The Wonder Years Complete Series Deluxe Collectors Edition Review

I received this product free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

I fondly remember watching The Wonder Years religiously on my family's old tube TV (one with with knobs and dials instead of buttons) in the 80's. It was great to sit down and watch something good on TV that the whole family could really enjoy. The show captured how growing up in suburban middle class America was like in the late '60's. After trying to watch all the episodes of all 6 seasons and missing a few episodes because life happens and there were not any DVRs back then, I waited very patiently for the whole shebang to come out on DVD. After 21 years of it being off the air, The Wonder Years has finally made its spectacular debut to DVD through Time Life and StarVista Entertainment! The set was definitely well worth the wait! The Wonder Years Complete Series Deluxe Collectors Edition is all that I hoped it to be and more!

When I received The Wonder Years Complete Series to review I didn't know I would be getting the Deluxe Collectors Edition. This set has exceeded my expectations. When I received the cardboard box that looked like a locker I thought it was going to have a cardboard slipcase inside to hold the DVDs. To my absolute surprise I opened it up to reveal the cute mini metal locker that was inside! I love the metal locker that everything can be stored in and it fits just perfectly on my DVD shelf, like it was meant to be there. I also love that there is a sheet of magnets that say things like "I ♥ Winnie Cooper", "I ♥ Keven Arnold", "Kennedy Wildcats", etc. to decorate the mini locker with. Along with the 26 DVDs that were neatly tucked into 2 separate cases (one for seasons 1-3 and the other for seasons 4-6) this set has a cute replica yearbook that I loved looking through and two notebooks with information about the episodes that were very interesting to read.

THE COMPLETE SERIES LOCKER INCLUDES:
  • All 115 Episodes on 26 DVDs housed in a mini collectible metal locker.
  • Two notebooks with detailed episode information.
  • A replica yearbook with behind-the-scenes photos and signatures by the cast and crew.
  • Custom magnets to decorate your locker!
  • Plus over 23 hours of bonus features including: The first Cast Reunion in 16 years, Exclusive interviews with the creators, cast and crew; Newly-produced featurettes, And never-before-seen outtakes of Kevin and Winnie s first kiss!

If you haven't seen The Wonder Years series, you really should. This comedy/drama is really well made and shows what it might have been like to live in the 60's. The coming of age story follows young, 12 year old Kevin Arnold through his life growing up, from his first kiss with Winnie Cooper to his friendship with Paul Pfeiffer and everything that follows. They are at times funny, sad, happy, heartwarming, and just plain WONDERful. They have great music in the episodes too that include more than 300 songs as they were featured in the original broadcasts by artists like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Joni Mitchell, James Brown and many more. The DVD collection has so many neat bonus features too. It was really fun to see the outtakes of the kiss and I loved the cast reunion too. The series is well worth the watch!

My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Spooktacular Pony Tales DVD Review

I received this DVD for free to facilitate this review. This post contains affiliate links which means I may receive a commission if you click a link and make a purchase. Thank you for supporting my blog!

Halloween is just around the corner. I know that my family will be enjoying the night trick-or-treating in costume. My girls both have picked one of the My Little Pony Mane Six to dress up as this year. My daughter Teela is going to be Pinkie Pie and my daughter Zari is going to be Princess Twilight Sparkle. My mom put both costumes together with various found items. They are going to be adorable! I cannot wait!

To continue with the pony theme for the night, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Spooktacular Pony Tales DVD has 6 spooky episodes and a sing-along of Bats! for enjoying on Halloween Nightmare Night. This collection is definitely 20% spookier! The DVD also comes with a boo-tiful full color collector poster perfect for holiday decorating and fun pumpkin carving stencils!

DVD Description:
Join your favorite residents of Ponyville — Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie and, of course, Spike — as they take on some of the spookiest adventures Equestria’s ever seen! Time to gather around and hold on tight, because these six exciting tales are a chillingly good romp.

Episodes Include:
  • Boast Busters: The Great and Powerful Trixie comes to Ponyville boasting she is best magical pony and eventually challenging the modest Twilight Sparkle to a magic duel. Will the arrogant Trixie ever be humbled?
  • Stare Master: While ponysitting the fillies, Fluttershy notices that they have snuck out and ventured into the creepy Everfree Forest. Can Fluttershy save them when danger comes?
  • Luna Eclipsed: Princess Luna comes to visit Ponyville for Nightmare Night and is having trouble fitting in. Will everypony accept her present form and forget about her evil past?
  • Sleepless In Ponyville: While camping with the other ponies and listening to ghost stories, Scootaloo must learn to face her fears.
  • Castle Mane-ia: Applejack and Rainbow Dash compete in a scary castle to see which pony is bravest. Who will become the champion?
  • Bats!: Sweet Apple Acres' apple trees are being attacked by vampire fruit bats. Applejack and Fluttershy can't agree on how to handle the situation. Twilight steps in to help, but her spell backfires on Fluttershy changing her into a vampire bat pony. Will they ever come to an understanding and help their friend in time?

If you haven't seen My Little Pony Friendship is Magic with your kids, I urge you to. My whole family enjoys the episodes...even my husband and my teenage boys! The show has wonderful morals and a great storyline. Since we are huge fans of My Little Pony (MLP) Friendship is Magic (FIM), my family had seen all of the episodes from Spooktacular Pony Tales before, but We enjoyed watching these episodes again. Also, this compilation is great because you have the spookiest episodes right at your fingertips for watching on Halloween Nightmare Night.

The bonuses were really cool. My kids loved the poster and hung it up in the boys room. It features Princess Luna reading from a book of scary tales to the costumed Cutie Mark Crusaders. I love the play on words that the writers use for the episode titles as well as the title and authors name on the book Luna is reading on the poster, Tales From the Hayloft by Edgar Allan Pony. The words at the top of the poster are in lyrical rhyme like how Zecora speaks. The pumpkin carving stencils feature Nightmare Moon on one side and Trixie on the other.

PBS Kids Super WHY and the Beach Day Mystery Review

I admit that this is my very first episode that I have ever watched of  Super WHY. I received a advance previewing copy free so that I could review it as well as tell you about the show on PBS Kids. Super WHY is a preschool TV series on PBS Kids that teaches the basics of reading through interactive storybook adventures. Teela enjoyed watching it and was following along with saying the letters of the alphabet before they said them. I liked that the show was educational. This brand new episode is supposed to air July 12. The Super Readers (Whyatt, Pig, Red Riding Hood, and Princess Pea) set off on a swashbuckling scavenger hunt filled with clues, pirates, and of course, treasure. Super Why (Whyatt's superego) and his friends, who all turn into superheros with different reading powers, need help as they try to outsmart a very tricky pirate. I won't spoil the ending for anyone who wants to watch the episode.

The literary experts from Super WHY have created a fun and educational newsletter that includes great tips to keep the family reading even, while enjoying fun in the sun! Click on it to make it bigger.
