Ozeri makes the Touch II Digital Kitchen Scale which has some neat features. This scale can weigh things from 0.05 oz to up to 18 lbs (1 g to 8000 g). This is a fabulous capacity range for in the kitchen. It includes 4 high precision GFX sensors that help it weigh accurately and quickly. It also has a large blue LCD screen that is easy to see and read. It is thin and can be stored away effortlessly until use since it hardly takes up any space at all.

The Touch II has Microban antimicrobial product protection. This helps in keeping the tempered glass surface free from stain and odor causing bacteria. This antimicrobial technology won't break down for the life of the scale and works to keep the scale's surface cleaner, 24/7 around the clock.

It has touch sensitive technology. Two touch sensitive buttons: Tare button subtracts the container weight for the net ingredient weight; Unit button converts between lb/oz, g, fl.oz., ml. The Tare button is also the on/off button if pressed down.

My Thoughts:

The Good
I received the Ozeri Touch II Digital Kitchen Scale with Microban in Red Engine color. I like the color because it fits in with my kitchen decor and this scale looks very modern and sleek. I was very impressed at the size and how thin it was. This scale has very little thumbprint in my kitchen, unlike my older more bulky scales. I like that it fits just about anywhere. When I need it I can just pull it out and use it. With the Microban antimicrobial product protection I am not worried about nasty growies anymore and the whole surface is easily wiped clean with a slightly damp rag or sponge, then wiped dry. It seemed to be fairly accurate when I weighed yams for our Candied Yam recipe and beans for our multi bean soup recipe and the large display is easy to read. I also liked that it can weigh up to 18 pounds as well. It will tell you when the batteries are low with a LO reading and the compartment they are held in is easily accessible without anything extra.

The Bad
The scale I received had problems with its touch screen.  The on/off...which is the same as the Tare button was very finicky. You are supposed to be able to press the on/off/tare button briefly to turn on the scale and press and hold for two seconds to turn it off. It would not respond correctly for me and I had to try multiple times to get it to work. I wish there was a third button for the on/off instead of it being the same button as tare then maybe the problem would resolve itself. Also, the batteries are the flat, round lithium type. These are not the kind of batteries I just keep around the house and they are expensive to replace.

Immune Boosting Fire Cider Recipe for Colds and Flu

Fire Cider

Prepare this fall and winter season before things get too cold by making a batch of Fire Cider a.k.a. Master Tonic or Flu Shots. Fire Cider, an all natural cold and flu folk remedy, has been a tradition passed down through the ages of time. This fiery concoction is an immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, warming, decongestant, and helps with circulation & digestion. Its flavor is potent, hot, spicy, pungent, sour and sweet all mixed together.

There are many ways to make this recipe, but most agree upon the basic ingredients of ginger, horseradish, onion, garlic, and chile peppers or cayenne powder. I have included my recipe below with a few variations and other optional ingredients. The outcomes range from super spicy to something that gently warms. It is fun to play with the mixture of the ingredients and see what subtleties you can taste from the differences.

My Fire Cider Ingredients

Ingredients (* = an optional ingredient I used in mine)

• ½ cup ginger root, pealed and grated or pealed and diced (great for stomach problems, digestion, blood circulation, upper respiratory tract infections, cough, and bronchitis)
• ½ cup horseradish root, pealed and grated or pealed and diced (great for a number of things including digestion, blood circulation, upper respiratory tract infections, cough, tonsillitis, sinus infections and bronchitis. anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-septic, stimulant)
• 1 medium onion, pealed and diced (great for a number of things including blood circulation, upper respiratory tract infections, cough. anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant)
• 10 cloves of garlic, pealed and minced or pealed and diced (great for a number of things including coughs, colds, sore throats, blood circulation, viral infections, and bacterial infections. anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti-viral)
• 2 chile peppers like jalapeño, cayenne or habanero peppers, chopped or ¼ tsp ground cayenne or pinch of dried chillies (vitamin C-rich, anti-inflammatory, vasodilator for healthy blood flow)
• *1 lemon, juiced and zested and/or quartered and thinly sliced crosswise (vitamin C-rich, aids digestion, and anti-oxidant)
• *rosemary, several fresh sprigs or 2 tbsp dried (great for a number of things including digestion, cough, stimulating immune system, increases blood flow. anti-inflammatory)
• *1 tbsp turmeric or ¼ cup fresh grated or pealed and diced turmeric (great for a number of things including stomach problems, digestion, cough, and bronchitis, colds. anti-inflammatory, anti-infection, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-oxidant, adaptogen - lessens stress and helps boost immunity)
• *cinnamon, to taste or a couple of cinnamon sticks (great for a number of things including coughs, colds, sore throats, viral infections and bacterial infections. anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-microbial)
• raw unfiltered unpasteurized apple cider vinegar (at least 5% acidity) (great for a number of things including digestion, sore throats, colds, flu, infections. anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-microbial, energy booster, pro-biotic)
• raw local honey, to taste (to be added after a month when herb infused vinegar is ready to be strained to complete the Fire Cider) (great for a number of things including sore throats, colds, coughs, infections. anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-microbial, pro-biotic)

• nutmeg or mace spice powder to taste (great for a number of things including digestion, sleep, blood flow. anti-oxidant, anti-fungal, anti-depressant, immune booster)
• thyme, several fresh sprigs or 2 tbsp dried (great for a number of things including sore throats, coughs, whooping cough, bronchitis, chest congestion, and bacterial infections. anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial)
• basil, several fresh sprigs or 2 tbsp dried (anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory)
• oregano, several fresh sprigs or 2 tbsp dried (anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, nutrient dense)
• prunella a.k.a. all heal or self heal, 1 tbsp freshly chopped or dried leaves (anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-septic)
• hibiscus flowers, 1 tsp dried (vitamin C-rich, anti-oxidant)
• rose hips, small handful (great for chest ailments, coughs, colds. vitamin C-rich)
• elderberries (Sambucus nigra), small handful (great for coughs, colds, flu, bacterial and viral infections and tonsillitis. anti-bacterial, anti-viral, vitamin C-rich, anti-oxidant)
• hawthorn berries, small handful (great for digestion, cardiovascular, circulatory, and respiratory, blood flow. vitamin C-rich, anti-oxidant)
• pomegranate seeds/arils, juiced (vitamin C-rich, anti-oxidant)
• sun-dried tomatoes, small handful diced (vitamin C-rich, anti-oxidant)
• other smallish citrus fruits, juiced and zested and/or quartered and thinly sliced crosswise (vitamin C-rich, anti-oxidant)
• ½-1 tsp black peppercorns (digestive stimulant and expectorant)
• other immune system boosting ingredients you want to add

Equipment

• cutting board
• sharp knife/peeler/grater
• canning funnel
• 1 quart size jar
• parchment or wax paper
• cheesecloth or a large ricer (something to strain it after a month or so)

Directions
After preparing; layer and pack all roots, herbs, spices, vegetables and fruit into a clean 1-quart jar. Pour the apple cider vinegar over the contents, making sure they are covered with it. Tap the side gently to make sure the air bubbles rise to the surface and pop. Place a square of parchment or wax paper under the lid so that it doesn't acidify the metal and cause corrosion or use a plastic lid that fits. Tighten lid onto the jar. Shake well. Compost all peals and scraps.

Compost the lovely scraps.

Let the jar sit and steep for a month or longer in a cool dark place, shaking daily. After the month is up strain and decant the vinegar into a clean jar. Add honey to taste. Refrigerate and use within a year.

Serving Suggestions
Take 1-2 tbsp at the first sign of cold and repeat the dose every 3-4 hours until symptoms subside. If you love spicy hot flavors you could even have a whole shot glass full to ward off the nasties.You can also take it throughout the cold and flu season to prevent symptoms from occurring at all.

Make something out of the ingredients you strained out (if you used cinnamon sticks you can grate them as well. waste not want not!):

• spicy egg/spring rolls
• a spicy veggie pancake
• a spicy pizza
• sautée with meats, tempeh, or tofu for a stir fry, soup, or ingredients for a sandwich or wrap
• mince and add to a chip dip, marinade or condiment
• make up your own

Use the Fire Cider herb infused vinegar to:

• baste or marinate meats, tempeh, or tofu
• drizzle over salads as a dressing
• drizzle over steamed veggies or sautéed greens
• mix it with a condiment like honey mustard to give it an extra kick
• add in soups or chilis
• mix with lemonade or orange juice
• mix with hot water and extra honey to make a warming tea
• anything you think would be yummy

My Thoughts:

I am trying to prepare my new to me house to become a home so that we might be able to share our love and dreams there as a family. Being sick or having a sick child can disrupt everything because of the care involved. This is why keeping a clean orderly house is so important to me. They both have easy to open flip top lids that make it simple to get the wipes out and they are rolled up inside so another pops up when one is pulled out. These can be safely used around kids, pets and food. They don't require rinsing after cleaning surfaces that come in contact with food, paws and little hands. These are great for the cleaning of all hard non porous surfaces where bacteria or unpleasant odors are a concern, including: desks, tables, countertops, food preparation surfaces, floors, appliances, cribs, children's toys, toilet seats, garbage cans and pet habitats.

Bamboobies Review and Giveaway

I received a pair of the washable and reusable Bamboobies regular nursing pads and a pair of their overnights. These are amazing! I was astonished at how incredibly soft they feel. They remind me of the softest cashmere sweater or soft pussy willows! In addition to how comfortable these are to wear they are also very absorbent and wick away from the skin leaving no leaks behind. Method Antibac Cleaner Review and Giveaway

Method's new Antibac cleaners are powered by CleanWell's core technology which uses thymol (thyme extract) for their disinfectants. This powerful ingredient helps to eradicate germs without using bleach and triclosan! I reviewed Seventh Generation cleaning products a while back and was wondering what the difference between Method's Antibac products and Seventh Generation's disinfectant cleaners and wipes. Both, you see, are powered by CleanWell's core technology...both use thymol as the active botanical ingredient to disinfect. CleanWell's core technology kills 99.99% of germs* botanically (specifically: influenza A, H1N1, rhinovirus, staphylococcus aureus, salmonella enterica, pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli) using the active ingredient thymol, a component of thyme oil which is derived from the common herb thyme. *Refer to disinfecting product labels for full details.

I got the answers I wanted from Methods product formulators (Green Chefs). They told me that the key differences between Method Antibac and Seventh Generation's antibacterial products are:

• Fragrance: Method Antibac offers bathroom spray in spearmint and kitchen spray and wipes in lemon verbena. Seventh Generation only has one fragrance for its items, which is lemongrass + thyme.

My thoughts on scent difference: Both Method and Seventh Generation products contain thymol and have the thyme sent. After smelling Seventh Generation's spray cleaners, Method's Antibac products seem to me far less overpowering with the thyme scent because of the lemon verbena and spearmint scents that are added. I can also smell the spearmint and lemon verbena in the Method products a lot more after smelling the Seventh Generation products. I love the spearmint scented one that Method makes for the bathroom because of its calming effect. Spearmint essential oil is known to have some antifungal activity, although less than oregano essential oil which is an ingredient in both cleaners. I also love the lemon verbena scented one for the kitchen that Method makes because lemon scented things are uplifting and one of my favorite scents to clean with.

• Product differentiation: Method's bathroom spray is specially formulated with more cleaning surfactant than the kitchen spray to attack tough bathroom jobs (e.g. soap scum and hard water stains)

My thoughts on how well the products work: I received the all purpose cleaning and disinfecting wipes in lemon verbena, antibacterial bathroom cleaner in spearmint and antibacterial kitchen cleaner in lemon verbena to try out for free from Green and Clean Mom and Method. I love how these products are safe for the environment and for my family. They wipe out unwanted dirt, grime, and germs! These products are great for eradicating flu and other germs without using bleach and triclosan!! I love how clean my kitchen, bathroom, and other surfaces get with these products and with the price so low I am going to definitely buy these again when the products I have run out.

• Sizing difference: Method spray bottles contain 28 oz. and are $3.99 while Seventh Generation spray bottles contain 26 oz. and cost anywhere from $3.74-$6.00. Methods wipes have 35 wet wipes per container and costs $3.99 while Seventh Generation wipes have 35 wet wipes per container and costs anywhere from $3.84-$5.49, although Seventh Generation wipes also have a container containing 70 wet wipes and depending upon where you get it costs anywhere from $5.09-$8.99. Method products are available at national retailers like Target, Lowe’s, Bed Bath & Beyond and Whole Foods as well as at many local grocery and drug stores.
