Artsy Olive Personalized Framed Art Print Review and Giveaway

I received this art free to facilitate this review.

Artsy Olive is a online shop where you can get custom, lovely art pieces for your home. These come in different sizes, prints, and you can choose different frames (black, white, oak) or none at all. They have a great selection of fun art and inspiring quotes to choose from as well. There is something for everyone and every room in the house.

Here is how it works:
  1. choose a background
  2. personalize
  3. choose a frame
  4. checkout

What I Thought:

We got to choose a customized 7.7" x 7.7" framed art print. The process of ordering was quick and easy after I selected what print I wanted. I selected the Rooster Kitchen print, personalized it with The Abels' Kitchen and the phrase "In This Kitchen Love is Homemade and Generously Shared", choose a black frame, and checked out. This was so simple and painless.

Even though I unwrapped it some I wanted to show the plastic and cardboard protecting it while it was shipped.

I received it in the mail super fast. The box was filled with packing peanuts that I really don't care for, but it came to me in good condition. It was wrapped in clear plastic and the corners were protected with cardboard pieces. It also came with hanging hardware as well.

Rooster Kitchen print framed in black and personalized for my home.

I love the art of the very colorful rooster. It matches my kitchen very well. I initially thought it might do well hung above my sink in my kitchen, but I think now I might want to find a better place to display it because there is no waterproof protection, like glass or clear plastic over the print and I do not want it ruined. The Rooster Kitchen print also comes in the 13.7" x 13.7" size.

Artsy Olive Rooster Kitchen print hung in my Kitchen.

Arsty Olive is a great company to get lovely and personalized art from. I recommend them highly. These would be wonderful gifts for the holidays!

My family had the privilege of trying the Pro Plan of HelpTeaching.com for this review to use in conjunction with our own homeschool curriculum. This is a Schoolhouse Review Crew Review. All opinions expressed are my own or those of my family.

They also have Math Worksheet Generators, Printable Game Generators, and Test Maker. They offer content for Pre-K through 12th grade.

HelpTeaching.com Test Maker

HelpTeaching.com Pro Plan is a very affordable option and gives you access to many great features. The price for a Pro Plan membership for teachers and parents is only $24.95 (U.S. Dollars) per year which gives you access to all grade levels. You can create up to 500 student profiles with the Pro Plan and have unlimited access to Test Maker, to create custom tests and worksheets. You can create them with multiple choice, true or false,  fill-in-the-blank, open-ended, or short answer. You can create the tests and worksheets with up to 100 questions and have images in them as well. You can select from their vast library of 1000+ images or upload your own. You can save the custom tests and worksheets as PDFs and have the ability to print them as well. Pro Plan also includes access to the HelpTeaching.com Test Room which lets you administer online tests and lessons. You also have access to premium pre-made content in the subjects above. Their library has over 20,000 Common Core State Standards (CCSS)-aligned questions by standard that you are able to browse and search with Pro Plan. HelpTeaching.com Pro Plan has all these great features for this affordable price.

HelpTeaching.com Tests & Worksheets.

How We Used This and Our Thoughts:

Since TOS wanted this review of the HelpTeaching.com Pro Plan to focus on the older materials I had my boys who are in 8th and 9th grades use it 3 days a week on average since we got signed up. The middle school and high school sections of HelpTeaching.com focuses on language arts, math, and science. Besides math, ELA, and science we also found tests and worksheets for other subjects too. All printables are listed by grade and subject so they are easy to find. We found a lot of content that went well with what they were already being taught and enhanced their learning even more with media and hands on learning. We were a little disappointed that the Math and English are Common Core Based though.

HelpTeaching.com Online Self-Paced Lessons.

The middle school and high school lessons are meant for self-directed online learning and are set up similarly throughout all subjects. You can easily assign lessons to your student(s) by emailing them. All you do is choose the lesson you want your student to learn, click on the Assign tab or the Share Link tab at the top and follow the instructions. Each lesson starts out with a short introduction. Some contain embedded videos from different sources. They also contain links to other free online resources to help explain the lesson better, online practice questions, and printable worksheets and tests. You can also see which students have taken the lesson if you click the Report tab at the top (of note you do have to set up your individual students through the Online Testing tab first to see this correctly). I love the ability to be able to have my boys work online or have the option of also printing out the worksheets, quizzes, and tests as well.

Since my sons and I are very visual learners we love videos and images that amplify this. We absolutely loved that a lot of the lessons on HelpTeaching.com have embedded videos to help visualize better what is being taught. These videos come from reputable sources like: Khan Academy, Educator.com, Flocabulary.com, Grammar Bytes, and Bozeman Science. They also have original videos from HelpTeaching.com too. If the lesson has media from these sources they have icons for each that easily tells you that they do and from where they come from. Also if they don't have videos the lessons sometimes have images to help visualize too. If you do follow a link off the site just be aware that there might be 3rd party ads.

I do want to point out that HelpTeaching.com doesn't host a complete curriculum of subject matter on their website, so it should primarily be used for supplemental content only. They are, however, adding new content regularly. We hope they add a History section soon to the lessons and more science! Also, you can create your own content through the Pro Plan as well which is a big plus if you don't see what you are looking for already.

Delbin doing a Biology Lesson on Fungi.

My son, Delbin, who is in 9th grade is in Biology right now so even though these lessons are listed for 10th and 11th grade we found them perfect for supplemental learning to go along with what we are teaching him. We didn't find much listed in the 9th grade section, but 10th and 11th grade stuff was more abundant. He loved playing the BioGames and watching the videos. We had him go from the beginning for review and online science practice. We found that their curriculum for Biology is fairly complete.

Jaedan doing a Earth Science Lesson on Igneous Rock.

My son, Jaedan, who is in 8th grade is in Earth Science. He loved the lessons on Erosion, Layers of the Atmosphere, etc. He especially loved the videos and virtual labs that were included with the lessons. There were a lot of interactive things to make the lessons more fun. We also let him go onto 9th grade lessons in Earth Science too because he advanced quickly through the 8th grade lessons.

HelpTeaching.com is great for online math, ELA, and science practice or use for supplement. They have a great selection of middle school and high school lessons, tests, and assessments. We enjoyed using HelpTeaching.com and will continue to explore its growing content.

BUY IT

Itty Wigs Baby and Toddler Headbands Review

I received these products for free to facilitate this review.

Itty Wigs are whimsical headbands for babies or toddlers with yarn pigtails and bows attached. The crochet headband is made from a stretchy ribbon material so it expands to fit the wearers head comfortably. The yarn pigtails are curly in ringlets that sit atop the head. These headbands are fun and fashionable for little girls with or without hair. These are sure to get a smile and a giggle out of passersby.

We received the Tooti Fruitti "Hair" with hot pink bows and a pink band & the Cinnabrown "Hair" with light pink bows and a white band. My youngest daughter, Zari, has a lot of hair for a 2 year old, but all my kids did at that age. We placed her hair in a ponytail in the back so we could showcase the hair accessories in the pictures, but these also look good with her hair down in my opinion. I really loved the look of the Tooti Fruitti "Hair" one the most on her, but I am really glad we got to try both. The Tooti Fruitti "Hair" is a combination of pinks, blues and sandy blonde colored yarn. I love this color combination! It was especially cute against the hot pink bows and pink headband. The Cinnabrown "Hair" has a cinnamon colored yarn with some lighter browns, dark browns and reds in it. My Zari likes to also wear hers when playing dress up and pretend. They are both adorable!

I've seen these mostly in pictures on babies and younger toddlers, but I think they look just as adorable on my little girl. Also I want to mention that I had another idea for these. Many little girls with cancer loose their hair because of radiation therapy or chemo and I thought these headbands would be adorable on them as well.

Itty Wigs has other colors to choose from too. They currently have Light Blonde, Medium Blonde, Tooti Fruitti, Cinnabrown and Midnight for the yarn (faux hair or fake hair) colors . Headband sizes come in infant to toddler & child to adult. The Headbands come in pink, white or black, but can be made custom in other colors as well.  You can also specify the color of the bows that come with these and have them attached permanently or with clips so as to be able the wear them separately. You can also choose bows that are multi colored like: camo, patriotic (red, white and blue), or zebra stripe. They also have flower ones instead of bows to choose from and you don't even have to have bows or flowers if you don't want to. These are totally customizable, just ask first to see if what you want is available.

Check out their website at http://www.ittywigs.com and their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/IttyWigs

Pony Feathers - My Shameless Plug For My Husband

My husband owns a business called Pony Feathers. He has a CNC (computer controlled) router (ShopBot) with which he can make you beautiful custom woodworking: signs, doors, boats, cabinetry, furniture, etc. His specialty are signs and plaques, but in the past he has made other things like: doors, a medallion for a wood floor, a partitioned bowl all cut in one piece, fireplace mantel, a rocking chair, burl mirrors and tables, trivets, custom fencing, etc. He loves thinking outside the box and working with his clients to make something truly special and unique for them.

Here are some pictures of some signs he has done. Most of these signs are located in and around Reedsport, Oregon because we lived there for a while. If you have visited Reedsport you probably would have seen at least one of these signs. From left to right and top to bottom: Thai sign in Winchester Bay (we made both top and bottom portions), Rainier Days in the Park sign for our local Chevron gas station, Portland General Electric Beaver Generating Station plaque made for a retiring friend at his work (the top lettering is raised, the metal is inset and the bottom lettering is carved out), Rowan's Apothecary & Cafe sign (again the leaf pattern and larger words are raised and the smaller words at the bottom are inset), Kidz Place sign (a transitional sign for a children's consignment and resale shop in Rainier Oregon. The bear and the block letters are raised and the letters at the bottom are inset. Then it was painted by hand), Beartown Carvings sign (made for a good friend of ours, Brad Sharp, that is a chainsaw carver for his shop), Pepa and Preston's House sign (a simple sign in different fonts), Mr. Beans sign (except for the letters this sign is cut out of a single piece of plywood. This was a fun one for him to design and watch his machine cut!), lighthouse sign made by my husband and I for the L.U.H. Home Health Hospice in Reedsport Oregon, large Hahn Memorial Park sign in Reedsport Oregon (did in conjunction with our friend Brad Sharp: Brian did the lettering and Brad did the faces on it), Jim Barrone Memorial Fields sign in Reedsport Oregon (also did in partnership with our friend Brad Sharp: Brian did the lettering and Brad did the faces on it), Flag and Blanket  People sign (we made in trade for some dolphin/whale blankets).

Here are some pictures of other woodworking projects he has done. From left to right and top to bottom: trivet with the tiles set into a piece of wood and the design of the tiles continuing into the wood as a carved design, a Myrtle wood saddle for the a Radio Flyer rocking horse (this is unfinished), the saddle again now on the horse and finished, a burl mirror, a dolphin carved out of a gorgeous piece of Myrtle wood, an eagle engraved into a beautiful piece of Burly Maple, our son's derby cars for Boy Scouts: a serpent and an alligator, a rocking chair, a burl, a church door in Reedsport Oregon for the local Episcopal Church, and part of a dolphin fence gate. Unfortunately we do not have pictures of some of the things he has made, among them are: the fireplace mantel, partitioned bowl and the medallion for a wood floor.

Right now we only have a Facebook page for our business and would love some more likes. Please if you like what you see here give us some Facebook love. Thank you!

Treat Valentine's Day Review and Giveaway

My special someone, my husband, deserves a special thank you card from me this Valentine's Day...actually he deserves more than that, but a card is a good start :) He has been trying so hard to get our farmhouse remodeled so that we can move in, but he has been so busy with helping others and giving overtime at his job that he has had little time for it. I love him so much for his efforts. Maybe he will get a break to get some of it done soon. We have a lot to do still on it because we are gutting the whole thing to make it our very own.

Since a card is in order first before anything else. I think Treat.com is a great place to get them! Greeting cards can be more personalized and customized with Treat.com. You can make these one-of-a-kind cards online in the comfort of your own home...even in your pajamas if you like :) Add your own photos and words to make something truly unique and perfect for your special someone. You can't really do that with a boring drugstore greeting card.

Plus Treat.com has some other great services to help you out in the whole process. First they have a reminder service that will make sure that you never miss a birthday, anniversary, or other special date. They also have a Message Library that can help if you are at a loss of words. They even have cards that can integrate gift cards in them if you want to add a certain something more to it. Treat Valentine's Day cards are a wonderful way to say exactly what you want to. Their services are so fun and easy to use and so much more personal. Go on and make an amazing card today!

Whimsey Kids and My Whimsical Creations Boutique Review and Giveaway

My daughter Teela turned 4 officially on April 15th, 2012. I wanted her party day, April 28th, to be special. Teela had picked a Princess and Pony theme for her party this year. My mom (her Babu, short for Babushka) got her a princess crown, wand, and ring to go with the party dress she would be wearing and made her a special carrot cake with cream cheese filling for her birthday cake. I made all the arrangements for getting the announcement out for the event on Facebook since all my friends that had little girls semi close to me were on there. I also bought a cute cake topper for her cake with 4 Disney Princesses and a castle that opened up as a carrying case to house them after the cake was gone. My boys helped me decorate and planned their own puppet show to put on for the guests. We had a few glitches during the party, but all in all I believe it was a success. Teela loved all her gifts she received and had a lot of fun with her friends doing games, dressing up, and watching Disney's Tangled.

The icing on the cake crown jewel was her party dress! Handcrafted by Whimsey Kids (My Whimsical Creations Boutique) this dress was custom made with my specifications and my daughter's measurements. I got a knotted dress with a fairly long skirt so that Teela has a bunch of room to grow in it still. I picked out: the style of dress, the material from Whimsey Kids' fabric stash, what size it should be and what my daughter would love handpainted on the front. Whimsey Kids did all the rest! She was so great to work with! She sewed the dress and added really cute embellishments. I love the ruffle on the top front of the bodice, the white ribbon bow, and the ties in back to make a bow that she added to it. My daughter requested Whimsey Kids paint a pony so she painted Strawberry Shortcake's horse, Honey Pie on the front. Honey Pie looks a bit like our mini pony, Gizmo. Whimsey Kids is so amazingly talented! She handpaints all these characters herself! Go to her website and see what she has done to get ideas. Teela's dress turned out gorgeous! I am very thankful to Whimsey Kids because Teela was definitely the belle of the ball and this dress is awesome for Spring!

BUY IT:
You can find her creations on her Website, Ebay, Facebook, and Yardsellr.

Prize: Win a Whimsey Kids Custom Dress and Matching Hair Clip.

Lil Miss Dolls & Friends Review

I happened upon this very charming website the other day because they added me on twitter and I have to share with all of you! Katrina Marie is exceptionally talented! She makes these very cute mod looking stylish dolls and has been selling them and their patterns on Etsy and Artfire. Now she has just opened the doors to a new website about the dolls. She and her associates will be developing the website and adding more to it soon so stay tuned. Coming soon to the collection of seven girl dolls will be patterns and pre-made: clothing, Lil Sis dolls (which are smaller 18" dolls), Lil Pets (15" cloth toys), Friends (model friends and guy friends). You can even buy a kit so you won't have to spend your whole week looking for supplies to make the dolls or you could purchase a cottage license to sew and sell your own dolls. These dolls are safe for babies or children and are totally customizable to look like your child!! How cool is that!?

Anyway, for all you bloggers out there you can download a free pattern in PDF format for her Lil Miss MISSY Doll! Just make sure to spread the good word on your blogs about them. They also have the instructions on how to make the dolls on their tutorial webpage also as a free PDF download. So enjoy these freebies while you can!!
