Dogs. This is a great cause! This helps dogs receive good loving homes and injured military veterans get the care they need.

Rainier's 3rd Annual Harvest Festival

In my town of Rainier, Oregon the 3rd Annual Harvest Festival (previous years it was called the Pumpkin Festival) is happening at the City Park on Saturday, October 27th from noon until dark (around 6:30 pm). This is put on by the Rainier Chamber of Commerce and admission is FREE!

This event is family and kid friendly. Activities include: hay rides, carnival games (25 cents per game), crafts, food, venders, costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, Trunk or Treat and Willow Grove (a band from Longview, Washington) will be playing.

Bring a carved pumpkin for the contest. Really great prizes will be given away for the best pumpkin, costume and trunk or treat-er. There will also be a raffle for some neat stuff to win. At dark there will be a pumpkin lighting ceremony. Costume contest is for all ages including pets. If you are interested in being in the trunk or treat please stop by city hall to pick up an application. Game tickets are 5/$1.00 and raffle tickets will be 5/$1.00.

BabyLegs Fall Frenzy Sale, Halloween Costume Contest, Review and Giveaway

Halloween is coming fast and if you need some accessories to go with your little ones costume BabyLegs has great leggings/legwarmers, tights and socks to add a little something extra to your child's costume and keep their legs, arms, feet and/or tootsies warm on that brisk night of trick-or-treating. I looked around at their website and saw some great ones for ballerinas, princesses, fairies, wildlife (like zebras, leopards, giraffes, tigers and cows), witches, warlocks, firemen, astronauts, robots, sports fans etc. They even have a costume section on their website. If you are at all imaginative you could probably come up with some that would go great with any costume! One great thing is that the leggings are one size fits all and even adults and teens can wear them! The tights and socks do have a great size range you can pick from too.

We were given the opportunity to review some adorable leggings free to go with both of the costumes that I put together for my daughters. Teela who is now age 4 is going to be Little Red Riding Hood this year and so she was given the Rainbow Legwarmers to try. These are made of a soft organic cotton, have wonderful bright rainbow stripes and are great for boys as well as girls. Zari who will be 2 on the 19th of October is going to be a leopard kitty cat this year and was given the Loveable Leopard Legwarmers to try. These have cute pink hearts and leopard spots on them and were so precious with her costume.

I am so glad I am pretty imaginative to be able to put together these costumes pretty much from scratch. I had so much fun making parts of them and seeing the costumes come together in their entirety. I am also glad for the donations I was given to make them even more special. Teela's Red Riding Hood costume was made with a red IKEA pillowcase I found at Goodwill that I split down one side of stitches and folded over for the hood, a red scarf I wrapped around her neck, a fancy red dress she already had, my heirloom baby blessing dress folded down on the top with the arms slipped through the dress sash to make an apron, a basket Teela had and of course the Rainbow Legwarmers from BabyLegs. Zari's Leopard Kitty Cat costume was made with a cute costume (complete with: gold bow tie, leotard, skirt, and tail) handed down from the neighbors, a spotted coat with hood from a different neighbor, black cat ears wrapped with spotted fabric and of course the Loveable Leopard Legwarmers.

My daughters also got the chance to test out a pair of tights each for free. My daughter Teela received the Trapeze Girls Tights and they are very fun and bright! They have both polka dots and stripes. Zari received the Acrobat Girls Tights and these have purple stars that promenade across a magenta background. These are great tights that are footless and have ruffles around the ankles.

Here is my entry:

I homeschool and love to teach my children the importance of being Earth friendly. In my experience in teaching I find that it helps to learn by doing, especially if by doing you can make the world a better place. As a family we reduce, re-purpose, reuse and recycle. We also try to: open windows to let in fresh air and sun when it is a nice day, save rainwater for our lawn and garden, plant a food garden each year, save electricity by turning off lights when not in use and using eco efficient light bulbs and appliances, buy local and go to farmers markets, use reusable containers for food and drink (including when we are out traveling), swap clothing and other things with people or give them to thrift stores or consignments or re-purpose things, use rechargeable batteries, use natural cleaning supplies and hygiene products and cloth diaper. We try to buy organic, all natural, nontoxic, eco-friendly, biodegradable and/or sustainable products when ever possible. I have included a picture of my oldest son. He has been collecting pop tabs to donate to the local Ronald McDonald House, one we have stayed at when my daughter, who passed away April of 2010 at the age of 6, was in the hospital nearby.

My mother doesn't live that far away so I get to see her more often than a lot of people do their mothers. Above is a picture of her with my daughter, Teela, when my daughter was a newborn. My mom is wonderful and I am so very grateful she is around to help when things get stressful or just when I need her. I am comforted by her not just on the phone long distance, but since she only lives 3 hours from me she can visit. When my daughter, Teela, had her birthday party on the 9th of April she was there and when my daughter, Tatiana, passed away she was also there. I am glad we don't live too far away from each other. With 4 children, a blog, and a husband I can get really busy sometimes. It is really easy for me to procrastinate and put dinner off until the very last minute. Sometimes prepackaged meals are the fastest dinner option at the time. Other times I find myself wanting to make a homemade meal for my family. To do this sometimes preparing a meal plan ahead of time needs to occur. I have to tell you that setting aside time to do a meal plan is one of the hardest things for me. Here are my 3 tips...

1. Pick a quick recipe 30 minutes or less including prep. time that you have all of the ingredients for. (Homemade soups, casseroles, or pastas are some of my favorites. One dish or one pot meals are the easiest.)

2. Use a crockpot. This is a lifesaver to getting dinner done fast. Just throw your ingredients in the night before or morning of and let it do the cooking. (Same goes for a rice cooker, bread maker, etc. These devices are supposed to make our lives easier.)

3. Use prepackaged, precut, preshredded, precooked ingredients in your cooking. (Stuff like pre-cut precooked frozen meats, preshredded cheese, precut veggies, boxed already seasoned grains...like couscous or rice, canned beans, etc. can really speed the cooking time.)

Nixie Clothing Review and Giveaway

Nixie Clothing has beautiful one of a kind clothing for children. All are made in London, UK. They use only sustainable reconditioned wools and vintage fabrics in their clothing. I love that they make such lovely clothing out of what would otherwise become discarded. They are eco-friendly and ethical. I first saw a butterfly dress from Nixie Clothing on another blog and was immediately drawn to its pixie like appearance. It reminded me of a fairytale dress. In fact the clothing is based on German folktales. All of Nixie Clothing are perfect for playing tea party or fanciful imagination. The designs are all unique and eccentric. If they came in my size I would be wearing them :) They do come in these sizes: (XS) 1-2 years, (S) 3-4 years, (M) 5-6 years, and (L) 7-8 years and they ship worldwide!

I was sent an absolutely gorgeous berry bohemian (boho) dress for my daughter, Teela in a size (XS) 1-2 years. She looks so sweet in it! She has some growing room in it too which is wonderful because children grow so fast.

Wupzey Review and Giveaway

Do you have a baby that makes a big mess when eating in their highchair? If so, this product is possibly for you! This clever device called a Wupzey fits under your baby's highchair and catches the food, sippy cups, utensils, etc. that baby drops down its front. It is lightweight and made of durable rip-stop nylon. The Wupzey is machine washable or you can just rinse or wipe it clean. It dries fast, is water resistant, and costs about $14-$15. Wupzey is intended for a child of 5-18 months, depending on the ability and size of the child, who is learning to eat foods by themself.

I received a navy food catcher from Wupzey. It was a bit tricky to install on my daughter's highchair because of the way my highchair is built, but I managed to get it on after a few tries moving the Velcro squares around to find the best position. After I installed it I was ready to have Teela try it out. I gave my daughter some cereal and raisins. All the food she dropped down her front became instantly trapped by the Wupzey. We also tried it at a later time when Teela was trying to spoon feed herself and she got quite a bit down her front and into the Wupzey at that time because she is still trying to get the hang of using a spoon properly. Teela does like to slosh food off the sides of the tray and has a pretty good throwing arm for a baby...so there was still food that got onto my floor, but the Wupzey did do what it was advertised to do. It reduced the mess on my floor. Thank you Wupzey :)

Creative Clips by Colleen Review and Giveaway

Creative Clips by Colleen does a fantastic job at making very adorable clips. They feature a strip of Velcro to prevent the clip from slipping in fine hair.

I received a Cupcake on Medium Pink clip for my daughters to wear. It is very well made and held my daughter, Teela's, bangs out of her eyes. Teela really needed something that she wouldn't mess with. To often I find the hairbands I have put on her get pulled down or off. She really didn't touch this little clip which is a big plus!

Creative Clips by Colleen makes other very cute designs too. I love the Light Blue Butterfly on Stripe, Pink Butterfly on Green & Pink Stripe, Small Pink Heart on Pink & White, Hot Pink Flower on Satin, Sheer Pink Flower on Argyle, Coral Flower, Rose Flower, Yellow Flower, Lavender Flower on Light Purple, Mauve Pearl Medallion on Light Pink, and all the crown clips. Besides clips they have headbands and a clip rack for sale on their website. The clips are a little pricey at $8-$10, but these are handmade so don't be gawking at the price!!

Skipping Hippos Review and Giveaway

Skipping Hippos sent me a Dana Pool Poncho to review for my daughter, Teela. It is a beautiful rose pink colored stretch terry cloth with a double braid trim in shades of pink, lavender, and gray. It is so adorable on her!

The pool ponchos are lighter and made of soft stretch terry. They are specifically designed to be a pool cover, but I love to use the one we have for cool or rainy days we have in the spring/summer months. We love to take it to the beach/ocean with us because it is cool and breezy there. The regular ponchos are slightly heavier and made of fuzzy fleece. They are for chilly autumn/fall/winter months. At Skipping Hippos they not only have ponchos, but they also have jackets, coats, and ponchitos (smaller ponchos for your child's dolls).

It took me a while to decide which poncho I wanted because her products are all lovely! I finally narrowed it down to three choices... the Ava Pool Poncho, the Dana Pool Poncho, and the Elise Pool Poncho. I had my husband pick out the color he liked the most for Teela. He was being funny and since he has been in the Navy on a nuclear submarine and works now at a power plant as a Plant Equipment Operator he was calling the colors chilled water blue and reclaimed water purple. Anyway, we decided we liked the purple color better and received the Dana because the Ava became sold out and discontinued. I also love the Apple Poncho, Ophilia Poncho, Jennifer Poncho, Jodi Poncho, Margaret Poncho, Marlies Poncho, and Natalie Pool Poncho! My favorite jacket is the Day In May Raspberry!

The ponchos are great as baby shower gifts, birthday gifts for little ones, or Christmas gifts! The prices for the ponchos range from $12-$46. They have a variety of colors and trimmings to choose from and sizes range from 6-12months to 6X.

Bra Barrette Review and Giveaway

Ladies, if you haven't heard of the Bra Barrette you are missing out on a great little gadget. LTDchix Review and Giveaway

The people that know me well know that I am a mom that wouldn't trade motherhood for anything even with all the chaos and insanity of it all!! I have 4 kids! Two of which are rambunctious adventuresome boys (8 and 7 years old). The other two are a special needs, medically involved 5 year old daughter and a breastfed, pampered one year old daughter.
