Portland, Oregon is like a second home to me. I live in Rainier, Oregon but I love Portland because of the people and atmosphere. Portland is a huge mecca for the artistic. They have a lot of great museums, galleries, a zoo, live concerts, arboretum and botanic gardens, theaters, cinemas, shops, etc. that I love to visit. The people of Portland have their own flavor of style. I love a lot of it, especially the clothing and accessories. One of my favorites I have just found is Foxgloves PDX Fingerless Gloves!

Foxgloves are fun and fashionable fingerless gloves, handmade in Portland, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest. They are available in a variety of colors and patterns, and fashioned from comfortable stretch fabrics (like dancewear, activewear, mesh, knit and jersey). They come in different cuts: elbow length and shorties (wristlets). They are available in adult and child sizes. They are also available in two styles: Thumb style, across the top of the hand, with an opening for the thumb or Finger-style, a v-cut over the back of the hand, with an opening for the middle finger.

Foxgloves PDX have awesome customer service! When I asked if I could review some Foxgloves in their Maroon Gold Knit because I didn't think that I would like the Black & White Striped ones, they were awesome and cut some of their long gloves they hadn't yet sold down to a shortie style and made me up some special in their new latest version of the gloves, which includes a reinforced thumb opening rather than just a cut slit for the thumb (which is the way they used to make all their gloves). They even sent me a pair of their new line of Black & White Stripes also in the shortie style and with reinforced thumb so that I may see the difference in how the stitching lays on the fabric.

I actually came to fall in love with both pairs of gloves and loved how both looked on me. The Maroon Gold Knit ones have this gorgeous raised burgundy maroon flower pattern with gold threading throughout. They are made of such a lovely lacy stretch fabric. Great on days when I want to add some flair to an outfit. The Black & White Stripes are classic. They remind me of zebra stripes or what a sailor would wear :) These are most definitely going in my Spring Gift Guide and the Rose lace ones are going on my Birthday wishlist (My Birthday is May 10th, hint hint!).

Kiki's Fashions Review

I have my own clothing fashion style that I just absolutely love. I have talked about it briefly on this blog. I have kind of a hippie/boho style. I love clothing that has a ethnic flavor from a different country. I have been looking around the web for maternity clothing I like since I am pregnant and one of the stores online I came across had a lot of clothing I love. Kiki's Fashions has some very trendy maternity clothes at some absolutely fabulous prices!

They carry maternity: short sleeve tops, long sleeve tops, tank tops, dresses, and bottoms. They even have some that are for that transitional stage in your pregnancy. Their clothing is not the droll boring maternity clothing found in most stores. They are cute and highly fashionable.

I really don't want to spend an arm and a leg on clothing I will only wear during my pregnancy...who does? Kiki's Fashions prices range from $9.99 to $29.99. They also have sweet Under $10 and Clearance sections!!

I picked the Jade Embroidered Short Sleeve Maternity Shirt from their store to try and review for free from Kiki's Fashions. I love this shirt! It reminds me of the Orient and I love the color! It has a tie in the back that enables you to cinch it up if needed and gorgeous embroidered accents that make the shirt more wonderful! The only real downside is that this shirt is made from 100% Rayon so it wrinkles easily and is more difficult to clean. Also, the front comes a bit low for me so I am more comfortable wearing a shirt under this. I picked the small because I am petite even when I am pregnant and it fit very nicely even though I am now 36 weeks. These shirts come in other colors besides this pretty jade (which is actually more of a teal): olive brown and light plum.

CoverGirl Blast Review

Because I am a member of BzzAgent I received word of a BzzCampaign for CoverGirl SmokyShadowBlast and the CoverGirl ShineBlast Lipgloss. I had never tried these products so I applied and received color number 810 Purple Plume for the eyeshadow and 805 Radiate for the lipgloss for free in the mail.

The smokyshadowblast from CoverGirl has a 2 step double tipped applicator for your eyes and it has the consistency more of a lipstick. You apply step 1 (the lighter shade) which is a rounded tip all over your lid from your lash line to your brow bone. Then apply step 2 (the darker shade) which is a tapered tip on your lash line and in the crease of your upper lid.

The lighter color is a mauve pink. The darker color is more of a plum. I thought that the color I chose is very pretty, but did not have the effect of the smoky eye look that I thought it should. It is more subtle. I still guess I could be missing something key because CoverGirl thought that the look would be simple and every female could achieve it with the smokyshadowblast product. I also want to point out that a lot of people who have used this product say that it breaks easily. Don't turn the tip up too much or it will break with the pressure you might need to apply enough of this eyeshadow to create the wanted effect. There are 6 total expertly paired shades in the smokyshadowblast collection. Maybe you'll have more luck with a different shade?

OK, on to the shineblast lipgloss...On the CoverGirl website they show radiate as being a silvery color. I don't know why they got it wrong because it is more of a pink with lilac undertones and a shimmer to it. I love that it gives my lips just a splash of color and extra shine that doesn't get too bold. I usually create my style out of a more natural look so this gloss suits me well. The applicator caught my eye as I placed the color on my lips. It is CoverGirl's new "Breakthrough ShineSculpt applicator" which has a tapered tip for more precise shaping. It helped me apply it smoothly across the contours of my lips. I liked the fruity scent it has and even though it does need to be reapplied a fair amount it goes well over my CoverGirl outlast lipstain that I have and then seems to last longer. Available in 16 different colors.

CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Review

Because I am a member of BzzAgent I received word of a BzzCampaign for CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain. I had never tried this product so I applied and received color number 415, Teasing Blush, in the mail.

This product from CoverGirl has a marker or pen applicator for your lips unlike regular tube lipsticks. It is water based so it shouldn't dry out your lips and doesn't feel heavy or look thick. It is supposed to last far longer than regular lipstick and isn't supposed to kiss or rub off onto anything. No leaving color on your teeth or cup.

Well, I was told that exfoliating your lips before using this product works better so you have more of an even application. It says to apply it to clean, dry lips. There are several methods I know to exfoliate lips. You could: use petroleum jelly and a wet washcloth, softly rub with a sugar scrub, manually exfoliate with a very soft toothbrush, or use a micro-exfoliating scrub made especially for the lips. When exfoliating lips it is best to start slow, rub gently, and then moisturize.

It was pretty simple to apply it correctly so it goes on smoothly. When using the Outlast Lipstain I found that putting a gloss over it made it shimmer instead of look flat. After drying fully (this does take some time and patience) it does seem to stay put. Although I had a bit of trouble with it if I licked my lips. If you lick your lips they have a raspberry-vanilla scent and flavor so they don't taste horrible. I have heard the applicator dries out easily and quickly, but if you store it like a pen or marker should be stored, tip down, then that problem should be solved.

All in all I liked the product and after thoroughly drying it stayed on for roughly 4 hours. I personally like to put a gloss or lip balm over it because it wasn't as moisturizing as I would have liked. It's suggested retail is $7.29 for one lipstain and they come in other colors that will compliment your skin tone.

Bra Barrette Review and Giveaway

Ladies, if you haven't heard of the Bra Barrette you are missing out on a great little gadget. Bra Barrettes are made of a flexible, durable plastic that simply fixes your straps so they won't go anywhere. I hate when my bra straps slide down my shoulders! But, don't let the name deceive you. I happened upon this very charming website the other day because they added me on twitter and I have to share with all of you! Katrina Marie is exceptionally talented! Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewelry Review

Ok, I must admit I had only heard of Smart Mom Jewelry and had already bought their jewelry before I went searching for more great products for teething babies. I came across this website called Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels. They have a line of teething jewelry and keychains similar to Smart Mom Jewelry's. This jewelry line is conceptualized and manufactured by Dr. Helen Bloom Smith, a dentist and loving mom from Birmingham, Alabama.

These jewels are also made from plastic that is food-safe, non-toxic, phthalate, BPA, latex, lead, and PVC free. They are also dishwasher-friendly. Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels are made of food grade silicone that has FDA approved materials and colorings. Not only did Dr. Bloom make sure the material and colorings on her products were safe for your baby, she made sure the product was the perfect thickness/hardness. If a product is too hard it can damage the tooth buds. She apparently has done her research to find the perfect durometer for a teething baby. She should know her stuff, being a dentist and all! The pendants have a latex free cording that has elasticity to allow for stretching instead of the breakaway clasp. The jewels for the necklaces come in a rectangle pendant, circle pendant, or hexagon pendant. They also carry bracelets and keychains.

Smart Mom Jewelry Review

Here is my littlest one, Teela, enjoying some Teething Bling from Smart Mom Jewelry. She is also pictured on their website.

What a great product they have! I love the fact that they are safe for babies to chew on and so stylish to wear. As many moms know that when you wear your jewelry while holding small children they are always enthralled by it and want to either pull on it or chew on it. I can say that most of my jewelry is not safe to chew on. Most have small parts and some even have lead in them! Dawson Park in Portland, Oregon

As I was going to an appointment for my 4 year old daughter at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon we passed a park that had this beautiful gazebo. I immediately fell in love with it. The park is called Dawson Park and it is at N Stanton St & Williams Ave if you ever have the chance of going. The gazebo that was built in 1978 was made from a 120 year-old cupola salvaged from the Hill Block Building that was torn down. Renovated in 2008 it is absolutely my favorite thing about the park! Here is a picture of it that I found online. I will have to go back and actually get some pictures of my own to share with all of you as well. If anyone has pictures of this gazebo please share them with me. Thanks!

Clothing Styles

My fashion style has always been pretty casual. I love wearing jeans and a t-shirt because it is comfortable to me. But sometimes I want to dress up a bit. I like styles that are modest and tasteful better than those that are not and I feel more comfortable in them too.

Jewelry I love: chokers, brooches, chandelier earrings, bangle bracelets (I have always wanted to collect them), and memory wire wrap bracelets (I love to make these in my spare time). When I was young I loved friendship bracelets...still do actually. They are so colorful!

If I am not wearing jeans or capri pants usually I have on a long flowing skirt. I really dislike the skirts with slits that will always show your slip or ones that are too tight they don't let you walk in them. I love long skirts that go down to my ankles. Maybe I am a bit old fashioned. My favorites are the sarong (Indonesia)/pareo (Tahiti)/kikepa (Hawaii)/lavalava (Samoa)/sulu (Fiji)/beach wrap...long skirts, gauze/crinkle/broomstick/gypsy/peasant long skirts.

I also love shawls, scarves, dupatta (long scarf), and ponchos (esp. ones with fringe, metallic threads, eyelash yarn, etc.), capes, caplets (esp. hooded ones). I love outfits from India (kirtis, saris, choli, salwar (pants), kameez (shirt). I love smocked tops with empire waists.

Other things I love, but haven't tried out are bindis and henna/mehndi fake tattoo body art.

Architecture

There are things that I love in architectural design a lot. I love arches, spanish /oriental tile roofing, mosaics, stained glass, greenhouse windows, bay windows, oriel windows, palladian windows, fanlights, skylights, etc.

I love organic architecture that incorporates nature and the outdoors so that the house looks like it blends in with the surroundings. I love the Neoeclectic, or Neo-eclectic style because it incorporates many styles. I would put together styles of old world, moroccan, persian, mediterranean, tropical, and tuscan with a hint of african, hawaiian, and oriental.

If I had my dream house landscape I would use lanterns as indoor and outdoor lighting. I would have a large yard with a swimming pool oasis. It would have a waterfall falling into or out of the pool maybe with a waterslide going into it also. I also would love a jetted hot tub. In my yard would have a gazebo with a chiminea and sitting area. I would have a greenhouse for my garden of flowers, herbs, vegetables, and fruits. My deck/patio would have an outdoor brick oven, a canopy for shade, and an entertaining area. I would have room to have horses and/or mini ponies.

This Blog

I have decided to create this blog to show my style. I have very strong tastes in the rich eccentric, exotic, esoteric, and eclectic. Styles that are unusual, whimsical, and different I love. My lavish tastes have not fully been explored because of the excessive amounts of moola needed. I can only hope to stumble upon a bargain here and there. Some things I have happened upon by accident and the fates have smiled upon me. Things like this beacon to me like the sirens. They wink at me as if to say, "Buy me!".

My style has changed over the years. When I was little I would fancy myself as a princess and the victorian side of me began. Back then I longed for the highly ornamented architecture, decor, and furnishings popular in 19th-century England. Exposed to more and more cultures and art I began to metamorphosis into a butterfly. Now I love combining the different aspects of cultures and other things into something new and unique. The spinning of these most extraordinary things together into one web makes something spectacular.

I only hope to capture the essence of my style; a conglomerate of color, passion, and artistry here in this blog.

New to Homeschooling

I am somewhat new to the art of homeschooling. I have known many people over the years who have done homechooling with their children and I have admired their strength and discipline. I have wanted to homeschool since before I was married, but I had never really had the guts to. Now after putting my first born through Kindergarten in the public school system I realize that it is best for him and my other two children to start homeschool.

I have been researching the best way of teaching them. I have been reading about learning styles and the multiple intelligence theory. The web is full of information on this that is very interesting. My children are still very young so it is a bit difficult to tell which styles they excell at. I haven't really had a professional opinion about the learning styles so I don't know if I am totally correct but I am going to experiment later to see if I am.

My oldest son is now 6 years old and has a love of games, and math. I believe he is a visual (spatial) learner and mathematical (logical) learner. There are two different types of visual learners: the picture type and the print type. My oldest is very much the picture type. He sees pictures of things in his mind to represent concepts and objects. He loves math and does it very well. He loves using manipulatives and the abacus to help him visualize the problems he is trying to work out. He also loves music...so maybe he is a little bit of an aural (auditory-musical-rhythmic) learner as well.

My youngest son is 5 years old and loves outdoors, art, inventing, and eating (I am not particularly worried about the eating thing because he is very energetic and burns a lot of calories). I believe my youngest son is a physical (tactual-kinesthetic) and visual (spatial) learner. He fidgets and can’t sit still for long. He always wants to get up and move around. He is the print and picture type of visual learner. He likes to learn how to spell simple words and write them. He sounds them out letter by letter out loud...so maybe he is also a little bit of an aural (auditory-musical-rhythmic) learner. He is a chatter box...so maybe a little verbal (linguistic) learner also.

My daughter is 3 years old and loves music and to be held, rocked, and cuddled. She is definitely an aural (auditory-musical-rhythmic) and physical (kinesthetic) learner because she is totally blind. I think I am a naturalistic, visual (spatial), and aural (auditory-musical-rhythmic) learner. I love the outdoors...camping, hiking, biking, gardening, horseback riding, beachcombing, boating, etc. I also love dolphin, whales, and horses. I love making crafts out of nature too. I love photography and try to be very organized. I have a good ear for music and when I played violin in school I learned primarily by ear. I believe my husband is a physical (tactual-kinesthetic), verbal (linguistic), and naturalistic learner. He has a great big heart and would someday soon like to save the world. My Homeschooling Style

I am a member of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. We are also known by many as LDS or Mormon. I am also a mother of three beautiful children. Two boys and a girl. I am homeschooling my children in an eclectic way. Eclectic homeschooling is simply; selecting and using what seems best from various sources, systems, or schools of thought. This approach combines some of the elements of the other approaches. I am using the combination of elements from Charlotte Mason, Unit Studies, Waldorf, Montessori, Classical, Unschooling, and LDS/Christian approaches. I might combine other approaches if I feel that they go well with what I am teaching.
