Josh Wilson Noel CD Review and Giveaway

Josh Wilson is a contemporary Christian musician from El Dorado, Arkansas. I love the style Josh brings to the table. He has a strong unwavering voice. I am glad I was introduced to his music because I really like what I have heard so far.

His first full length new Christmas album, Noel, was released October 9th as a followup to his successful Christmas Tour in 2011. I haven't heard his other albums, but this one has a fresh and new way of arranging the songs that I have heard. He has an amazing amount of instruments in this album. On the cover just counting there are 10 different things and I can hear others as well throughout his music. Apparently on tour he had more than 20 instruments, most of which he plays, and he will again. He creates his albums and now stage performances with a technique called looping (below you can see him do this in the recording studio telling about looping).

This album is wonderfully well balanced with: 4 original songs, 4 traditional carols and 2 instrumentals. Having that many good originals on a Christmas album definitely takes talent and skill. The first song on the album, The First Noel, is an instrumental piece and beautifully arranged. I love the saxophone and sleigh bells in Almost Christmas and the song is so fun too. O Come, O Come Emmanuel has a verse with in the original  Ecclesiastical Latin which is very cool. There are so many songs on this album that I haven't heard and that I think, makes this album special. It is not comprised of too many traditional Christmas songs that one has heard so many times that they get annoying. If the song is one I have heard before he makes it new with the arrangements and instrumentation. I really love this album and I know it will be playing in my Christmas rotation of music a lot.

The Verse in O Come, O Come Emmanuel in Ecclesiastical Latin:
Veni, veni Emanuel!
Captivum solve Israel!
Qui gemit in exilio,
Privatus Dei Filio.

Refrain

Gaude, gaude, Emanuel
Nascetur pro te, Israel.
