Gardening with Little Miss Greenfingers: Growing Culinary Herbs In Containers by Anja Koch Ebook Review

Did you know that May 5th 2012 is Herb Day? What better way to celebrate than to plant and grow some culinary herbs in some containers for your kitchen or outdoor area!  'Gardening With Little Miss Greenfingers: Growing Culinary Herbs In Containers - Healthy & Delicious!' by Anja Koch is just the ebook to give you the perfect amount of information you need to do this in an easy and affordable way.

This ebook is the first of a series called 'Gardening With Little Miss Greenfingers' by Anja Koch. It covers all aspects of growing culinary herbs in containers indoors and outdoors. It contains all the information needed for growing herbs including: where to grow your herbs, stuff you need for container herb gardening, growing herbs from seed, culinary herbs suitable for container growing, how to look after your herbs, dealing with pests and diseases, harvesting and preserving herbs, make your herb garden attractive, annual herbs, perennial herbs. Seventeen popular culinary herbs are described in detail with growing instructions and tips for cooking and preserving. The ebook has a total of 85 pages.

I found this ebook very informative and useful for anyone who wants to grow herbs in containers. This ebook is great especially for the person who wants a kitchen window, patio, deck, balcony, or rooftop container garden. Perfect for those of us that are renting and cannot have our own backyard garden or haven't the space to do anything else. It also gives you ideas on how to make the most of small spaces.

My children love to garden and gardening is a great homeschool teaching tool too. I had my boys read this ebook too because they love to learn and I thought it was the perfect thing for them to get to know more about so we could start our own kitchen herb garden together. I also love to cook with fresh herbs and so having them on hand to give that recipe perfection right in my kitchen is fabulous for me! I just wish I had an awesome garden or greenhouse window in my kitchen to place them in like I did when I lived in Reedsport, Oregon...maybe in my future home.

I also love the fact that this ebook goes into storing and preserving the surplus herbs that you grow so that you can have them on hand year round. I would love to have a pantry full of herbs and other plants/flowers hanging in tied bundles upside-down to dry or preserved in jars of oil or vinegar. I also love the idea of ice cubed herbs to throw in soups, dishes, or beverages. I had never heard of salt preserving before and this was also quite interesting.

I also learned a lot about pest and disease control and a little secret about milk I didn't know. Pests and disease can be a nuisance to gardening and this ebook helps you defeat them.

Anja goes into even more detail with the individual herbs that she talks about. I just wish that all of the pictures were showing up in the ebook PDF version I received to download (there were blank spots where pictures should have been, but no picture). Regardless of that small oversight this ebook has a lot of really good information in it. I have never tried chervil and cress so these are going to be very interesting to try out in containers and to also cook with. I am really excited to get going planting, sowing and growing seeds. This was the perfect guide and ebook for adding to my Spring Gift Guide!

BUY IT:
Purchase this ebook in PDF file format from Little Miss Greenfingers at $14.95 or from Amazon.com in Kindle format for only $2.99!!

DISCLOSURE/DISCLAIMER: I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Whimsey Kids and My Whimsical Creations Boutique Review and Giveaway

My daughter Teela turned 4 officially on April 15th, 2012. I wanted her party day, April 28th, to be special. Teela had picked a Princess and Pony theme for her party this year. My mom (her Babu, short for Babushka) got her a princess crown, wand, and ring to go with the party dress she would be wearing and made her a special carrot cake with cream cheese filling for her birthday cake. I made all the arrangements for getting the announcement out for the event on Facebook since all my friends that had little girls semi close to me were on there. I also bought a cute cake topper for her cake with 4 Disney Princesses and a castle that opened up as a carrying case to house them after the cake was gone. My boys helped me decorate and planned their own puppet show to put on for the guests. We had a few glitches during the party, but all in all I believe it was a success. Teela loved all her gifts she received and had a lot of fun with her friends doing games, dressing up, and watching Disney's Tangled.

The icing on the cake crown jewel was her party dress! Handcrafted by Whimsey Kids (My Whimsical Creations Boutique) this dress was custom made with my specifications and my daughter's measurements. I got a knotted dress with a fairly long skirt so that Teela has a bunch of room to grow in it still. I picked out: the style of dress, the material from Whimsey Kids' fabric stash, what size it should be and what my daughter would love handpainted on the front. Whimsey Kids did all the rest! She was so great to work with! She sewed the dress and added really cute embellishments. I love the ruffle on the top front of the bodice, the white ribbon bow, and the ties in back to make a bow that she added to it. My daughter requested Whimsey Kids paint a pony so she painted Strawberry Shortcake's horse, Honey Pie on the front. Honey Pie looks a bit like our mini pony, Gizmo. Whimsey Kids is so amazingly talented! She handpaints all these characters herself! Go to her website and see what she has done to get ideas. Teela's dress turned out gorgeous! I am very thankful to Whimsey Kids because Teela was definitely the belle of the ball and this dress is awesome for Spring!

Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler Review and Giveaway

The Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler attaches to the inside of a cabinet door to collect recyclables out of sight and keeps your counters clear. The bag is durable, machine washable, and made of recycled material. Collect your recyclables and then easily lift the bag from the lid and cabinet by the handle to take them out to your recycle bin.
  • Hinged lid attaches easily to cabinet door with over the door hooks or screws
  • Bag has wipe-able leak-proof liner and is machine washable for easy cleanup after possible spills inside
  • Bag is soft-sided allowing for flexibility inside any cabinet
  • Bag is made from 65% post-consumer resin, meaning it is recyclable too
  • Packaging is made from recyclable material, making it very earth friendly
  • Convenient handle for transport to larger receptacle for recycle pick-up
  • 5 gallon bag holds 36 uncrushed 12-ounce cans and is large enough to fit 1 gallon milk jugs
  • Great for single stream recyclers
  • Great for apartment living
My Thoughts:
Last year I found out that our city does pick up recycling, but unfortunately here it isn't highly advertised about because the city doesn't want to pay more for it than they think necessary. We only get one day each month to put out recyclables for them to come and pick them up and so as you can imagine it piles up quickly, especially for my family of 6. A lot of people in my neighborhood don't know about this service my city provides or just don't do it because of the inconvenience. I do it every month now and I hope that the city changes so that it is picked up more often and so that more people know about it.

I received the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler from Rubbermaid to try out for free and review on my blog. I thought this was a great product to add to my Spring Gift Guide as it is very eco-friendly and it is for recyclables. It was fairly easy to put together and I tried it with the only cabinet that I thought would work with it, my kitchen sink cabinet since it is an open cabinet with no shelves in the way for the bag. I found, however; that when installing the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler with the over the door hooks and then shutting the cabinet door, the lid to the recycler hit the side of the bottom of my sink. So, for my cabinet it didn't really fit well inside, but my sink isn't original to the house and has a larger basin than the old one had, so I think that plays into it a little. I could still install it with the screws though and it would fit, however; I don't really like the idea of putting more holes in my cabinet door even though they are not the nicest cabinets and the place where the screws go in on the product is made of plastic and looks a bit like it might break if I did. With the screws I would still have to install the whole product a lot lower than it says to in the instructions and the screws are a little long so they would go through my thin cabinet doors also. If Rubbermaid made the hook's length to be adjustable that would make it a whole lot better in my opinion.

Otherwise the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler is a very good product and is great for recyclables. I placed mine on the outside of one of my cabinets because it wouldn't fit any where else...so not very hidden, but it is attractive so I don't mind looking at it. I also love the strap on the bottom of the back of the bag to help tip it over to dump out the stuff into the recycle bin outside. It is space-efficient if placed out of the way, compact, durable, washable, and easy to use.

Other uses you can use the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler for:
  • In the kitchen to store dirty kitchen linens before they go to the wash.
  • In the laundry room for your unmentionables or delicates and/or hand wash only items.
  • In the kitchen to store plastic grocery or shopping bags in so they can be reused.

Smart Mom Malachite and Green Teething Bling Review and Gift Set Rafflecopter Giveaway

Earth Day and Mother's Day are just around the corner and I believe that Smart Mom Teething Bling are wonderful gifts for moms with little ones still teething. I also believe that the jewelry are also great for girls after that teething point too, not just moms. My almost 4 year old daughter also loves to wear my Teething Bling and I let her because I know it is safe. I also know that it is safe for my one year old daughter Zari to chew on and tug on. The pendants have a clasp that when tugged on will pop open without harm to the jewelry or the person wearing it and both the pendants and bangles are made of plastic that is food-safe, non-toxic, phthalate, BPA, latex, lead, and PVC free. They are also dishwasher-friendly.

I was sent the Malachite and Green Teething Bling Gift Set to review for my Spring Gift Guide and this set is absolutely gorgeous! The Malachite and Green Teething Bling Gift Set comes with the Malachite Pendant, the Peridot Bangle, and the Yellow Green Bangle. You can definitely get your GREEN on for Earth Day with this set! I love how the above picture turned out of my daughter Zari and I. My 9 year old son, Jaedan, took it while we lounged in the sun and the shade of my Magnolia tree. I thought it was a gorgeous spot because the white Magnolia petals were falling all around the tree, but the ground was a bit damp still from the morning dew and so I placed my husband's camouflage poncho liner beneath us to sit upon.

BUY IT:
All of the Smart Mom Jewelry would be a wonderful gift this Spring for a mom to a small one or a mother to be. Teething/Teen Bling Pendants cost $15.99-$23.99, Bangles cost $12.99 individually. You can even design your own gift set of either 3 bangles ($28.75) of your choice or one pendant and two bangles ($34.00) of your choice.

WIN IT:
Prize: Win a Gift Set of winners choice.

FunBites Review and Rafflecopter Giveaway

Easter is coming up and I remember when my mother made Easter Bunny Salads for my sisters and I. They had halved canned pears for their bodies, raisins for eyes and nose, sliced baby carrots or almonds for ears, and a cottage cheese tail. My mother placed them on a bed of lettuce or spinach and we ate them up because they were fun to look at and eat. If it weren't so cute we probably wouldn't have eaten the greens out from under them, but then again we were pretending to be bunnies too :) My mother succeeded to make meal time fun so that we would enjoy it and eat our food.

FunBites are perfect for picky eaters and to add even more fun to Bento Box Lunches or Muffin Tin Meals. It is an awesome kitchen tool that cuts kids' food into fun bite-sized shapes.  Now available in two sets: Cube It! creates bite-sized squares and Luv It! makes a big heart and two smaller hearts from geometric shapes. Works great on any kids food from pancakes and sandwiches to burgers and cake! Made in the USA, BPA free, dishwasher safe and mom invented. These are great for kids and parents and wonderful for Easter baskets :)

Bento Boxed Lunches and Muffin Tin Meals are all the rage these days. Actually Bento has been around in Japan for centuries, but now has become more popular in the United States. They are meals put together in a fun and aesthetic way that are placed in containers for convenience. Kyaraben or charaben (character bento) is a whole form of elaborately arranged bento which features food decorated to look like people, characters from popular media, animals, and plants. Muffin Tin Meals use muffin tins as the container. There are so many ways to arrange the food to make fun pictures of things or just make it pleasing to look at. I have pinned some awesome Bento ideas on Pinterest to help inspire you.

I received Luv It! free to test out and review. My kids love Luv It! and so do I. It is so simple to use and you can use it on a number of foods. As you can see above I just stuck with the basic heart shape that the Luv It! popped out, but don't you just stop there! You can also rearrange the shapes to create new designs. Be creative!

Try it on: Omelets, Melons, Strawberries, Apples, Pears, Kiwi Fruits, Grilled Cheese, Deli Sandwiches, Quesedillas, Burgers, Pancakes, Waffles, Tofu, Cheese, Pizza, Fruit Leather, Deli Meats, Brownies, etc. You can also use Cube It! to make your own croutons.

Of note when making sandwiches, I did find that when using spread or sauce (like: jelly, jam, peanut butter, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, etc.) you have to be careful not to use too much. If the sandwich has other ingredients besides the spread you can place the spread or sauce in the middle of those instead of directly on the bread. Otherwise it will make the bread mushy or gush out of it when you use the FunBites. Also, toasted bread works better for sandwiches.

I would love to see a flower shaped cutter from FunBites someday :) For now they have Cube It! and Luv It!

BUY IT:
Both Cube It! and Luv It! you can buy individually for $12.99. You can get both for $22.00.

Foxgloves PDX Fingerless Gloves Review and Rafflecopter Giveaway

foxgloves |ˈfäksˌgləv|
noun
 (1) fabulous fingerless gloves created in Portland, Oregon. (2) tall leafy Eurasian biennial with spectacular clusters of tubular pink-purple flowers.

Portland, Oregon is like a second home to me. I live in Rainier, Oregon but I love Portland because of the people and atmosphere. Portland is a huge mecca for the artistic. They have a lot of great museums, galleries, a zoo, live concerts, arboretum and botanic gardens, theaters, cinemas, shops, etc. that I love to visit. The people of Portland have their own flavor of style. I love a lot of it, especially the clothing and accessories. One of my favorites I have just found is Foxgloves PDX Fingerless Gloves!

Foxgloves are fun and fashionable fingerless gloves, handmade in Portland, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest. They are available in a variety of colors and patterns, and fashioned from comfortable stretch fabrics (like dancewear, activewear, mesh, knit and jersey). They come in different cuts: elbow length and shorties (wristlets). They are available in adult and child sizes. They are also available in two styles: Thumb style, across the top of the hand, with an opening for the thumb or Finger-style, a v-cut over the back of the hand, with an opening for the middle finger.

Foxgloves PDX have awesome customer service! When I asked if I could review some Foxgloves in their Maroon Gold Knit because I didn't think that I would like the Black & White Striped ones, they were awesome and cut some of their long gloves they hadn't yet sold down to a shortie style and made me up some special in their new latest version of the gloves, which includes a reinforced thumb opening rather than just a cut slit for the thumb (which is the way they used to make all their gloves). They even sent me a pair of their new line of Black & White Stripes also in the shortie style and with reinforced thumb so that I may see the difference in how the stitching lays on the fabric.

I actually came to fall in love with both pairs of gloves and loved how both looked on me. The Maroon Gold Knit ones have this gorgeous raised burgundy maroon flower pattern with gold threading throughout. They are made of such a lovely lacy stretch fabric. Great on days when I want to add some flair to an outfit. The Black & White Stripes are classic. They remind me of zebra stripes or what a sailor would wear :) These are most definitely going in my Spring Gift Guide and the Rose lace ones are going on my Birthday wishlist (My Birthday is May 10th, hint hint!).

BUY IT:
Shortie (wristlet) gloves are $14, Standard length (elbow length) gloves are $15.

You can get FREE shipping if you enter the giveaway below. Just mention that you read about Foxgloves on Eccentric Eclectic Woman blog in their 'Add Special Instructions to the Seller' section whenever you order from the Foxgloves website, and they'll refund your shipping fee.

Icebox Knitting XOB Upcycled Knit Cap Review

In the spirit of Spring which officially starts March 20th and Earth Day which is April 22nd I am featuring Icebox Knitting and their XOB Upcycled creations on my Spring Gift Guide this year. "Xob Upcycled hats and accessories (say Zob) employs this concept: upcycle what you've got and create fun!" They upcycle thousands of wool sweaters and suit jackets to make new things. They stitch together the useable pieces and accent them with boucle’ yarn turning them into new products and then recycle the rest of the textiles. This process is very earth friendly and the end product is unique and beautiful. They have hats, caps, arm warmers, hand warmers, mittens, headbands, scarves, pillows, sweater monkeys, stockings, blankets, and bags. They are available in the color options: blue/green, brown/tan, black/grey, or brights. Fabric patterns vary and are one-of-a-kind.

Icebox Knitting sent me a Knit Cap to review and my son, Jaedan, loved it! The one we received is in great gender neutral colors for both him and I to wear it. Although, I probably would have got one in pinks and purples like the other one in the picture above if I were buying one for myself. The cap is warm to wear in the brisk air and very well made. They make so many other different hats too not just this kind. I also love their Xobomber hats and their Pom hats too.

DISCLOSURE/DISCLAIMER: Thanks to ChicExecs, a company which was created to promote small business campaigns, I was able to let you know about this product. Icebox Knitting provided me with the product for free to try and review. My thoughts are mine and my family's own opinion and have not been altered by anyone else. GAIAM Fit Body Yoga DVD Review and Giveaway

GAIAM is a favorite place of mine to shop online. I love their home, fair trade, gifts, and clearance section the most. The GAIAM philosophy I want to be my own. The Earth is a living entity and we have to show respect to it and to ourselves. I love healthy living and being Eco-friendly. Doing so is an integral part of our survival as a species. This is why I am including GAIAM in my Spring Gift Guide this year. They have a lot of products in their store that are green and fair trade.

I love Yoga. Even though I am not Hindu I love the tranquility of Yoga. It helps me clear my mind of all the worldly junk and meditate on things I need to focus on. I love that after practicing Yoga I feel energized and refreshed. It is so uplifting.

GAIAM let me review one of their newer Yoga DVDs called Fit Body Yoga featuring Gwen Lawrence. It has three 20-minute workouts; 60 minutes total in one DVD: “Lower Body Tone” increases flexibility in the hips and legs while toning thighs and glutes (20 minutes), “Upper Body Blast” opens and elongates shoulders and arms while sculpting the upper body (20 minutes), “Core Definition” tightens and tones the core while strengthening the back (20 minutes). The Upper Body Blast workout I need so desperately. Like the majority of other women I have very little arm strength. This along with the core workout I am going to do more often because after having 5 children my abs need tightened too. This 60-minute workout definitely had me aching afterwards although I haven't done a total body workout in a while. It also includes a bonus 10-minute “Express Toning” workout which exercises all the major muscle groups so you can get your Yoga in even when you are in a hurry to get out the door. Just make sure you are ready to work up a sweat and be a little sore because this is jam packed with a lot of Yoga moves in a short amount of time!

Gwen Lawrence is a celebrity Yoga coach, massage therapist, and practicing fitness professional. She knows her anatomy and body functions well and it shows because there are not a lot of moves that get you into some kind of pretzel that you barley can get into let alone get out of. Gwen is a very good instructor and is down to earth. She combines body-sculpting yoga practices with cutting-edge training techniques. The music in the background of the DVD is relaxing and the production is high quality. The three 20-minute workouts are great by themselves or together for the full body experience. This workout made me feel really great at the end of the whole 60 minutes. It has a great potential of strengthening, toning, and stretching my muscles so I can attain more flexibility and strength. I felt like it was working already. I am really excited to use this DVD more to sculpt, strengthen, and flex my body to its full capability.

For Small Hands Trees and Wildflowers Fandex Review and Giveaway

Spring is coming next month...it might be hard to think about when right now some of you are having weather that is bringing you snow and others like me are having crazy hail storms and cold rain.

I am having a Spring Gift Guide (for Arbor Day, Easter, Earth Day, May Day, and Mother's Day) this year and to kick it off I have some awesome products from For Small Hands, a Montessori store for children's things that is owned by Montessori Services. For Small Hands has Montessori type hands on products that are child-sized and are for home use. They make it easy for children to explore their environments and themselves.

The products I am reviewing from them are very fitting in my Spring Themed Gift Guide because they are all about trees, which is awesome for Arbor Day and Earth Day, and wildflowers, which is great for Spring, Easter, and May Day! Both the Trees and Wildflowers Fandex have 47 cards for different North American species linked together with a small button at the bottom corner and they look very much like a fan when opened out to see the cards, hence the name "Fandex". Even though they are made of sturdy coated card stock I am worried that the die-cut tops are going to get all bent up after use. These are still awesome field guides to trees and wildflowers! They are great for homeschooling, hikes, wildlife trails, nature walks, and field botany excursions.

The Tree Fandex (item number: SC772) feature die-cut full-color photos of the leaf and bark of the featured tree on the tops of the cards. Below this is general information about the tree, keys to identification, height, shape, habitat, range, Latin name, life cycle, and more. Has identification by leaf, bark, and seed and information on the tree's place in history and culture. Great for exploring trees in your forests, neighborhood, or own backyard!

The Wildflowers Fandex (item number: SC774) feature die-cut full-color photos of the flower of the featured wildflower on the tops of the cards. Below this is general information about the wildflower, keys to identification, habitat, range, Latin name, life cycle, and more. Has information on how they grow, healing powers, folklore, and use in the garden. It is a genuine bouquet of knowledge!
