Wordless Wednesday Teela's Harry Potter Hogwarts Birthday Party

Teela turned 10 years old on the 15th of April & had a Harry Potter Hogwarts Themed Birthday Party the day before.

I dressed as Sybill Trelawney. I love cosplaying!

We had some great food & drink including Butter Beer and the 3rd Floor Corridor was off limits.

10 Great Pit Grilling Tips...

1. Check to make sure fire pits are permitted wherever you are before starting a fire.
2. Make sure the fire is properly enclosed by rocks, bricks or other flame-resistant material.
3. Use only dry, seasoned wood for cooking over a fire pit. Green wood will not burn well and produces too much smoke. Dead wood is better for a clean-burning, high-temperature fire. Using charcoal briquettes for your grill’s heat? Then light the coals about 30 minutes before cooking.
4. Want a great grill that is portable to take with you camping, fishing, etc., get Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill!
5. Keep a bucket of water nearby in case you need to put out the fire. Have a spray bottle full of water nearby your grill in cause of flare-ups.
6. Wash everything after handling raw meat, and don’t reuse the plate that you used for uncooked meat.
7. Experiment with different types of marinades, seasonings and rubs to give your food extra flavor. Marinade meat overnight for best results.
8. Use a spatula or tongs to move and flip your food. Keep high-heat resistant oven mitts or grilling gloves nearby to use if needed.
9. Before, in between and after cooking keep your grill grate clean with a long handled stiff wire brush.
10. Distinguish the fire when you are done with it. Use a small shovel to to stir/breakup the wood, coal and ash. Then sprinkle with water and continue to do this until no more steam rises and you hear no hissing steam. Let it sit for a good 10 minutes and "feel" (get close to the ash and coal, but not touching it) if there is any more heat coming from the fire with the back of your hand. If there is still some sprinkle with more water.

My Thoughts:
The Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill is a very handy lightweight, portable grill. I love that it has a bag to carry it with the gear to a campsite and since it doesn't weigh much it is perfect for taking backpacking. The assemblage of the whole thing is very straightforward. The post/pole comes in two pieces and screws together. I love that is is so adjustable and swings away from the fire so you can build the fire or load and unload food easier.

We noticed a few different things when using the Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill. It is made in China. We found that you will need a set of high-heat resistant oven mitts or grilling gloves to use because the screw mechanism to adjust it gets super hot sitting over the fire and you might need to adjust it more than once. You will also need some for swinging it away from the fire. Tongs also work great for this. The grill's post that is used to secure it in the ground will need pounded into the ground pointy end down by a good size rock or mallet. This post had a black coating that was flaking off when we received it. The grate does warp and get blackened a little while over the fire holding the food. The blackening is just smoke and will come off with a good washing. Since it does have only one post on one side of the grate, it does tend to shift and is not level when loaded with food to grill. Foods like corn on the cob or potatoes like to roll off if not positioned well on the grill surface.

I decided that I wanted to first use this on our farm over my fire pit to see how it performed before we took it camping. We made corn on the cob, bratwursts, and toast on it. If you have aluminum foil on hand you can also bake potatoes and fish, make S'mores, etc. It is super simple to clean even without a dishwasher and the nonstick grilling surface makes it wonderful to grill with without having food stuck to the grate; however we did try to grill a S'more straight on the grilling surface and it wouldn't come off until scraped with our grill brush, so better to use foil for some things, I guess. It did very well with most everything we grilled on it though and the smokey flavor was a wonderful departure from our traditional propane powered grill.

Just Jan's Fruit Spread JAMboree Party Review #justjans #tryazon #spreadthegoodness

Have you ever heard of Just Jan's Fruit Spreads? I hadn't until I got the opportunity to host a Tryazon Home Party. Her fruit spreads looked so delicious and so I signed up. This being my very first Tryazon Home Party I really didn't know what to expect. I have hosted other parties at home to show off various products though so I knew it would be fun as well. I prepared, sent invitations, and had the party on April 15th.

Just Jan's are a line of gourmet, all-natural, preservative-free fruit spreads that were started by Jan Hogrewe in 2012. So, why the fig in her logo? Well that was the very first batch of fruit spreads she made because a Kadota fig tree growing in her backyard had produced so much fruit. At first she made the fig spread for friends and family, but word got out, as it does and today Jan is making fruit spreads, jams, marmalades, and curds in 13 flavors, from sweet to savory, to spicy.

I followed the recipe for the Just Jan's Signature Meyer Lemon Curd Bars. I couldn't help myself though in making them look a little fancier. I took out my ornate dish which had floral designs in the glass and baked the crust, let it cool, spread the Just Jan's Meyer Lemon Curd mixture on top, and baked  the bars to perfection. I placed sliced lemons around the edge and sprinkled powdered sugar in the center, placing mint leaves from my garden as the final touch. These were so good! I will be making them again and maybe experiment with a different Just Jan's spread to top the crust next time just because I believe that others of her spreads would also be yummy as bars.

I had a selection of crackers for the guests to sample the spreads on. The Green Gift Pack of tiny jars which included,  Kadota Fig, Tangerine Marmalade, Meyer Lemon Curd, Muscadine Grape, Apricot, and Seedless Raspberry, went quick. My favorite was the small jar of Tangerine Marmalade since I absolutely love marmalade!  The Just Jan's Kadota Fig Spread was so yummy. I love it spread onto crackers and English muffins. I want to try the Fig and Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breasts with the spread. The recipe sounds divine! I would love to try the Just Jan's Pomegranate Spread, Just Jan's Mango Chipotle Savory Spread, and Apricot Pepper Savory Spread, but sadly those flavors didn't come in my party pack.

My #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate Party and a Chance to Win a Dream Walt Disney World Resort Vacation for Your Little Ones!

I was so worried that no one at all would show to our #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate Party that I scheduled on Saturday March 19, 2016. The schools out here were having Spring Break the week after and I didn't think that scheduling it on the 26th would be any better because of Easter being on the Sunday after. I was so nervous that no one would show up at all because of people being out of town for vacation to visit family and friends.

We had one little girl show! I am so happy someone did! My older son's best friend has a little sister, named Joey, that was invited by my girls and he saw the invitation when he was over at their house visiting his friend. He took it upon himself to email the family before the party and ask if she was coming. The parents I guess didn't put two and two together that it was us that was throwing the party. So, naturally after he asked they said yes. Thanks to my son, Jaedan, the party went on. We put up the decorations and prepared the food. Then we partied! We had so much fun showing our #DisneySide!

The food turned out to be a big hit. I made 24 Mickey Cone Cakes the night before to frost with chocolate icing and have two round dark chocolate melts put on the top like Mickey ears. These were quite fun to make and the kids enjoyed them too. I also provided a veggie tray with onion dip that I mixed up for something healthy. The Sofia's Seashell Mac and Cheese turned out well too. I also had Teela help make the Disney Peanut Butter & Jelly Pinwheel Skewers. Instead of Mickey dimensional stickers ours had Disney Fairies puffy stickers on them. To drink we purchased some Donald Duck orange juice and also had the Nestle Nesquik Chocolate Flavored Drink Powder that came in the kit to mix with milk if they wanted that instead.

We played some games and made a craft after we ate. We played the Pin the Smile On Mickey Game and
made puppets with the I Love To Create Live On Stage! Puppet Show Kit (paper bags, Disney Junior Puppet Print-Outs, Alene's Tacky Glue, 3 Tulip Puffy Confetti Glitter Paints). Although, everyone making one wanted to be Sofia the First, so the puppet show didn't really take off. Oh well.

The time came when our guest had to go home. I gave Joey her gift bag full of goodies to take home and remember the party by. I also handed out an HP Photo Card Pack to the parents that I had left over from an old #DisneySide party pack and told them about MyPrintly, a HP website where you can create DIY projects and print them to share. We also talked about Disney Parks and why we love them so much! They shared with me that Joey had gone to Disney World last year when she was 4 years old and she enjoyed it so much.

My daughter Zari didn't want the party to end and was sad. I promised her we would go outside and play on the play set and continue the celebration even though Joey had to go home. So we did and as soon as we got back inside I had Teela and Zari pick a Disney The Lion Guard Fake Tattoo and we placed them. We did a few more games together and called it a very successful day.

My Thoughts:
I love Camerons Stovetop Smoker! I've never had an indoor smoker and this makes smoking meat and veggies super easy. Since it is stainless steel it is simple to clean too! We received the smoker and the two samples of wood chips that came with it in the box were Hickory and Oak. I also got a larger tub of Alder wood chips separately. I decided to make an Alder Smoked Salmon according to the directions that came with the Stovetop Smoker and make it into a yummy dip or spread for crackers. I did find that the cooking time was about 55 minutes for a 2 pound fish instead of the 25 they suggest; although, my salmon was thick. I also added foil to the drip plate and sprayed the rack with olive oil for easier cleanup. My house smelled so good while the salmon was being smoked! Make sure you have your overhead stove vent on because it does smoke a little out the corners of the lid. This would be an easy, delicious side to make pre-game so that it can chill in the fridge prior to game day.

Alder Smoked Salmon Spread Recipe

• 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
• 12 ounces Alder smoked salmon, flaked
• 1 1/2 teaspoons dried dill
• 2 tablespoons chopped green onion
• 3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
• 3 drops hot pepper sauce
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice (about 1 medium lemon squeezed)

Whip the cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Place in fridge to chill about an hour. Serve with crackers.

Wordless Wednesday Happy 15th Birthday Delbin

Delbin turned 15 on September 5th and we threw him a pizza party at the park.

My #DisneySide @Home Celebration Party

We had our second #DisneySide @Home Celebration Party on February 21th, 2015. We planned and prepped and finally it was the day. We put up the decorations and prepared the food. Then we partied! We had so much fun showing our #DisneySide!

#DisneySide Costume Party. We have a lot of Disney Fairies and two Disney Princesses. Show me your Goofy Faces!

We had a #DisneySide Themed Valentine's costume party. We had some really adorable Disney Fairies show up, plus an Anna and Elsa. We love playing dress up! Each girl also brought Disney themed Valentine's Cards that we exchanged.

The first game we played was a "Pin The Smile on Minnie Mouse" Game. I made the detachable bow freehand last year from a piece of cardboard and paint I had lying around the house. This year they provided a large poster for "Pin the Smile" on Mickey Mouse, but we wanted to make it Minnie instead. I used the bow from last year and my son, Jaedan, painted on eyelashes with a black sharpie. This game was a guest favorite. The kids wanted to play to get their turn at pinning the smile on Minnie Mouse over and over again. I am so glad they liked it so much. Then we did a Disney Character word find/search.

#DisneySide Party Food and Drink.

We had some very yummy party food and drinks that I made for the celebration. I made the Duff Goldman Tie Dye Cake in the Wilton Mickey Mouse cake pan that was provided this year. We also made Mickey Mouse and Valentine's cutout sugar cookies to decorate with the frosting and sprinkles and displayed them on the cupcake stand that was provided. A veggie platter and pretzels to dip in onion dip made everything a little more healthy. I picked up some Donald Duck Orange Juice and some Disney Fairies and Princesses Fruit Snacks from the store to show our #DisneySide.

We had so much fun decorating the cutout sugar cookies! They were each sprinkled with love and pixie dust (sprinkles). The cookies turned out to be all Mickey Mousterpieces and even better to eat!

We also had a Disney Princess nail salon where we painted each girls nails. The parents that stayed helped with the nail salon. The little girls had a lot of fun picking out the colors they wanted and some even got alternating colors and fancy patterns.

While they waited for their nails to dry I handed out the last of the take home prizes and gift bags to the guests. I picked a name for the grand prize, the Disney Palace Pet, and made a little girls day because she had apparently never won anything before. I also told the parents about the HP Photo Card Packs and MyPrintly, a HP website where you can create DIY projects and print them to share. We also talked about Disney Parks and why we love them so much!

Here is the moment of truth. My #DisneySide @Home Celebration Kit made the journey to my home safely and the moment to unveil the contents has finally arrived! Are you as excited as I am!!?? My girls couldn't really contain themselves either.

As I opened the box I was overwhelmed at how much awesome stuff they threw in! My girls squealed in delight and jumped up and down. We are certainly going to put it all to good use in the party planning. I am so excited to use the cookie cutters! I have so many ideas to use them for. I can't wait for my party! It is going to be GRAND!

Birthday Express My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Party Review

We received this product free from Birthday/Celebrate Express to facilitate this review. 

April 15th was my daughter, Teela's, 6th birthday and I scheduled her party to be on the 26th. She wanted it to be My Little Pony Themed and so I arranged for Birthday Express to supply the party pack. We invited guests via Facebook events and homemade invitations that my daughter colored and drew herself.

Birthday Express My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Party Decorations

We set up everything the day of and it was perfect because I had arranged for the party to start at 3pm. I had the whole front half of the day to prepare and organize everything. The party table and decorations looked absolutely amazing! I didn't have helium, so I stuck the foil balloons on the sliding glass door with clear tape. We twisted three colors of crepe paper together for a tricolor effect and attached a different color balloon to each end and the middle. I hung the banner which was made of heavy vinyl above the window. I got to pick exactly what it would read and Birthday Express personalized it for me before it arrived. My son, Delbin, also made a small sign featuring the mane six's cutie marks to be placed over the switch for the fan so it wouldn't be a distraction for the kids at the party and he made a paper chain. I loved the cute centerpieces for the table and table cloth the most.

Birthday Express My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Party Favors

I loaded the guest's polka-dotted favor boxes with goodies that were supplied. The favors were awesome! I placed in each box a pink heart mirror, a pink brush, a rainbow ring, a rainbow star headband, candy necklaces, and a MLP blowout. I was very happy that the blowouts weren't noise makers. Then I decorated the boxes with the curling ribbon.

Teela's oldest brother Delbin was such a great sport and played along. He helped with the Unicorn Ring Toss game and pretended he was the unicorn with a pointed party hat we had left over from a previous party. I had these hoops that we used to try to loop over his "horn" :) The girls thought this was so much fun and lots of giggling was heard throughout.

Duck Duck Goose adaptation...Pony Pony Pegasus

The next game we played was a Duck Duck Goose adaptation we called Pony Pony Pegasus. We had the kids sit on the floor in a circle to play. The person who was "it" and the person they chose would run around the circle and try to take their seat. The person that got there first didn't have to be "it" the next time around. It held their attention for a while and then it was time for food.

Party Food

We had carrot cake squares with cream cheese frosting, strawberry shortcake, deviled eggs, finger sandwiches cut into heart shapes and a veggie/fruit platter with dip. We also had some apple juice for drinking. I know some of this isn't the most pony friendly food, but I did my best to cater to the masses ;)

We had Teela blow out her candles on her requested Strawberry Shortcake and sang her Happy Birthday Pinkie Pie style :) The food turned out to be a hit and was so yummy!

After the food was cleaned up and the left over put away, it was time for Teela to open her presents. She received some awesome stuff! We got her the Twilight Sparkle hooded towel. The dress she is wearing is from her Nonnie. She also got some really fun MLP, Disney Princess, Barbie, and LEGO stuff. I love the Butterfly hair clips too! Of course it isn't about the gifts...it is about friendships. This is why Friendship Is Magic!!

The guests had a lot of fun at the party and wanted to come back again. They loved the decorations, party food, and games. I was so glad they could join us and I want to thank them for making Teela's day so special.
