Devonian GREEMU: The Green, Cruelty Free Alternative to Emu Oil Review

GREEMU Oil and Certificate of Analysis.

I had the privilege of trying the Devonian GREEMU Distributed By Koru Naturals for this review to use in conjunction with my own beauty regimen. This is a Schoolhouse Review Crew Review. All opinions expressed are my own or those of my family.

Devonian is a fairly new company to the natural health and beauty world. Their science research based approach has brought one product, GREEMU, so far to their ever expanding line of plant based beauty products. Their primary focus is to replace animal products with ingredients derived from plants.

Koru Naturals is a company that brings natural bath and beauty products from New Zealand to the United States. These natural beauty products have ingredients like: Argan Oil, Emu Oil, Blue Tansy Oil, Manuka Oil, Manuka Honey, lanolin, Rotorua Mud, Rosehip Oil, Australian Sandalwood, Sheep Placenta, Bee Venom, French Clays, Shea Butter, Tea Tree Oil, and New Zealand Flowers. They have bath, beauty, candles, diffusers, and honey products. Koru Naturals is also a distributor of Devonian GREEMU.

Emu oil is extracted from the fat tissues of the Emu, an Australian flightless bird, during processing. Emu oil was prized for a hair and skin treatment for hundreds of years by Australian Aborigines and is one of the most popular oils used in the beauty industry. It has vitamins, minerals, and the essential fatty acids Omega 3 and 6. Since it is made from animal products; however, some people would rather use something more humane for their beauty regime.

GREEMU

GREEMU is a green alternative made entirely of a combination of plant oils and butters that can be a humane replacement for Emu Oil. It was created by Devonian after two years of research and simulates the look, feel, color, consistency and lipid composition of Grade A emu oil. GREEMU is made up of five ingredients: Macadamia Oil, Palm Oil Certified Organic, Shea Butter, Sunflower Seed Oil, and Rice Bran Oil. It, like its animal counterpart, protects and nourishes skin and hair from the elements. It improves appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also reduces dry hair and split ends.

How I Used This and My Thoughts:

I was excited to get GREEMU to try out because I had heard great things about the Emu Oil and this was a healthy substitute that was cruelty free. I am not vegan or vegetarian but using beauty products that are cruelty free does matter to me. I also love to use products that are 100% natural.

The directions for using GREEMU are simple and can be added to an everyday beauty regime easily. All you need is a couple drops at a time. I rubbed it gently in a circular motion onto my face and hands. Then I used a couple more drops and applied it from root to tip in my hair massaging my scalp as well with the oil.

So, what is the consistency, look, and texture of GREEMU? It is an opaque, slightly cream colored blend of oils. The beauty oil absorbs into the skin without any icky oily residue left behind. It also doesn't have a noticeable scent. It is smooth and liquidy.

My skin loved the stuff, soaked it up, and felt immeasurably softer to the touch after I applied it. I did read the label and it says to not use it if you are allergic to plant oils. I am somewhat sensitive to things and GREEMU did not break me out in any way. I even tried it on my face and it was very gentle. I love this plant based oil, especially for my hands as they are getting calloused and worn from all the gardening I have been doing. GREEMU makes my hands less rough. I did not have any problems with it. I loved that it seemed to make my flyaway hair more manageable and my split ends disappear. A little goes a long way for hair, though. Don't overdo it or your hair will just look greasy. With just a small drop of the oil my hair seemed shinier and healthier looking.

BUY IT
A 4 ounce bottle of GREEMU is $10.80 which is cheaper than the same size bottle of Emu Oil (over $18). You can get a 20% off discount if you enter the GN395Z10 coupon code upon purchase of GREEMU through Koru Naturals by May 31st, 2016.

Koru Naturals Review

My family had the privilege of trying the Koru Naturals products: Skin Clear Cream, Manuka Honey Propolis Soap, Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil Facial Cleanser & Manuka Honey, Tamarind and Manuka Oil Facial Toner for this review to use in conjunction with our own homeschool curriculum. This is a Schoolhouse Review Crew Review. All opinions expressed are my own or those of my family.

I got to try four of their products: Skin Clear Cream, Manuka Honey Propolis Soap, Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil Facial Cleanser & Manuka Honey, Tamarind and Manuka Oil Facial Toner. The NZ Fusion Botanicals product line of Koru Naturals contains no parabens, artificial colorants or fragrances. All these products use natural ingredients to protect the face and skin. They help solve skin problems and keep it looking healthy.

Skin Clear Cream is part of the NZ Fusion Botanicals product line of Koru Naturals. This skin cream is great for acne prone skin and blemishes. It's main ingredients are raw, unpasteurized Manuka Honey (rated at 20+) and pure steam-distilled East Cape Manuka Oil. For the 20th Anniversary of this product they have made a more advanced formula with some other ingredients added to those that have been present since the beginning. These include: Kawakawa and Harakeke, Burdock Root, Thyme, Canadian Aspen Bark, etc. A full list of ingredients is listed on their website. This skin cream has natural moisturizers and promotes skin elasticity as well.

Manuka Honey Propolis Soap is a 4.93 oz boxed bar of soap made with Manuka Honey and Propolis from the hives of bees. This beautiful golden colored bar has a bee shape stamped in it and is honey comb shaped. It is gentle on the skin, a natural moisturizer, and a skin protectant.

Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil Facial Cleanser Gel is part of the NZ Fusion Botanicals product line of Koru Naturals. This facial cleanser comes in a 4 fl.oz/120ml silver bottle with squirt pump. It has Aloe Vera Juice, Lavender, Manuka Honey, Manuka Oil, Pro-Vitamin B5, Vitamin E, and other ingredients that are all listed on their website. The combination of ingredients in this deep cleanser is gentle on acneic, oily, combination and sensitive skin. Use this before the toner and moisturizer.

Manuka Honey, Tamarind and Manuka Oil Facial Toner is is part of the NZ Fusion Botanicals product line of Koru Naturals. This facial toner comes in 4 fl.oz/118ml silver bottle with squirt pump (shown in the picture is the spray pump). This product has been improved with the addition of Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and Beta Carotene (Pro Vitamin A) for even more skin protection. A list of all ingredients is on their website. This works for people with acneic, oily, combination and sensitive skin. Perfect for conditioning skin after cleansing and before moisturizing.

How We Used This and Our Thoughts:

I love all of the products that I received from Koru Naturals. They all smell divine and do their job really well. I started using them from the time I received them and am still using these products on myself. The four products I received from Koru Naturals were majorly for my face, all except for the soap bar that I used all over to clean and moisturize my body. I also love that these four products all go very well together in a beauty routine.

I used the facial cleanser, facial toner, and cream products in my morning beauty routine. The first product you are supposed to use on your face is the Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil Facial Cleanser. It comes out of the pump as a gel and you are supposed to shake the bottle well before dispensing. Then you massage a small amount in an upwards circular motion with clean fingers or a cotton pad all over your face especially where problematic areas are, wait 2 minutes, and give your face a good rinse. This made my face tingle a little and I could feel it working. I only needed about two pumps of it to get my whole face covered. Next you put the Manuka Honey, Tamarind and Manuka Oil Facial Toner on by applying it all over the face and allowing it to dry completely. This product has a cooling sensation and also feels like it is tightening the skin slightly. This refreshes my skin and tones, or shrinks the pores; making it look younger, smoother, and fresher. Lastly I moisturized my face with the Skin Clear Cream. It comes in a handy container with a screw off lid, a plastic covering (to separate the spoon from the cream, and a small plastic spoon so that you can scoop it out without using your fingers. It needed stirred before use too because some of the honey had separated from the cream and it was so much easier to do this with the little spoon as well. The cream went on smoothly and didn't leave my face overly oily. It absorbed into my skin well and left my face feeling really smooth and soft. The Manuka Honey Propolis Soap is a wonderful honey glycerin bar with propolis from bees. The benefits of Manuka honey are great. Honey is anti-bacterial, antibiotic, and is said to repair tissue damage. My husband and I have used honey to treat burns and it works miraculously to heal the skin. Propolis is natures richest source of bioflavanoids which defend your skin against the damaging effects of stress, pollution, and even age itself. I love the cute packaging and appearance of this bar of soap. It suds well and leaves a wonderful fragrance behind, cleaning the skin and leaving it moisturized and silky smooth. These products are amazing and I will be getting them again once I am all out. I am also excited to try more Koru Naturals products in the upcoming years.

BUY IT
You can buy the Skin Clear Cream for $19.20, Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil Facial Cleanser for $13.60, Manuka Honey, Tamarind and Manuka Oil Facial Toner for $13.20, & Manuka Honey Propolis Soap for $7.90 on the Koru Naturals website.

Puffs Fresh Faces Review and FREE Sample

We received products free from Boogie Wipes and Puffs to facilitate this review.

Our family of 6 used to go through a tremendous amount of tissues. Every time we had colds or allergy issues which was quite often we would blow our noses until they hurt. Most of the tissues we used were not forgiving at all.

Enter Boogie Wipes for kids (well I admit, I used them too). These saline moistened wipes are great for icky snot and not irritating noses. Now there is something more grown up for me and my allergies too, Puffs Fresh Faces products.

About Puffs Fresh Faces from the Sponsor:
Little Busy Bodies, the makers of your favorite saline nose wipe for kids Boogie Wipes, has teamed up with Puffs to introduce a new generation of facial tissue. Saline has been used for centuries for both beauty and medicinal purposes, and Puffs® has captured its power in all new Puffs Fresh Faces, the first moist facial tissue designed for everything your face has to face each day.
Saline can be used to clean and soothe nasal cavities, dissolve mucus, refresh and moisturize skin, and reduce puffiness. Patented and uniquely formulated with saline, aloe and Vitamin E, Puffs Fresh Faces are designed to help you clean up anything the day can throw at your face. Whether you need to freshen up after a hard workout, remove runny makeup in the heat of the afternoon or soothe your allergy riddled nose, Puffs Fresh Faces in lavender, menthol and unscented get the job done better than a dry tissue.

Our Review:
We were given a Puffs Fresh Faces gift box full of product and things with the logo on them. It included a:
  • water bottle
  • tote bag
  • headband
  • pedometer
  • compact mirror
  • Puffs Fresh Faces (in Vicks, fresh scent, light lavender, and fragrance free)
I thought the Vicks and fragrance free ones were the best smelling. Of the floral scents I liked the lavender the best. Fresh scent was too over powering and made me sneeze...which sorta defeated the purpose of these in my opinion. The Vicks ones helped open my airways which was nice. I love that these are similar to Boogie Wipes in that they have natural saline infused in them so that they won't rub and irritate your nose. These are not only nose wipes, but are great at getting makeup and dirt off your face. They are to soothe, refresh, clean and comfort.

You can get FREE Puffs Fresh Faces samples to try these out yourself when you fill out the form and don't forget to check the box for getting some FREE Boogie Wipes samples too!

EcoMom Approved Products Review and $15 Giveaway

EcoMom is one of my favorite stores online. They sell an assortment of wonderful natural, organic, and healthy products that they have compiled and tested themselves to help parents make easy, practical and affordable healthy choices for their families. They partner with charities like Healthy Child Healthy World and team up with EcoMom experts in various fields of expertise to share their information for a healthier, more balanced, and sustainable planet and lifestyle for us all. Within their website they have a icon coded system to help you quickly evaluate which products work for your own family.

I was sent samples sizes of these EcoMom Approved Products for free from EcoMom to try out and review: Pangea Organics Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry Facial Mask, SmartyPants Gummy Vitamins, SKINKiND Microfine Face Scrub for Men, SKINKiND Travel Size Essential Moisture for Men.

I tried out the Pangea Organics Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry Facial Mask myself and enjoyed it regardless of the fact that I resembled the Creature from the Black Lagoon when I had it on! As you can tell from my facial the product isn't the most attractive color. It is kind of a muddy green and has a gritty texture that spreads on pretty thin and unevenly too, but I believe the good outweighs the bad for this product. My gritty mud monster face becomes radiant and smooth after washing it off. It doesn't seem to irritate my skin or leave my skin too dry. It also helps exfoliate because of the grit and instructions to rub it in circular motions with wet fingers before washing completely off. When taking it off be sure to use a warm to semi hot water on a washcloth that isn't white (this seems to stain and the granules like to stick in the cloth). It also has a very pleasant herbal, minty smell that rejuvenates my skin and perks me up when using it. I just think that it is more like a scrub than a mask. For the price of about $40 for a tube of 4 fluid ounces the price might be a bit steep for some, but the list of certified organic: essential oils, extracts and other ingredients in the Pangea Organics Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry Facial Mask are extensive (nothing artificial or synthetic in there) and worth every penny. So in a nutshell, to me, this is a heavenly nutrient-rich, all-natural, nature-derived feast for your face.

My kids got to try the SmartyPants Gummy Vitamins. They are an all-in-one multivitamin with eco-friendly non-tuna sourced DHA Omega 3's, Vitamin D, Choline & 12 other key nutrients. They are also gluten and casein free, have no high fructose corn syrup, and only have 5g of Organic cane sugar per serving (that is 80% LESS sugar than in a glass of unsweetened apple juice). I only had a small sample pack of 4 gummies and supposedly all 4 gummies in a daily supply. I am not sure why they couldn't have made just one gummy with all the vitamins instead of having to take 4 although the bottle of 120 then only will last 30 days. I like that they are made with natural flavors and colors from natural sources. Flavors include: lemon, orange, and cherry. These are great vitamins for kids that like gummies and don't like their veggies or fish. They don't taste fishy at all, are chewable, and my kids enjoyed them. They wished we had more. A bottle of 120 that lasts 30 days is about $19.95. Every time you buy a bottle of SmartyPants, they donate to Vitamin Angels so that 2 children most in need recieve a years worth of vital nutrients.

My husband got to try the SKINKiND Microfine Face Scrub for Men and the SKINKiND Travel Size Essential Moisture for Men. The SKINKiND Microfine Face Scrub for Men goes on before a shave and exfoliates the face to battle ingrown hairs and dead skin. I kinda wish they had this product or one similar for when I shave my legs too! This has Aloe Vera gel to cool the skin, natural Bamboo powder to exfoliate, Organic Blood Orange and Vitamin E to provide antioxidant protection to new skin that is unveiled, Cedarwood to tone and decrease acne, and Organic Cinnamon Leaf to bring oily skin back to normal. My husband commented that it has a slight fruity or citrus smell, but nothing overpowering. He said it was easy to apply but to him it felt very abrasive...like sandpaper. He didn't think that it was very pleasant on his face and thought that it wasn't microfine like they had called it. I tried a little on my face and I really didn't think that it was all that bad. He did notice that after his shave with his razor that his face felt pretty smooth and the face scrub did clean the pores and buff away the dead skin. A 100ml/3.4flOZ container of it costs about $29.00 at EcoMom. The SKINKiND Travel Size Essential Moisture for Men goes on after a shave to help moisturize, rejuvenate, and help with post shave irritation. Again this product would be wonderful for the woman after leg shaving. This has Organic Rosehip, Avocado and Jojoba oils to revive the skin; Sandalwood, Fragonia and Lavender as an anti-inflammatory and oil normalizer; Bergamot to control blemishes; and Vitamins A & E. My husband said this product smelled pleasant and has a slight fruity or citrus smell, but nothing overpowering. It was easy to apply and left his face softer than right after his shave. It didn't leave his face sticky or oily and he thought that his face liked the stuff better than the face scrub. A 1.7flOZ bottle of it costs about $18.00 at EcoMom.

Eucerin Everyday Protection Lotion Review

I received a 4 fl oz bottle of the Eucerin Everyday Protection Lotion for face with a SPF of 30 and a 13.5 fl oz bottle of the Eucerin Everyday Protection Lotion for body with a SPF of 15 for free from Eucerin to try out and review.

It is so important to take care of your skin. The need for skincare products that nourish and protect our skin so that our skin stays youthful looking and healthy is ever growing with the impact of UV radiation from the sun's rays. Recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation, Eucerin Everyday Protection Lotion is a wonderful product that helps protect the skin from this harmful exposure. It's ingredients of micro-fine zinc oxide and titanium dioxide provide blockage against UV causing skin damage. They are enriched with Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, to help protect from free radicals damaging the skin cells. It is fragrance-free, oil-free, non-irritating and won't clog pores.

I love these products! I only wish that the SPF were higher on both. I applied the face lotion on my face and was very happy with the feel. I did the same with the body lotion and applied it to exposed skin except for my face. Both were a little oily, but overall they went on smooth and felt good on my skin. As soon as I applied the lotions my skin felt very moisturized and it is proven to relieve dry skin for 24 hours. My skin felt healthier with these products on and I felt better knowing that my skin was being protected. My son, Jaedan, has such sensitive skin that I wanted to try these out on him also. He didn't have any break outs or skin irritations with these products.

The more sunburns as a child the higher the risk of getting skin cancer. That is why I feel it is so important to protect my kids from the damaging effects of the sun! You should apply sunscreens with at least 15 SPF and encourage your child to wear hats with brims and coverage. Some hats I have seen are also made out of UV protectant material which is a plus. Sunglasses that provide protection from UV radiation are also recommended, even for the very young child. Although many children may want to play outdoors wearing little clothing in the hot summer time, we as parents should encourage our children to keep as much skin area covered by clothing as possible. These guidelines are not only great for our kids, but we need to also take them into account for ourselves so that our skin can stay healthy and youthful.

Skin Free Review and Giveaway

Skin Free is a company that boasts that their skin care products: are all natural, have vegan ingredients, no perfumes, no petroleum products, no harmful chemicals, no steroids, no colorants, no greasy feeling, no animal testing, and are cruelty free. Their products are recommended for individuals with: extreme dry skin, skin or fragrance allergies, psoriasis, dermatitis, and / or eczema.

I love exfoliating scrubs and body butters so I picked their Skin Renewal System to test and review. It includes their Sweet & Smooth Sugar Scrub and their Whipped Tamanu Body Butter.

I tried the Sweet & Smooth Sugar Scrub first which was placed in a clear plastic bag for shipment. I was happy that this was done because it had leaked oil out of the container and into the bag instead of all over the box it came in. I decided to store it in the refrigerator because it looked like the contents were melting and separating. Once I decided to try it out it was a hot day and even though there was still an extra step to mix it together that it doesn't have in the directions it felt really good on my face. The chilled mix of sugar, olive oil, sweet almond oil, glycerin, and Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate (a preservative that is used in small quantities and so shouldn't irritate your skin) was invigorating. It polished my skin deep down smoothing away any imperfections and dull, dry skin. Besides the face it can be used on the rest of the body, especially the hands for an instant manicure and rough areas of the elbows or feet.

The Tamanu Body Butter has distilled spring water, shea butter, tamanu oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, emulsifying wax, stearic acid (a waxy solid made from vegetable fats and oils), essential oils of grapefruit and geranium, and Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate (a preservative that is used in small quantities and so shouldn't irritate your skin). It smells very distinctly of the geranium essential oil. So, if you don't like flowery smells or are allergic just take that into account. My son, Jaedan, is apparently allergic because when my husband and I tried the body butter he started sneezing nonstop until he left the room where we were. Regardless of that little setback my husband and I really liked the Tamanu Body Butter although maybe they could have had two varieties of Tamanu Body Butter...one with the geranium and one without. Tamanu is a plant that Polynesians prize for its healing and protective properties. The oil is used by them for everything from minor abrasions to severe sunburn and major skin infections. Tamanu oil has a unique fatty acid called calophyllic acid that stimulates cell growth. It also contains calophyllolide which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The Tamanu Body Butter felt very nice going on my skin and rubbed in well. It made my skin extra soft and it felt as though it was smoothing out my laugh lines on my face.

I felt as though I was at a spa having a relaxing treatment done when using these products!

Skin Free is having a Buy One Get One (BOGO) free promotion with select Walgreens and CVS stores! Buy product at select Walgreens or CVS & Skin Free will send you a free product.

My Manga Family

Here is from left to right...My husband: Brian a.k.a. Afalina, My oldest son (who is currently 8): Delbin a.k.a. squeaker, Me a.k.a. Crystal or Finamoon, My oldest daughter (who is currently 5): Tatiana a.k.a. Tati or Boo, My youngest daughter (who is currently 11 months): Teela a.k.a. Tee or Na, My youngest son (who is currently 6): Jaedan a.k.a. Bug.

I had fun making this of my family. I had to improvise a little bit because they didn't have any really young kids to work with in the program I was using called Face Your Manga. I used the collage feature on Picasa to do this picture.
