Kroger Skillet Meals Review #GotItFree

We received coupons for free product to facilitate this review.

There are so many days that we are just super busy and after it's all said and done we only have minutes to make a meal for our family. Enter Kroger Skillet Meals, which are easy to make meals that are ready in just ten minutes! They contain at least two servings per bag and contain 20 grams or more of protein! These are found at all Kroger Family Stores (including Fred Meyer, Baker's, City Market, Dillons, Food4Less, King Soopers, Smith’s, PayLess, etc.) and come in the frozen section of the store. These come in a variety of authentic Italian flavors including NEW Tuscan-Style Penne, Sausage Rigatoni, Penne with Grilled Chicken and many more! They also are available in delicious NEW Asian and Mexican varieties like Shrimp Lo Mein or Chicken Fajitas. You can create a complete meal when you add your favorite sides to go with it, such as Kroger Garlic Bread, and Fresh Selections Salad Kits.

Because I am a member of BzzAgent I received word of the BzzCampaign for the Kroger Skillet Meals. I received a free coupon for one Kroger Skillet Meal, a Kroger Garlic Bread, and a Fresh Selections Salad Kit to facilitate this review. We went to our local Fred Meyer to get this. We got the Tuscan-Style Penne. It was very yummy, but with a family of 6 the pasta meal just wasn't too practical unless you also made something else to go with it. We loved the pasta with garlic sauce, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, and big chunks of chicken. It was easy to prepare and fast. Just place it in a skillet and simmer together. This meal was very yummy, but it was gone too quick. One bag only really is supposed to make 2 servings. I was wanting more because it was so good.

We also got the garlic bread and salad kit to go with it. The bread and the salad were a good pairing and went well with the meal. The garlic bread is also easy to make, just pop it in the oven bag and all for a bit to warm it up. I love garlic bread, but this was not as garlicky or crunchy as I would have liked. I usually over garlic my dishes because I love garlic. Maybe if I would have taken it out of the bag and let it brown in the oven a bit more it would have been better. You have to admit the convenience of not having to wash another pan is nice though. We picked the Field Greens salad because, from looking, it had the most dark leafy veggies in the mix. This Fresh Selections Salad had romaine lettuce, endive, carrots, and radicchio. As salads go it was just OK, but it did give the plate a lovely garnished look.

Tonka XT Ricochet Tricksters R/C Review

Because I am a BzzAgent I received free products to try out and review for their Tonka XT Ricochet Tricksters BzzCampaign. I thought it a perfect gift for my oldest son's birthday. Even though Delbin would be getting it late he was very excited. As soon as it came he had to try it out. It was so fun to watch the remote control car do its tricks. Delbin got the hang of it and was having fun launching it off ramps and making it spin and flip. He loved it and I think it is the perfect gift for any boy 6+!

The car my son got was the one with the Rampage Flip as the signature trick. It has two different sides that when flipped it looks like a different vehicle. The car itself is rechargeable (has a rechargeable battery included) and plugs into the controller that takes 5 double A batteries that weren't included. The infra red controller charges the car about 20-30 minute charge provides 15-30 minutes of run time.  It can also be controlled on 3 different channels. It is intended for indoor use for ages 6 and up.

The Tonka XT Ricochet Tricksters come in 3 styles: Rampage Flip, Zig-Zag Jolt and Buzzsaw Spin. These R/C cars have an approx. retail of $24.99. You can save $5 with an online coupon here. You can purchase them online at Hasbro or Amazon.com or find them at Walmart, Target, Toys “R” Us and Kmart.

Here is my video of my son playing with his car:

Elmer's CraftBond and X-ACTO Designer Series Review

Because I am a BzzAgent I received free products to try out and review for their Elmer's Crafters Campaign. I tried these products out and here are my thoughts: It seems the X-ACTO quality control not so good. One of the decorative edge scissors was duller than the other, so it didn't cut as well and left a ragged edge on the paper. I had to pry one of the scissors apart before I ever used it because part of the plastic was fused together in front. These scissors would be awesome to use for creating a scalloped and zig zag edge for scrapbooking, card making, or crafting.  The Corner Rounder Punch was very disappointing and didn't punch out the corners at all for me. Different thickness and grades of paper worked better than others. My friend says her punch works fine and does a very good job. If mine worked I think it would be great to round the corners of pictures or paper. Too bad I can't sharpen the corner punch. Elmer's CraftBond products except for the tape runner were awesome! All are acid-free...so perfect for archival work. I had trouble with the tape runner because it didn't roll across the surface of the paper consistently and ended up not being a very good adhesive for some things. The clear glue pen is great and dries really fast...although it makes the paper moist and so it bubbles a little. The all-purpose glue stick...is like a regular glue stick but is also Acid-free, photo safe and non-toxic. The glue spots are great for creating a bit of a 3D look to homemade projects. They are a neat pop-up medium for things.

I received in my Bzz Kit:
X-ACTO Designer Series
2 pairs of X-ACTO Decorative Edge Scissors (scallop and zig zag)
1 X-ACTO Corner Rounder Punch
Elmer's CraftBond
1 Elmer's CraftBond Permanent Tape Runner
1 Elmer's CraftBond Clear Glue Pen
1 Elmer's CraftBond All-Purpose Glue Stick
An assortment of Elmer's CraftBond Glue Spots

Enter the Crafting Memories Sweepstakes for your chance to win over $1200 in prizes. Grand prize includes an Elmer's/X-ACTO prize pack and 2 $500 Walmart gift cards!

Get A Free Sample of Elmer's glue from Elmer's when you sign up for the Elmer's Craft It! Craft Club.

Göt2b Smooth Operator Smoothing Lustre Lotion Review

Göt2b Smooth Operator Smoothing Lustre Lotion is a fantastic hair product that I tried for free because I am a BzzAgent. I received free sample packs of the Smoothing Lustre Lotion and coupons for more Smooth Operator products. I love this product! With the humidity my hair has been super frizzy and this product practically smooths the frizz and fly-aways completely away. I thought at first it would make my hair straighter. I love my natural curls so I am glad that it didn't smooth them out that much. It is unlike hairspray or other products that leave hair hard and unmovable, instead it made my hair silky smooth and soft to the touch. I love the fruity scent...it reminds me of papaya. It also helps to protect against damaging heat from styling and contains UV protection.

What I thought was most interesting about the product is that it now contains cashmere. I didn't quite understand...what did they do put wool in it, LOL! I went researching and found that cashmere is the softest most inner hair of goats and what beauty companies mean when they say they put cashmere in their products is actually cashmere extract. They take the proteins from the cashmere hair. It is also known as hydrolyzed keratin or wool, but that doesn't sound as good as cashmere.

With 3 kids and a baby on the way it is great to find products to make you beautiful that are so easy to use. All you have to do with this product is put some into your hand and distribute evenly through towel-dried or dry hair. Then style your hair how you want. I love my hair down so that is how I styled it.

The suggested retail price is $5.99 for a 6.8 oz dispenser with a cute charm. The Smoothing Lustre Lotion is part of a full line of Göt2b Smooth Operator Products including: Smoothing Hair Spray, Smoothing Luxury Mousse, and Smoothing Satin Drops.

CoverGirl Blast Review

Because I am a member of BzzAgent I received word of a BzzCampaign for CoverGirl SmokyShadowBlast and the CoverGirl ShineBlast Lipgloss. I had never tried these products so I applied and received color number 810 Purple Plume for the eyeshadow and 805 Radiate for the lipgloss for free in the mail.

The smokyshadowblast from CoverGirl has a 2 step double tipped applicator for your eyes and it has the consistency more of a lipstick. You apply step 1 (the lighter shade) which is a rounded tip all over your lid from your lash line to your brow bone. Then apply step 2 (the darker shade) which is a tapered tip on your lash line and in the crease of your upper lid.

The lighter color is a mauve pink. The darker color is more of a plum. I thought that the color I chose is very pretty, but did not have the effect of the smoky eye look that I thought it should. It is more subtle. I still guess I could be missing something key because CoverGirl thought that the look would be simple and every female could achieve it with the smokyshadowblast product. I also want to point out that a lot of people who have used this product say that it breaks easily. Don't turn the tip up too much or it will break with the pressure you might need to apply enough of this eyeshadow to create the wanted effect. There are 6 total expertly paired shades in the smokyshadowblast collection. Maybe you'll have more luck with a different shade?

OK, on to the shineblast lipgloss...On the CoverGirl website they show radiate as being a silvery color. I don't know why they got it wrong because it is more of a pink with lilac undertones and a shimmer to it. I love that it gives my lips just a splash of color and extra shine that doesn't get too bold. I usually create my style out of a more natural look so this gloss suits me well. The applicator caught my eye as I placed the color on my lips. It is CoverGirl's new "Breakthrough ShineSculpt applicator" which has a tapered tip for more precise shaping. It helped me apply it smoothly across the contours of my lips. I liked the fruity scent it has and even though it does need to be reapplied a fair amount it goes well over my CoverGirl outlast lipstain that I have and then seems to last longer. Available in 16 different colors.

Starbucks Pike Place Roast and Caffè Verona Review

I love the smell of coffee beans, ground coffee, and pots of coffee brewing. Every time I go down the coffee aisle of a grocery store I take in a big whiff. The smell makes me happy...I don't know why.

I have loved Starbucks over the years. My favorite drink there was the Apple Chai tea. I am definitely more of a tea person than a coffee drinker, but I do love a good cup of flavored coffee or espresso. My husband loved Starbucks' caramel frappachinos. The last time we went through their drive through; however, we got a little bit of hassle about making the Apple Chai tea because apparently Starbucks has now taken it off their menu and the caramel frappachino that my husband got was a new mix that apparently Starbucks thinks is better. We don't agree. Their new frappachinos now taste nasty. I really hope they go back to the original recipe. We probably won't be going there as much because of this.

Anyway, enough of my rant about that. I received a 12 oz bag of ground Starbucks Pike Place Roast coffee and a 5 oz bag of ground Caffè Verona free from BzzAgent. They are both home brewed coffee. To make the ground coffee taste the best Starbucks says to use cold, filtered water and a clean machine. Then you measure 2 Tbsp (10 g) ground coffee for every 6 fl oz (180 ml) water. Starbucks coffee is available in bagged form at all major grocery stores and mass retailers like Target and Wal-Mart. There are many variety of flavors available. Starbucks' beans are also grown and sourced ethically and sustainably.

FREE BREWED COFFEE:
If you take an empty specialty marked bag of Starbucks coffee to a Starbucks location you can get a free tall (12 fl oz.) brewed coffee. Expires 30 days after the "Best Before" date printed on the bag. Limit one per customer. Cannot be combined with other offers or discounts.

There are also some cool videos and recipes that you can partner with your home brewed coffee at starbucksathome.com.

MY THOUGHTS:
I like coffee well enough, but I would have loved it more if the Pikes Place Roast was flavored. My favorites are Irish cream and hazelnut. I tasted both coffee just with sugar and milk and they were good, but the Pikes Place Roast needed something more in my opinion. I put my Pralines and Creme Coffee-Mate coffee creamer in it and the coffee was instantly better. I can't really compare the Pikes Place Roast or the Caffè Verona with any other Starbucks brewed coffee because I have never tried any others. My neighbor who drinks quite a bit of coffee loves the Pikes Place Roast and raves about how wonderful it is. The Pikes Place Roast says it has a smoother finish and subtle flavors of cocoa and toasted nuts. The Caffè Verona I liked better. It is a dark cocoa that is rich, roasty sweet and bold...not bitter like some other brands I have had. It made a good cup just with milk/cream and sugar.

BABIES Film Introduction

I am excited to share with you a new film that will be coming out on May 7th, Mother's Day Weekend. I really want to see this film myself and I think that you will also enjoy watching it. It looks like it is really well done and my kids and I loved watching the trailer to the movie and the short clips on the website. I enjoy learning about different cultures and I believe that this would be a wonderful homeschooling opportunity for my children to do so also. They learn so much by the world music I love to listen to and I think that they will also learn a lot from this film. Take a look...

Mahatma Rice Review

Mahatma Rice is the new name of S&W Rice. In Hindi, "Mahatma" (pronounced "ma-hat-ma") means "outstanding" or "superior in character." Mahatma has been serving up delicious rice for any mealtime occasion since 1932. Just the name has changed and nothing else. It is a great rice for cooking with! I love it for a lot of dishes.

Mahatma White Rice

* Southern extra long grain rice (just like S&W Rice)
* Wholesome flavor
* Naturally gluten, sodium, cholesterol and fat free
* Kosher approved
* Available in 2 lb. (MSRP $1.99-$2.99), 3 lb. (MSRP $2.99-$3.69) and 5 lb. (MSRP $4.39-$5.29) bags
* Found in most grocery stores

Mahatma Brown Rice

* A natural, healthy and delicious choice. Brown rice is rice grain with only the outer hull removed — the fiber and nutrient-dense bran layers cover the white inner part of the grain and have a light brown color and contribute a subtle nut-like taste and chewy texture.
* USA-grown (just like S&W Rice)
* Sodium, cholesterol and gluten free
* Good source of whole grains
* Kosher approved
* you can cook it in just 30 minutes
* contains naturally occurring rice bran oil — for increased shelf life, it’s recommended you keep it refrigerated.
* Available in 28oz (MSRP $1.99-$2.29) and 3 lb. (MSRP $2.99-$3.69) bags
* Found in most grocery stores

Because I am a member of BzzAgent I received word of a BzzCampaign for the Mahatma Rice. I received free coupons for samples and information from BzzAgent.com. I made my sushi with the Mahatma white rice and found it to do very well compared to the brand I usually use. My sushi is not perfect, but it is very tasty!! Here is my recipe on how to make my sushi. It is fairly simple and I love to give demonstrations when people come over and that is what I am fixing. I even inspired my good friend, Erin of Connected2Christ blog, to make her own at home when I made some while she was visiting when we were both pregnant with our daughters. She even posted on her blog about her having fun making some at her place. My sushi is made with white rice, smoked salmon, avocado, cream cheese, and Nori (what my kids call green paper)...sometimes I substitute canned tuna for the smoked salmon. Unfortunately after having her baby girl Erin became ill whenever she ate avocado...so she makes hers all kinds of other ways now. Other than what I usually use as ingredients you can add all kinds of other things including cooked egg, pickles, sweet peppers, onions, asparagus, cucumber, crab or imitation crab meat, sprouts, carrots, toasted sesame seeds, etc. Just be creative!!

My Sushi.
EQUIPMENT:
Bamboo sushi rolling mat
Clean cutting board
Sushi knife or very sharp knife
Large pot or Rice Cooker
Wood spoon or wood or plastic rice paddle for spreading rice thin
Plastic wrap

INGREDIENTS:
1 package of Nori (roasted seaweed paper)
3 cups uncooked white rice (cook with 4 1/2 cups cold water in large pot or rice cooker, heat to boiling, reduce to low for 15 minutes with lid, turn off heat, keep covered on burner with heat off for 10 minutes)
1 package of smoked salmon (sliced into strips) OR 1-2 cans tuna
1-2 avocado(s) (pitted, sliced and peeled)
1 package of cream cheese (sliced into thin strips. works better when cold)

DIRECTIONS:
After cooking rice lay the Bamboo sushi rolling mat on a cutting board with the bamboo stripes going horizontally from you. Put a layer of plastic wrap over both sides of the mat and seal the sides so there is easy clean up. Put the Nori down on the mat and plastic wrap. Spread a thin layer of white rice (3/4 to 1 cup) on the Nori leaving approximately one inch of uncovered Nori at each end. Arrange strips of smoked salmon (or spoonful of tuna along a line), avocado, cream cheese along the center of the rice.

Rolling Sushi Rolls:
Carefully bring the bottom end of the rolling mat and the plastic wrap up and over the ingredients (tucking the end of the Nori to start a roll). Pull back the rolling mat and plastic wrap, as necessary, so it does not get rolled into the sushi. Gently roll and squeeze the rolling mat around the sushi roll until it is firm and forms an even roll (be careful not to squeeze too hard, as you may crush the ingredients or squeeze them out). Continue rolling the sushi and pulling back the rolling mat and plastic wrap, as necessary, until you have approximately 1 to 2 inches of the top of the Nori showing. Rub a small amount of cold water on the edge of the Nori and bring the Nori around so that it completes the sushi roll. Press along edge of the Nori gently sealing the roll. Repeat until you have the amount of rolls you want or run out of rice!

Cutting Sushi Rolls:
Place rolls on a flat cutting board. Using a Sushi knife or a sharp knife, slice the sushi roll into 6 or 8 equal parts, whichever you prefer (wet the knife between each cut to make it easier to cut and keep the rice from sticking to the knife).

Serve:
Turn the cut sushi rolls on end and arrange on a serving platter or sushi plates. Serve with wasabi, soy sauce, pickled ginger and eat with chop sticks or your fingers :) Yum!!

Aveeno Baby Review

Aveeno products have been a favorite of mine for a while now. I love their lotions and their Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Lotion is my favorite because of the natural colloidal oatmeal blended in it with rich emollients to moisturize my skin. I was very happy to be introduced to the Aveeno Baby product line by BzzAgent.

Each Aveeno product contains Aveeno Active Naturals: natural oat infused with the power of science to keep your baby's skin and hair moisturized and healthy looking. Oats have a long history of being valued for skin care dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans who used oat baths to heal skin ailments. Aveeno uses finely milled (colloidal) oatmeal, that retain the naturally active benefits of oats which were clinically shown to moisturize and relieve dry skin.

I received a free pack to review of an 8 fl oz bottle of Aveeno Baby Lightly Scented Essential Moisture Shampoo and some smaller samples of Fragrance Free Soothing Relief Diaper Rash Cream. These two products are new in their product line.

The Aveeno Baby Lightly Scented Essential Moisture Shampoo was gentle on my daughter's skin and left her hair untangled, shiny and smooth. It is also a tear free formula so if it does accidentally get in your little one's eyes it won't sting. Essential Moisture Shampoo provides the benefits of natural wheat and oat essence combined with vitamin E to gently cleanse while conditioning baby's hair.

After bath time and before diapering Aveeno has its easy to apply Soothing Relief Diaper Rash Cream for combating diaper rash. The oat essence in the formula helps soothe - heal - and prevent diaper rash, willow herb gently calms and zinc oxide creates a long lasting protective barrier. It acts on contact and is fragrance free. We sure liked it a lot!

Children's Zyrtec Perfect Measure Allergy Medicine Review

ABOUT CHILDREN'S ZYRTEC PERFECT MEASURE ALLERGY MEDICINE:
Children's Zyrtec Perfect Measure Allergy Medicine is a children's indoor and outdoor allergy medication (oral solution antihistamine) for ages 6 years old and older. It provides temporary relief of sneezing, runny nose, ichy watery eyes, ichy throat or nose. It comes in 10 pre-filled individual spoons for a accurate measure. It comes in a new grape flavor! One box is priced at about $12.99. Go to the website to learn more and read about the uses, directions, warnings and ingredients of the product.

MY THOUGHTS:
My son Jaedan has allergies to a lot of things...mostly dust, dirt, dander, pet hair, pollen, and skin allergens. He was sneezing a lot and was complaining that his eyes were really ichy one day and so I got out the Children's Zyrtec Perfect Measure Allergy Medicine that I received for free as a spread the word Bzzcampaign from BzzAgent. I had trouble getting the packaging around the pre-measured spoon open without scizzors, but I had no problem with this because the spoon is not child resistant and is easily opened. I care more for safety than convenience. The pre-measured spoon has an easy to open twist off cap and was easily squeezed into my son's mouth. He really liked the grape flavor. He thought that it was a big improvement from his other allergy medicine that was cherry flavored. I loved the fact that it is a clear liquid so it won't stain clothing. It is supposed to work for 24 hours if you follow the directions on the box. Jaedan and I thought that it worked very well since he did not feel like sneezing shortly after he took it.

Softsoap Nutri Serums Nourishing Body Wash Review

Softsoap Nutri Serums Nourishing Body Wash is the first cleansing body wash that has softening and nourishing powers of serum pearls. The serum is nutrient rich to help your skin feel soft and look healthy. The body wash with the green serum pearls contain Vitamin E for restoring and protecting against contaminants that can cause damage to skin because as you age, Vitamin E production slows which leads to the breakdown of collagen and elastin (they keep your skin tight). The body wash with the purple serum pearls contain Omegas 3 & 6, which are essential fatty acids that are known to help preserve skin’s protective layer and maintain moisture for a youthful, hydrated glow.

BUY IT:
Available at all major grocery, drug and mass retailers like Walmart and Target. Suggested retail price is $3.50 - $4.50 for a 15 fl. oz. bottle.

MY THOUGHTS:
I have had very good results with the Softsoap brand and so when I was introduced by BzzAgent to the Nutri Serums I was thrilled to be able to try them out. I took these body washes into the shower with me and first tried the one with restoring Vitamin E. It smelled very similar to the Softsoap I am used to, fresh and clean. It made my skin feel soft. The next time I showered with the one with moisture retaining Omegas 3 & 6. I liked the smell of it a little better because it was a bit flowery, but not overpowering. My skin also felt very soft and smooth with this body wash and didn't feel as dry when I use regular soaps. However, the serum pearls of each body wash didn't dissolve on my skin as well as I would have hoped and a lot of them were wasted down the drain. All in all I liked the body wash. It didn't dry out my skin and had a very pleasant smell. My favorite is the purple one with the floral scent.

CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Review

Because I am a member of BzzAgent I received word of a BzzCampaign for CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain. I had never tried this product so I applied and received color number 415, Teasing Blush, in the mail.

This product from CoverGirl has a marker or pen applicator for your lips unlike regular tube lipsticks. It is water based so it shouldn't dry out your lips and doesn't feel heavy or look thick. It is supposed to last far longer than regular lipstick and isn't supposed to kiss or rub off onto anything. No leaving color on your teeth or cup.

Well, I was told that exfoliating your lips before using this product works better so you have more of an even application. It says to apply it to clean, dry lips. There are several methods I know to exfoliate lips. You could: use petroleum jelly and a wet washcloth, softly rub with a sugar scrub, manually exfoliate with a very soft toothbrush, or use a micro-exfoliating scrub made especially for the lips. When exfoliating lips it is best to start slow, rub gently, and then moisturize.

It was pretty simple to apply it correctly so it goes on smoothly. When using the Outlast Lipstain I found that putting a gloss over it made it shimmer instead of look flat. After drying fully (this does take some time and patience) it does seem to stay put. Although I had a bit of trouble with it if I licked my lips. If you lick your lips they have a raspberry-vanilla scent and flavor so they don't taste horrible. I have heard the applicator dries out easily and quickly, but if you store it like a pen or marker should be stored, tip down, then that problem should be solved.

All in all I liked the product and after thoroughly drying it stayed on for roughly 4 hours. I personally like to put a gloss or lip balm over it because it wasn't as moisturizing as I would have liked. It's suggested retail is $7.29 for one lipstain and they come in other colors that will compliment your skin tone.
