Goodnight My Darling Dear is a children's book by Amy (Kavs) Kavelaris. Amy is a illustrator and artist that does impressionistic bohemian art. She has three small girls and a husband that are her world. This book is dedicated to her littles. It is whimsically illustrated and poetically written. This adorable book brings a bedtime blessing to celebrate the wonder of childhood and what God has in store for all your little one is becoming.

Our Thoughts:

We loved this gorgeous hardcover kids book with dust jacket. The illustrations are so lovely! On the first page it allows you to personalize it with who it is to, who it is from, and a date. It has such delightful pictures of parent-and-child animal pairs. We love the rhyming too. The words are filled with positive sentiments. There are words within the poetry that are in a different font and in color to emphasize them and make then stand out because these words hold special meaning. I love that this book makes the child feel good about themselves, reaffirms that they can be be true to themselves and do great things with their lives. This is the perfect bedtime book to settle your little one down for the night because it ends with the child saying their prayers and going to sleep. I highly recommend this book to anyone with little ones.

God Bless You & Good Night Book Review and Giveaway

I received this book free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

God Bless You & Good Night is a hardcover children's book written by Hannah C. Hall and illustrated by Steve Whitlow. Adorable animals and rhyming verses grace the pages of this book to help soothe your little one to slumberland. This book helps remind children of God's blessings and how much they are loved as they nod off to sleep at night.

Some of the pages in the God Bless You & Good Night book.

What We Thought:
This lovely family-friendly story from the A God Bless Book series is perfect for young ones because of its rhyming verse and gorgeous illustrations by Steve Whitlow. This book portrays snugly animal parents that are getting their offspring ready for bed. They go through a bedtime routine of: seeing the night sky, eating a bedtime snack, having a warm bath, putting on jammies, reading a story, getting comfy, counting blessings, hugging, praying, singing a lullaby, saying I love you, getting a teddy bear and blanket to sleep with, counting sheep, closing eyes, turning on a nightlight, and tucking in. The sweet rhymes are sometimes silly, but also lovely.

I feel that this book makes the bedtime ritual go on a bit too long. If you are trying to get your children to bed quickly this might not be the best book for you. I think this book might be better for evening time not right before bed because it does cover just about the whole bedtime routine and not really helping lull your child off to sleep until the end. It also misses the teeth brushing part of our bedtime routine. I don't have a working bathtub, so we don't do the warm baths...just showers which we do not do every night anyway. I also feel snack time shouldn't be right before bedtime. So, this book has me a little conflicted. I do like the book, but it might be better read when each of these bedtime things are being done because otherwise your child will be asking for all the things that the critters in the book are getting when you are trying to get them to go to sleep. I might have to omit the snack and bathtub pages completely if I decide to read this again.

Putumayo Kids Latin Dreamland CD Review and Giveaway

I love music from Putumayo Kids! They are a great company that produces high quality music for kids that is both multicultural and educational. I received the Putumayo Kids Latin Dreamland CD for free to facilitate this review.

Latin Dreamland is a new album by Putumayo Kids that takes you on a dreamy lullaby journey through South America. This soothing CD has both traditional and new songs that are great for relaxing and for bedtime. I love this CD. It was nice to listen to when winding my kids down for the night. The only song I recognized was the last one. I am ashamed to say that I took 3 years of Spanish in high school and don't remember too much of it. I guess the saying that if you don't use it you lose it is correct. Fortunately for me the track note insert was filled with information about each track in English :)

The first song is about a little bunny and the lullaby its mother sings to lull it to sleep. The second is about the moon peaking in to see if the little one is asleep. The third is about the night. The forth is a love song about a pretty gardener who is sad because one of her flowers died. The fifth one is a sad story about a dove who sings for his long lost love. The sixth one is about echos in the Andes Mountains. The seventh song is sung to the children of the south from colder climates and is called Cradle of Ice. The eighth song is about a kind of tree that lives in the rainforest in Brazil and the Amazon and how it has survived a fire. The ninth song is about a waltz. The tenth song is actually traditionally sung in a style called ranchera and is played faster, but this is done slower here in a lullaby by the artist.

Track Listing:
  1. Silvia Schujer with Julieta Szewach and Mariano A Fernandez - Este era un Conejo - (Argentina)
  2. Maruca - Cancion de cuna - (Mexico)
  3. Márcio Faraco - Noite de Lembrar - (Brazil)
