Julie Elias A Girl Like Me Album Review and Giveaway

I received this CD free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

Julie Elias is a Christian singer and songwriter who discovered happiness in Christ when being an actress in Hollywood was not making her content. She had fame and appeared in shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI:NY”, but she was not fulfilled and felt like something was missing. She turned to God to guide her and Christian music became her voice to encourage others with her stories in song. In 2014, she founded Aurora Ministries, a 501c3 non-profit that creates Christian material and events specifically for teen and tween girls. Through music, booklets, blogging, conferences and girls’ events, Julie has been able to share God’s role in her life - even when she didn’t think He was there - and find common ground to inspire young women all over the world.

A Girl Like Me is her fifth studio album. It will be available on all digital music outlets, including iTunes, on October 27, 2017. This album is a companion to her girls' events and all the original songs on the album have purpose and stories behind them. This album is for women everywhere, regardless of what stage of life. It reminds us all that despite our failures and stubbornness, we need to “still believe a girl like me could be worthy of a King."

CD Track Listing:
  1. Unchained
  2. Only For Awhile
  3. Awaken
  4. A Girl Like Me
  5. Alive
  6. Forgive Me
  7. Lost
  8. Run Away
  9. Here With Us
  10. Wherever You Roam
  11. A Wild Rose (2017 Version) *Bonus track
  12. In the Light *Bonus track

CD, Jacket, & Inserts.

What I Thought:
This CD is so open and candid. Julie speaks from experience with her heart. I love the song Unchained because it shows her giving herself to God and letting Him take her burdens away. She spells out her vulnerabilities and lets Him help her through them because she knows He loves her for just the way she is.

We are all flawed, but God loves us anyway. This CD helps us remember that God is with us and will help us through troubled times. He knows us better than I think we know ourselves and He will forgive us of our failings if we let Him.

I recommend this album. It is so inspiring and wonderful. Julie has a beautiful voice and I hope she makes many more albums to share her feelings and faith with.

Amy Grant Tennessee Christmas CD Review and Giveaway #TennesseeChristmas #FlyBy

Amy Grant is one of the most well known and cherished songwriters in Christian music. Tennessee Christmas is her first all new Christmas album in nearly 20 years. This album features an updated recording of the Amy Grant Christmas standard, Tennessee Christmas, 6 new songs and the traditional Christmas favorites: Baby, It's Cold Outside, O Come All Ye Faithful, & Joy To The World. This album wasn't recorded in a big music studio. Instead it was recorded in Amy's Nashville Tennessee home. Her husband and country singer, Vince Gill, sings with her in Baby, It’s Cold Outside. This brand new album shares Amy's classic vocals with a more intimate, mellow feel. Some of the songs are also mixed with personal stories and Amy's memories from the holidays. The liner notes inside the CD case have some fun family photos and each songs lyrics as well.

I have been to Tennessee, but only briefly. I know they have some gorgeous scenery and beautiful Smoky Mountains. It is also the birthplace of country music and where Elvis grew up. I pray now for the people in Gatlinburg, Tennessee where wildfires are burning homes, businesses and parts of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I hope that those affected can stay positive through this trial. I also hope these people stay safe and even in the midst of heartache and loss can rebuild when the fires are finally put out. Let's all pray for them.

This album is a lovely medley of Christmas music. Amy has personalized the music with her thoughts, and to some, like me, it sounds like a cheesy Christmas card. It feels a little too sentimental and a bit sappy for my taste, but that is just me. I know she meant well, but these thoughts would have been better in the liner notes. I do love the songs and the feel to this new CD of Amy Grant's, however; I also wish there were more songs about the Savior's birth. My favorite songs on this Album are To Be Together, Tennessee Christmas, and Joy To The World.

Track Listing:
  1. Tennessee Christmas (4:27)
  2. To Be Together (4:10)
  3. Christmas For You And Me (3:03)
  4. Melancholy Christmas (3:02)
  5. December (3:29)
  6. White Christmas (2:23)
  7. Joy To The World (3:08)
  8. I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm (3:24)
  9. Baby, It’s Cold Outside [feat. Vince Gill] (3:14)
  10. Christmas Don’t Be Late (3:16)
  11. Still Can’t Sleep (3:11)
  12. Another Merry Christmas (2:22)
  13. O Come, All Ye Faithful (3:07)
Album length: 13 tracks: 42 minutes, 16 seconds

Court Yard Hounds Amelita CD Review #CYHAmelita

I participated in this campaign for One2One Network. I received a free copy of the CD to facilitate my review. By posting, I am eligible for incentives. All opinions stated are my own.

I love the musical talent of the Dixie Chicks and when I heard that two of the band members and real life sisters, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire had broke off and made their own band called Court Yard Hounds I had to jump on the bandwagon and get one of their albums.
Containing 11 new tracks, Robison and Maguire took a different approach with their second album, Amelita than their debut album in 2010. This album contains a new perspective, which is due in part to time passed since Robison’s divorce. “I’ve been freed of all of those time-heals-everything kind of things,” says Robison. “Now, I’ve opened up to other ideas and ways of looking at life and the world. I think it’s not only a more hopeful album, but it’s more… well fun."
"I love this band...the way we explore new aspects of ourselves and what we can expect from each other, both musically and as people," says Martie. "We are close. Plus, being on the road and being in the studio is like my spa from the everyday challenges of just being a mom.”
Amelita does not disappoint! With great country and folk rhythms, wonderful instruments and all the swinging, strumming and fiddlin' sounds these girls can muster, you can sure rock out to this! The beat just gets you going and makes you wanna dance. I love the violin and banjo parts the most and the vocals are amazing. I love the sweet fiddle sounds and tambourine in Phoebe and the righteous guitar in The Road You Take. These ladies have evolved well in their musical careers. Their music is both familiar and defining, but definitely noticeably better with age. I highly recommend this album!

Colbie Caillat Christmas in the Sand CD Review and Giveaway

Colbie Caillat just came out with her new Christmas album called Christmas in the Sand. It just was released October 23rd. She wanted this album to be special with a song on it for those that don't live in the cold.

I love the song that she wrote that has the same name as the album. It has very playful lyrics and a catchy tune. She also has Every Day Is Christmas, Mistletoe and Happy Christmas that are also written by her and her co-writers on this album and these were songs that were new to me too. Although not all the songs on the album are about Christmas in a warmer place, it has the best of both worlds: cold and snowy & warm and sandy. She draws on well-known favorites as well as some of her own material and has guest singers singing with her on some of the songs. I love the way she slipped in country and Hawaii in Silver Bells. She also did a photo shoot for the cover and insert photos on the beach of Malibu California, the city she is from. She looks like she had a lot of fun posing for them.

Here is the Christmas in the Sand Trailer:

Here you can sing along to my favorite song on the CD:

    Tracklist:
01 – Merry Christmas Baby (Feat. Brad Paisley)
    02 – Santa Baby
03 – Christmas In The Sand
04 – Baby It’s Cold Outside (Feat. Gavin DeGraw)
05 – The Christmas Song (Feat. Justin Young)
06 – Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
07 – Every Day Is Christmas (Feat. Jason Reeves)
    08 – Silver Bells
    09 – Winter Wonderland
    10 – Mistletoe
    11 – Happy Christmas

    Taylor Swift Red CD Review

I love Taylor Swift. She is a great role model for girls. She has a very sweet modest style which I think is rare in an artist of her stature. I admire this very much in her and I hope she never looses her innocence like so many other artists have before her.

Red is her fourth studio album. It was released on October 22, 2012 through Big Machine Records. The album features collaborations with new producers and guest artists such as Gary Lightbody and Ed Sheeran, and sees Swift experimenting with new musical genres. The Red Tour is scheduled to begin in March 2013. The insert to the album has all the words so you can sing along if you want to and each song has a different picture of Taylor.

State of Grace, Treacherous and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together are my favorites on the album. The songs Red, 22 and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together are very pop, they remind me a little of Avril Lavigne. I love Avril too, so they work well for me. The Last Time features Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol and has a wonderful orchestra in the background and is a gorgeous duet. Holy Ground is upbeat and fast at first then slows and gets upbeat and fast again...great to dance to. Sad Beautiful Tragic is slow and melancholy. The Lucky One is about fame and fortune and where it actually gets you...kinda sad, but true, I guess. Everything Has Changed features Ed Sheeran. Most the songs in Red are about relationships, good and bad. Red is the color of intense emotions at both ends of the spectrum:  love and anger.  The whole album is apparently about her experiences with love..."Swift" and crazy at times. It is definitely one of her most dynamic albums to date, but I believe she pulls it off well.

    Red Music Video:

    Track List:
    1. State Of Grace
    2. Red
    3. Treacherous
    4. I Knew You Were Trouble
    5. All Too Well
    6. 22
    7. I Almost Do
    8. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
    9. Stay Stay Stay
    10. The Last Time
    11. Holy Ground
    12. Sad Beautiful Tragic
    13. The Lucky One
    14. Everything Has Changed (feat. Ed Sheeran)
    15. Starlight
    16. Begin Again

Putumayo Bluegrass CD Review and Giveaway

Bluegrass music was pioneered by Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys, so named after the Bluegrass State of Kentucky and inspired by the music of Appalachia. Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music with a conglomeration of old-timey mountain music, blues, gospel tunes, jazz, country and folk music. The music is traditionally made up of acoustic stringed instruments: fiddles, guitars, banjos, mandolins, and upright bass. Occasionally you hear other instruments as well like: jug, penny whistle, flute, drums, accordion, harmonica, piano, autoharp, electric guitar, resonator guitar or Dobro and electric versions of other common bluegrass instruments. These additions of instruments make the music more Newgrass than Bluegrass, but still the sound is sweet and reminds me of the good ole country.

The Putumayo Presents Bluegrass album is a collection of great Bluegrass musicians as well as Bluegrass music. I really enjoyed the music on this CD.

    Track List and my thoughts:
01 Alison Krauss & Union Station - Every Time You Say Goodbye - (United States)
The vocals of Alison Krauss remind me somewhat of Dolly Parton. She has a purity to her voice that I really like. In Every Time You Say Goodbye there is a lot of plucking and the song has a great beat to it. I love the fiddle part!
02 Railroad Earth - Been Down This Road - (United States)
Railroad Earth give a lonesome mournful quality to Been Down This Road. I love their twangy style.
03 David Grisman and Jerry Garcia - Jackaroo - (United States)
David Grisman and Jerry Garcia don't need introductions, but did you know that Garcia was in the Mother McCreedy's Jug Band before the Grateful Dead even existed?
04 Andrea Zonn with Alison Brown - New Night Dawning - (United States)
I love Zonn's fiddle and her lovely voice and Brown's banjo in New Night Dawning. The two make a great pair.
05 Frank Solivan - Across the Great Divide - (United States)
Frank Solivan has a lot of talent. He plays mandolin, guitar, and fiddle...and he can sing perdy too :)
06 Peter Rowan - Man of Constant Sorrow - (United States)
This song so reminds me of when Soggy Bottom Boys sang this in one of my favorite movies, 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?'. Such a great song :) I love it! Peter Rowan's version of this song has a reggae feel. He actually performed with the master, Bill Monroe, as a Blue Grass Boy and for 3 years was their lead vocalist and guitarist. He also performed with other greats: David Grisman and Jerry Garcia. Joining him on this track are his brothers Christopher and Lorin.
07 James Alan Shelton - Shady Grove - (United States)
Shady Grove is one of the oldest songs in classic Bluegrass and a derivative of the Old English folk song "Matty Groves." I love this love song and its Old English feel. Shelton and his guitar are perfect for its simplicity.
08 Crooked Still - New Railroad - (United States)
Lead vocalist Aoife O'Donovan has an ethereal quality in her voice that makes the Crooked Still's distinct sound. They are a mix of everything that makes up Bluegrass and more. I love that in this song you can actually hear the train coming down the tracks with the different instruments they are using.
09 Seldom Scene - Boots of Spanish Leather - (United States)
Great vocals and instrumentals in this one. I love this cover version of Bob Dylan's classic. This is such a sad ballad of two lovers. In the Seldom Scene version of Boots of Spanish Leather the trio sings the man's part and one guy sings the woman's part. The woman departs to Spain and keeps asking the man if there is something she should bring back to him. All the man wants is for his love to come home to him, but she keeps insisting on something else. Finally, giving up he asks for Spanish boots of Spanish leather. This is sad because she will never return to him. He has to leave her and learn to walk on in his new boots.
10 Uncle Earl - The Last Goodbye - (United States)
Uncle Earl is an all g'Earl band that was formed in 1999. These are a very talented bunch of ladies. Vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist K.C. Groves plays mandolin, guitar and bass. Kristin Andreassen joined in 2003, contributing her original songs in addition to vocals, rhythm guitar, fiddle, ukulele, and clog dancing. The Last Goodbye is also featured on their award winning 2007 album Waterloo, Tennessee.
11 Town Mountain - Diggin’ On The Mountainside - (United States)
Political and Social views bleed through the music of Town Mountain. In Diggin' On The Mountainside you can hear this in the lyrics. This band holds close to the traditional Bluegrass with fiddle, acoustic guitar, mandolin and banjo.
12 Sam Bush - Diamond Joe - (United States)
Sam Bush is a major contributor to Newgrass. He created a label and name for Newgrass within the Bluegrass movement. He's been playing mandolin since he was 11 years old and picked up the fiddle at 13. He is a master of picking.
13 Various Artists - I’ll Fly Away - (United States)
This is one of my favorites on the CD. It is all instrumental with various artists coming together to make up this Bluegrass Gospel song: Scot Vestal is on banjo, Aubrey Haynie on fiddle, Wayne Benson on mandolin, Jeff Autry on guitar, Rob Ickes on resophonic guitar and Mark Schatz on bass.

Putumayo Kids Cowboy Playground CD Review and Giveaway

I love music from Putumayo Kids! They are a great company that produces high quality music for kids that is both multicultural and educational.

Putumayo Kids Cowboy Playground is great musical fun for all your buckaroos! It has a wonderful selection of songs about the Wild West. This is especially perfect for cowboy themed children's events.

I have heard a lot of these songs when I was a child and it brought back some good memories of me and my sisters riding a bouncy horse at my Grandma's house and pretending we were cowgirls trying to rope cattle :) My Papa had gotten us cowboy boots and hats and I still have a blue sparkly vest that my mother made me with stars quilted on the front. Here is my daughter Teela wearing it when she was younger. :)

     Track Listing:
01 Wylie & the Wild West - Saddle Bum - (United States)

    Edens Edge CD Review

Edens Edge is an American country music band composed of Hannah Blaylock (lead vocals), Dean Berner (vocals, guitar, Dobro) and Cherrill Green (vocals, mandolin, banjo, guitar) from Arkansas. The band is signed to Big Machine Records and Edens Edge, their self titled album, is their first studio album.

This is a gorgeous debut album that was released on June 12, 2012. This trio is perfect together. Hannah has such a strong, beautiful twangy voice. The guitars, banjo, Dobro and mandolin in each piece manifest so much. Dean and Cherrill bring superb harmony to Hannah's voice.

    Track Listing and my thoughts:
    1. Amen: Twangy and fun. This song is about her guy friend finally getting his head out of the clouds and coming down to Earth about a girl he finally saw what she really was and let her go. "Someone give me an Amen."
    2. Swingin' Door: Fun and upbeat. About how she isn't gonna let this guy take her even with his sweet talkin'. "I ain't your swingin' door."
    3. Skinny Dippin': This song makes me giggle. Such a seductive song about a sweet cool temptation on a hot day. "Close your eyes, uh uh no peakin'."
    4. Too Good to Be True: About a boy that is just that...Too good to be true. "Like money fallin' out of the blue."
    5. Last Supper: Sad song about about the realization of a possible break up of the relationship. "Is this our last supper?"
    6. Feels So Real: Sad song about
    7. Who Am I Drinking Tonight: Even though I don't drink alcohol and don't condone this. I think that this is a trend in country music to sing about alcoholic drinks.
    8. Liar: Sad song about letting her love go to someone else because she never told her feelings to him. "I'm a liar."
    9. Cherry Pie: A song about reminiscing and being thankful for the people and animals that helped influence her life and become who she is now. Great vocals and instrumentals and an fantastic instrumental end. "I hope you understand, you have so much to do with who I am."
    10. Christ Alone: Beautiful Christian song with the gorgeous trio singing A Capella. "By Christ Alone will I be found worthy of that golden crown."

Rascal Flatts Changed Review and Contest

Sometimes I am in a definite country mood and turn up my favorite twangy songs. I decided to give Rascal Flatts a chance since I really hadn't heard their songs before. I love their new album Changed! The group is comprised of singer Gary LeVox, bassist Jay DeMarcus and guitarist Joe Don Rooney. This is their eighth studio album and their first with brand new material in two years.

    Track Listing and my thoughts:
    1. Changed: This song is about a change of heart, baptism and coming to Christ. It is a gorgeous ballad.
    2. Banjo: This song is upbeat and fun! It pays tribute to a great country instrument, the Banjo. It is about getting away from the craziness of  everyday life when you need to and going to someplace to relax and have fun with someone you love.
    3. Hot In Here: This is such a fun song about how a pretty girl can make a guy feel :)
    4. Come Wake Me Up: I love the piano in this one. It is a powerful, moving and emotional song about the pain of losing a love.
    5. She's Leaving: Great guitar and a little bit of violin in this one. Upbeat song about a girl that is leaving her man for a better life. Very catchy lyrics!
    6. Let It Hurt: Another great piano and guitar one. Ballad about how sometimes the experiences life throws at you can hurt and that you should let it do so because love will heal the wound. Great message and wisdom.
    7. Lovin' Me: This is a great song about how love grows within a relationship and that even when things are rough the love keeps going. Chorus is a bit repetitive, but it works.
    8.  Hurry Baby: This is a compassionate song about a guy waiting for his love to come back to him and how he misses her. This one has a very nice melody.
    9. Sunrise: About how someone can come help heal and save someone else from a broken relationship "One Sunrise at a Time". Touching and sentimental.
    10. Great Big Love: About having a bad day, but it doesn't matter because at the end of the day he's coming home to his love. Great country feel.
    11. A Little Home: About being away from home and receiving something from home from someone you care about so you will not get too home sick. Tender country ballad with a sentimental feel.

You can find them on Tour here.
