Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. Affiliate links are in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

My family had the privilege of trying Let's Go Geography, Year 2 from Let's Go Geography for this review to use in conjunction with our own curriculum at home. This is a Homeschool Review Crew Review. All opinions expressed are my own or those of my family.

Let's Go Geography is a wonderful geography curriculum that is perfect for kids in kindergarten through 4th grade. This can be used by one teacher for all their students in their class(es). Great for homeschool, co-ops, and small classrooms.

This curriculum is a course to introduce younger kids to geography with a different country every week. This curriculum has a total of three complete years of world geography. This covers most of the countries of the world. Each year covers two regions of the US plus 26 or so countries. The subscription is for a full year. You can either choose getting the lessons one semester at a time or the entire year all at once. You can do the lessons online or you also have the option to download the entire semester or year (PDFs) to your computer and do them offline. These are designed to be done in order, but you can also jump around to teach about the countries you are most interested in. You will also get a very handy reminder email every week with the link to the lesson for the following week. The Standard Membership gives you access to the lessons for two years. They also have Lifetime Access.

Your student can also make a Travel Journal in a 3-ring binder to keep all the geography pages organized. The subscription comes with free printable covers for the journal. The Passport pages are an additional cost to print out (we as crew members did also get this for free). Store all Travel Itinerary, maps, coloring pages, Passports, and projects in the Travel Journal.

The lessons are very hands-on with crafts, activities, and links to engaging videos and other online content. Each weeks lesson takes about an hour and has 6 chapters including: Map It!, The Flag, The Music, Let's Explore, Create!, and Printables. While your student learns, each lesson has all kinds of fun stuff for them to do. Your student will color flags, find things on maps, watch and listen to songs that go with the theme and sing along, watch videos or read books about the country, look at pictures of the highlights for the country on scrapbook pages, write on decorated notebooking pages or color a themed page, and make a craft. These hands-on activities make every lesson more interesting in this fun homeschool geography.

Let's Go Geography, Year 2 Online

Lesson Chapter Overview
  • Chapter 1: Map it! – Print the map, find and color the country on the map, and explore and answer questions they provide about the country using the map. There are also more map activities (like coloring, labeling, and exploring more) you can pick from as well for the older student to do.
  • Chapter 2: The Flag – Print, color, cut, and glue the flag into your Travel Journal or in your Passport.
  • Chapter 3: The Music – Read the lyrics & listen and watch the music of the country with online videos.
  • Chapter 4: Let’s Explore – Go sightseeing! Learn about fascinating facts about the country. Your student could learn about the landscape, about the people, places to visit, etc.. Optional writing assignments are also given so your child can put into writing what they learned. Pictures of country highlights are included to add to the Photo Album part of your student's Travel Journal.
  • Chapter 5: Create! – Color a picture or make a fun craft! These hands-on activities have step-by-step instructions and a list of any supplies you need. Color pages are usually located in the Printables section.
  • Chapter 6: Printables – This section has notebooking pages, extra flags for the classroom, coloring pages and more.

How We Used This and Our Thoughts:

I did this with my daughter Zari, who is 9. We received the standard membership unlike year 1 when we received lifetime membership through the crew. We did one lesson per week which put us at 5 lessons during this review period. We picked a day to do each lesson every week. We did the lessons in order as they came so I could keep track of them easier. I downloaded all the lessons to my computer so that I would have them there if I needed to use see them while I was offline. We learned about the: Continents of N. America, S. America, and Europe; Pacific NW, Mountain West, South Atlantic, and Mexico so far. We found that the pictures of the flags for the Travel Journal were very small and hard to color with anything, but a very sharpened colored pencil. We loved doing all the hands-on activities: watching videos, coloring, and crafts, etc. while we learned this kids homeschool geography curriculum.

Zari making the first three Continent Dividers for the notebook.

For The Continents Part One we learned about North America, South America, and Europe. We mapped some items on a world map. We also answered questions about the climate from another map. We listened to a song about the world's oceans and put together continent dividers for our Travel Notebook. There are 3 continent dividers for this lesson and 3 in lesson 19. Since this lesson was not about a particular country and instead focused on three continents it was structured a bit differently. We watched a short movie clip about each of the three continents in this lesson. After each clip Zari made the continent divider that went with each one. There is also a video clip about Antarctica, but no divider to make for it this year since it is actually covered in year 3. There are also extra activities for older students like: reading a webpage about the continents, getting books to read from the library, atlas reading, and writing what you learned in the notebooking pages that can be printed out. Zari skipped those for now. Since it was just Zari and her sister we didn't play the The North-South-East-West Game, but it sounded fun for when we had more players.

Zari Painting the Mountains and Trees craft for the Pacific NW.

For The Pacific NW we learned about 3 states in the USA: Washington, Oregon, and California. I was concerned a little bit by Let's Go Geography's definition of the Pacific NW. The common definition actually refers to the Pacific NW as the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. In broader terms, the region also encompasses Alaska, Yukon, California, western Montana and parts of Wyoming. So really saying that Washington, Oregon, and California are the only three states comprising the Pacific NW, like Let's Go Geography was doing, is actually not entirely correct. Anyway, enough of my geography rant...on to what we did and learned this lesson. We did a bunch of mapping and answering questions from using the map. We colored a tiny American flag and glued it to a page of flags for the notebook. We listened to the National Anthem of America and the folk song of Washington. We looked at color pictures of highlights of the places which actually included pictures of things in Wyoming and Montana as well (I would think this would be confusing for others since Let's Go Geography stated that Pacific NW was Washington, Oregon, and California). It also includes a picture of rock formations in Utah and the Four Corners??? 😕 We also learned about reforestation, the Sequoias of California,  Mt. Saint Helens, Crater Lake, etc. by watching video clips. Zari loved doing the craft of the Mountains & Trees of the Pacific Northwest. I told Zari that we live in the Pacific NW.

Zari making the Desert Sunset with Cacti craft for the Mountain West.

For The Mountain West we learned about 8 states in the USA: Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona, known better as The Mountain States. We did some map activities and answered some questions about these states and the surrounding area. We listened to the National Anthem (this time a different person was performing) and folk music from cowboy days. We learned about The Rocky Mountains, buffalo, and the Hoover Dam. We looked at color pictures of highlights of the places like: Lake Mead, Snake River, etc. Some of the same pictures as were used for the Pacific NW PDF were in this PDF, but this time they actually went with the theme. We watched a video of drone footage of the Colorado Rocky Mountains and the Grand Canyon set to music which was awesome!  We loved watching the time lapse video on International Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico and learning about growing potatoes in Idaho. Zari enjoyed making the craft, A Desert Sunset with Cacti. I told Zari that I used to live and go to school (Provo High School and Utah Valley State University) in Provo and Orem Utah and that her Daddy and I got married in the Jordan River Temple in South Jordan Utah.

Zari coloring The South Atlantic coloring page.

For The South Atlantic we learned about 8 states in the USA: Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, & Florida. We did some map activities and answered some questions about these states and the surrounding area. We listened to the National Anthem (this time a different person was performing) and a folk song from American past. We learned about the Mason-Dixon line, Georgia crops, etc. We looked at color pictures of highlights of the places like: homes of some of the presidents, the Biltmore House, New River Gorge Bridge, etc. We watched a video of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Appalachian Trail, Washington DC, etc. Zari wanted to color the coloring page this time for the Create section instead of the craft this time. I told her that other than her and Teela everyone else in our family has lived in Florida before.

Zari coloring the Mexico coloring page.

For lesson 5 we learned about Mexico. We did some map activities and answered some questions about this country and the surrounding area. We colored a tiny Mexican flag and glued it to a page of flags for the notebook. We listened to the National Anthem of Mexico and a Mariachi Band. We learned some facts about Mexico and then looked at color pictures of highlights like: Aculpulco, Popocatepetl, Monarch Butterflies, etc. We watched videos on visiting Mexico, and seeing some Aztec & Incan ruins, etc. Zari loved the video about making the hats. It was really interesting because we learned they had to be made in caves. Zari colored the picture of the 5 things to remind her of Mexico that we printed from the PDF. The picture had a Mexican Beaded Lizard, sombreros, maracas, hot peppers, and cactus.

We had a great time doing this geography curriculum for kids. It is a great stand alone curriculum for younger children, but for the older kids would be a great supplement to use with another geography program. I recommend this to homeschooling families with kids in Kindergarten through fifth grade. We can't wait to do more of these lessons.

Allsaid & Dunn, LLC The Magic Stories Review

My family had the privilege of trying The Magic Stories from Allsaid & Dunn, LLC, publishers of The Reading Game and authors of the Wordly Wise series for this review to use in conjunction with our own homeschool curriculum. This is a Homeschool Review Crew Review. All opinions expressed are my own or those of my family.

The Magic Stories are 6 downloadable PDFs that each have a thought-provoking story with good morals and character built into the plots. These are about 20 pages long, are typed in a larger font that is easily read, and should be read in sequential order. These stories have black and white drawings and sketches that can be colored by the child as well.

Each story comes with a set of "Naughty 40" word flash cards and four worksheets. The "Naughty 40" are words that kids have difficulty reading. They can be printed and cut out for use. The exercises in the worksheets include: maze, finish the sentence, imagine, and finish the story.

There are optional worksheets on the website for free to download available under the “Free Resources” section of their website. The Instructions for The Magic Stories will tell you what to do with this set to optimally teach your child with it. The Pre & Post Sight Word Assessment Worksheets help determine whether your child is familiar with the "Naughty 40" words from each story. This tests vocabulary acquisition growth. You check mark if your child recognizes the word, can read in a sentence & understands the meaning of the word. This is done before reading the story and after. If your child needs more help you can use the flash cards to work on these more. There are also Running Record Evaluation Worksheets for each book that is a 100 word section of each story to test your child's reading fluency.

This set develops comprehension, writing skills, creative writing, perception, reasoning, and memory recall. This supplemental reading program is recommended for 2nd/3rd grade reading level. These can be used as a follow up to The Reading Game, but the game is not a prerequisite. These are optimized for iPad or computer screen and can easily be printed on standard 8.5" x 11" paper or cards.

Titles of The Magic Stories:
  1. The Magic Hole
  2. The Magic Ax
  3. The Magic Joke
  4. The Magic Hotdog
  5. The Magic Boots
  6. The Magic Box

Teela doing the worksheets for The Magic Stories.

How We Used This and Our Thoughts:
My daughter Teela is in 4th grade and my daughter Zari is in 1st grade this year. I knew that my daughter Teela would be too advanced in her reading to really benefit from this completely, but I also thought she might enjoy reading the stories and possibly doing the activities. Zari is not reading too much yet as she is just beginning reading, so I had Teela read the stories out loud to her so that she could enjoy them as well. These stories are well written and have a great moral ending to each one. For example: The Magic Ax is about a boy that learns the value of hard work and The Magic Joke shares with us that it is better to end a war than win a war. These could be printed, but we decided to just have Teela read them from the computer. We very much enjoyed reading these stories. My favorite was The Magic Ax, Teela's favorite was The Magic Hotdog, and Zari's was The Magic Boots.

The "Naughty 40" word flash cards have the word and a sentence with the word in it on them. These are words a typical 2nd - 3rd grader might have trouble reading because of how they are spelled or because they don't follow the rules. Each story has a set of 40 of these words and these are listed at the end of each story. The flash cards are in their own PDFs for printing out easily. We used these decks very little at this point because Teela was already well versed with reading these words and Zari still had trouble reading most the words in the stories by herself. We will probably utilize these at a later point when Zari is in 2nd or 3rd grade and feels more independent at reading more words.

The worksheets were also in their own PDFs. These we printed out and had Teela do each one after she read each story. She liked doing these and thought the activities were fun. I liked that they made her recall the story and tested her comprehension of it.

I would recommend these to those who like fun stories and are 2nd - 3rd grade reading level...although I enjoyed them as well. I believe that those grades would benefit most from the complete package. These are a great supplemental reading program for homeschool setting.

How We Used This and Our Thoughts:
I did this with my daughters, who are 9 and 6. We did one lesson per week which put us at 5 lessons during this review period. We picked a Monday to do each lesson every week. We did the lessons in order as they came so I could keep track of them easier. I downloaded all the lessons to my computer so that I would have them there if I needed to use see them while I was offline. We learned about the Northeast part of the US, Hawaii, Canada, Haiti, and Nicaragua so far. We found that the pictures of the flags for the Travel Journal were very small and hard to color with anything, but a very sharpened colored pencil. We loved doing all the hands-on activities: watching videos, coloring, and crafts, etc. while we learned this kids homeschool geography curriculum.

Let's Go Geography Northeast US Lighthouse Craft with a modification.

The Northeast part of the US consists of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey. I haven't really visited that many of these states so it was fun to introduce my younger kids to them. I told my daughters that it was Pennsylvania that I would go with my daughter, Tatiana, multiple times for the Life Vessel, treatment therapy she had, that helped her. Massachusetts was also where my husband was born. When we did the Northeast part of the US my girls especially loved making the lighthouses out of cups, paper, and tape. I didn't have any of the smaller plastic cups that were needed so I improvised and cut a 20 fl oz clear soda pop bottle (we used ones with red lids, but black would look cool too) in half (ours had a line to follow all the way around) with a blade. I did this ahead of time for the girls. We used the top half and it fit over the larger red cups perfectly. We didn't have any white tape, so we used white strips of paper taped around the red cup for the stripes. I don't have battery operated tealights, but I placed a small unlit candle in the pop bottle chamber just for show. We used black duct tape for the door and windows instead of black paper or marker.

Let's Go Geography Hawaiian Lei Craft.

For Hawaii I was hoping that they would have a Hawaiian song or Hula dance for the music instead of the US National Anthem again because it would show their culture better. My girls loved making the leis. We had a handful of colored plastic straws that we cut up into pieces to use as spacers for the paper flowers instead of the beads. I told my daughters that my husband used to live in Hawaii while he was in the Navy and my sister Jennifer (their aunt) went on an LDS mission there. I hope to someday visit too.

For Canada we learned about the Canadian flag, learned the anthem, learned that Canadians speak both English and French, about the Inuit people, and Niagara Falls. We learned about the Canadian Maple Leaf and why it is an important symbol to Canada. We also made a craft with the leaf.

For Haiti we learned about the flag and the symbols on it, heard the anthem in French, about its mountains and deforestation, about the crops people grow to earn a living. We also made some Haitian art with a batik feel.

Let's Go Geography Nicaragua Green Sea Turtle Puppet Craft.

For Nicaragua we learned about the flag and its symbols, we heard the anthem in Spanish, watched a volcano erupt, learned ways people earn a living, how a hand-rolled cigar is made (which I thought might not be a good thing to have kids watch even though it is a big part of Nicaraguan culture), learned about animals of the region, specifically sea turtles. We also made a sea turtle paper bag puppet.

We had a great time doing this geography curriculum for kids. I like that there are breaks and review lessons so that your student also retains the knowledge of the previous lessons. It is a great stand alone curriculum for younger children, but for the older kids would be a great supplement to use with another geography program. I recommend this to homeschooling families with kids in Kindergarten through fourth grade. We can't wait to do more of these lessons.

Herb Fairies is Now Open for Enrollment!

Herb Fairies is a complete children's herbal learning system. While geared towards kids these help young and old alike learn herbs in a fun way. I love to use these in homeschooling! Both my sons and daughters love these.

These interactive eBook stories were written by Kimberly Gallagher, the creator of Wildcraft! An Herbal Adventure Board Game.

The 13 Herb Fairies eBooks pick up where the Wildcraft! game left off. Herb Fairies teaches kids that not only do herbs for healing and eating exist, but they teach how to use them. They teach these things with storytelling and mentoring. You do the activities with your children and help them learn and you learn right along with them.

Each eBook is about 40-50 pages. They are available for printing (PDF), iPad and Kindle. When you sign up for the book club you get full access to the Herb Fairies website and each eBook comes with supplementary materials. You get the first 2 books first and then each month you will get a new book until all 13 are delivered. On every page there is a color illustration so these are pleasing to small children as well as older ones.

The “Magic Keeper’s Journal” comes with the Herb Fairies ebooks. It is coloring pages, recipe cards and a book with activities, puzzles, games and more to make it a completely interactive experience.

Also included is a bonus audio book version for when your kids want to listen during the day, and you’re too busy OR if they like to fall asleep listening to audio books. This is read by Kimberly the creator of the Herb Fairies.

With each Herb Fairy book you also get an accompanying issue of Herbal Roots Zine. These are full issues which give you more information about each herb. These also include songs, stories, poems, games, puzzles, mazes, word searches, crafts and MUCH more. These are also digitally delivered and are valued at $7.99 an issue.

Also, you get a bonus Herbal Remedies for Children During Cold & Flu Season eBook by Rosalee de la Forêt. This covers a lot of the herbs that you will be learning about in Herb Fairies. Your child will become more receptive to the medicine you make with the herbs they are learning about. This alone is valued at $37 and is 93 pages.
