Holiday Gift Guide 2011 Celtic Christmas by Putumayo World Music Review and Giveaway

Music is an inseparable part of Christmas. Christmas Carols (Noëls) have been around and sung from house to house and in churches for ages. I remember singing with my mother the carols around the piano and loving the family togetherness that I felt. That feeling all comes rushing back to me when the radio starts playing Christmas music during the holidays. I love the holidays, they are truly "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year".

If you are looking for a great gift this year for someone who loves music, Putumayo World Music is a wonderful pick. They have so many albums that are really great. I have reviewed the Putumayo Kids albums before and I love them because they are so multicultural and give the whole family a different musical experience than maybe they are used to.

I received the Celtic Christmas album by Putumayo World Music for free to listen to and review. I love this Christmas CD! Some of the songs on this CD I have heard before, but this CD makes them have a Celtic flair. You will hear traditional instrumentation from the music of Irish, French, Welsh, Norse, Scottish Cornish, and Old English. My favorites are: their version of O Come, O Come Emmanuel, the entrancing Noel Nouvelet, and the beautiful Manx Jezebel Carol! The whole album is a lovely addition to my holiday season.

Wake Up, Clarinet by Oran Etkin Review and Giveaway

Wake Up, Clarinet by Oran Etkin is a CD that gives kids a taste of music they might not already be accustomed to, Jazz! Oran Etkin is a jazz clarinetist who is now catering to children. I think this CD is great because it expands upon the music that you might think of as kids music and gives you something more for your kids to appreciate. This CD introduces little kids to sounds not only of the clarinet, but a variety of other instruments as well. Etkin does this in a fun way calling his clarinet by the name Clara Net and making it "talk". Teela loves it! I love the Little Lamb Jam. It is a bit repetitious so my boys were not as into it as she was. This CD is a great introduction into the Jazz music world.

The Rosemary Wells Collection Review and Giveaway

In these 2 four-part DVDs The Rosemary Wells Collection brings to life the most beloved characters of children's author and illustrator, Rosemary Wells. This collection features two sibling bunnies called Max and Ruby. Max is a curious boy bunny who gets into trouble a lot and Ruby is his bossy older sister. The two make a great pair and share lots of everyday adventures together. Also on the DVDs are other less well known characters that will eventually become family favorites too.

I received this 2 DVD collection set for free to watch and review. I think my favorite of the stories was "Morris's Disappearing Bag" and "Voyage to the Bunny Planet". These are recommended for ages 2-7 and Teela, my youngest, who is 2 and a half loved them. They teach things like cooperation, early math and reading skills, problem solving and imagination. I love these stories and cute illustrations!

Take It Outside by The Okee Dokee Brothers Review and Giveaway

I love music for kids! The new CD from The Okee Dokee Brothers called Take It Outside is wonderful! I received a free copy to review and I just love their down-to-earth, down home style. They have a bluegrass feel with a mix of country and folk. I love how they use wordplay in their songs and make them so fun and sometimes very goofy :)

The Songs include:
1. Bluegrass For Breakfast: This is a great song to get breakfast on in the morning with.
2. Neighbors: Such a super silly song! I don't know a weirder set of neighbors than these that are portrayed in this song, LOL!
3. Tippy Toes: A great song about the digits of your feet. I love the reference to going barefoot in this song as I sometimes love to go barefoot to reconnect with the Earth.
4. Hero: Has a lot of references to well known hero characters that your kids are sure to recognize. From Luke Skywalker to Captain Jack Sparrow to Indiana Jones, etc. this song is great and it makes one realize that we can be heroes too just by what we do and say.
5. Wash Your Face: A great song for any parent who has trouble getting their kid(s) to wash themselves after becoming unrecognizably dirty.
6. Lucy and Tighty: A great play on word song which introduces children to some big words in our vocabulary.
7. Water Balloon: This very repetitious song has one longing to get wet on a hot day :)
8. Antidisestablishmentarianism: Another song that will introduce your child to a very long word from our vocabulary...actually, the longest word!
9. Auctioneer: A great fast talkin' song that will get you wanting to bid on something :)
10. What We Got: This song is about the little things that we should be thankful for and that we should take care of it or it might not be here someday.
11. The Naked Truth: If your child listens to the lyrics of this song I am sure he/she will be in a giggle fit by the time it is over. You can listen to and download this one free HERE!
12. The Extraterrestrials: The imagination runs wild in this fun song about aliens...you know little green men?
13. Sweet Dreams: This CD winds down and ends with this sweet song about dreams. It is a great way to end this CD.

The Okee Dokee Brothers are fun to watch perform as well! With their beards, flannel shirts, overalls and instruments they're sure to be fun listening to around a campfire!
