Our Thoughts:

The Cave Tools Marinade Meat Injector Kit is great to use in the kitchen or outdoors around the grill! This meat marinade injector is the perfect tool to use to infuse meat with their own juices or marinades that make them so much more tender, moist, and flavorful. We used this with a pork pot roast I infused inside with its own juices. It made the roast so much more luscious.

Cave Tools Marinade Meat Injector Syringe Kit in use.

I can see that this will last a long time because the quality is fabulous. The needles screw on to the barrel and I love that it has three different ones for different meats and liquids. I love that this draws up liquids easily into the barrel for injecting and you can see clearly how much and what you are drawing up and injecting with the window. Even with the thickest marinades it doesn't clog. It is so sturdy and the needles don't bend even when you hit a bone. This looks like professional restaurant quality and has a wonderful lifetime satisfaction guarantee!

It seems like it is easy to clean and put away. It says it is top rack dishwasher safe on the website and looks like it does come apart more for cleaning from the picture, but I didn't see any instructions on how to take it apart to clean it. So, to clean it I drew up hot water and a little dish soap then a hot water rinse into the barrel squirting it out the needle. Then I sucked air in and out of the syringe to dry.  I like that the needles unscrew from the base and you can place it neatly back into the padded box it came in to keep it all together and organized. It also came with extra gasket o-rings so when or if they fail they can be replaced easily.

Cave Tools Marinade Meat Injector Syringe Kit box makes the parts organized and easily found.

This will be used in my kitchen a lot and will love trying it when we are grilling meat on the BBQ next. I highly recommend the Marinade Meat Injector Kit from Cave Tools!

Cave Tools Smoker Box is perfect for smoking on the grill!

Our Thoughts:
We filled the Cave Tools Smoker Box with dry Mesquite wood chips (you can choose what ever flavor dry wood chips you like) and closed the hinged lid. The wood chip box holds a little over 2 cups. I loved that it is stainless steel and it looked fairly heavy duty and well constructed for multiple uses.

We got the coals hot on our charcoal grill until they looked white. Then we put the Smoker Box directly on the coals, placing the grill grate over it. We put our meat, which was a 2 pound London Broil, on the grill and seared both sides for about 5-7 minutes. After about 10-15 minutes from the time we put the smoker box on the coals we began to see smoke come from the holes in the top of the smoker box lid. We then put the lid on so that the smoke would work its magic. We smoked the meat about 12 minutes, took it off the grill, and let it rest on a plate for about 5 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain with a sharp knife and eating.

The London Broil was delicious! It was smoked to perfection and the flavor of the Mesquite penetrated all the way through the meat. Check out the Cave Tools Meat Smoking Guide for a full list of all wood flavors and smoking temperatures.

After the coals and smoker box cooled down I retrieved it from the BBQ so I could see how it fared. The stainless took on a bit of a smokey color and the lid warped a tiny bit, but all in all I am very satisfied with this product. It did its job well and upon opening the container the wood chips were all spent and blackened. Since the Cave Tools Smoker Box only has holes in the top the wood chips don't catch fire and they don't need soaked. I love this smoker box better than any I have used in the past. I highly recommend the Cave Tools Smoker Box.

Cave Tools Beer Can Chicken comes out tender and juicy.

Our Thoughts:
I used the Cave Tools Beer Can Chicken product with a 4.3 pound chicken and placed Root Beer in the stainless steel can it came with after locking it in place and then placed the lid with the holes on it. The chicken was already thawed and ready to go. After I took out the giblets and neck I rubbed some Spike seasoning and a special blend of herbs I made on the outside of the chicken and placed the chicken onto the can holding it by the wings as it was lowered onto the canister. I noticed that the chicken was very stable on the product. I also put potatoes which I had poked with a fork first onto the 4 skewers that went on each side. I used my oven to cook the bird because it has been raining here in Oregon. I took out all but one rack, placed it at the lowest setting in the oven, and preheated the oven to 375°. I baked the chicken in the oven for about an hour and a half. When I got it out with my oven mitts it was the perfect internal temperature and when I sliced the meat it was juicy and very tender.

I loved the Cave Tools Beer Can Chicken better than other beer can products I have seen or tried. I loved how the chicken was so easy to get on and off the can. Since it locked into place it didn't get stuck inside the chicken. Since the canister has more holes in the top than a regular can it steamed the chicken evenly from the inside out making it perfect. The tray caught all the drippings and didn't make a mess in my oven. I also gave the cooled off drippings to my dog over his dog food so to not waste it and he loved it. You could also make it into a good gravy for your baked potatoes. The rack that held the can and sat in the tray was well built and made the chicken very stable so it didn't fall over or wobble. The veggie spikes were a very handy addition so that I could cook potatoes, corn, or another veggie at the same time as the chicken. This was a bit more difficult to clean by hand because of the grease, but if I had a dish washer machine I could see that it would be a breeze.

The chicken was very moist and delicious. My family and guests said it was the best chicken they have ever had. The Root Beer didn't give it too much of a Root Beer flavor, but it sure did make it nice and juicy on the inside and crispy skin on the outside. I am excited to try other liquids in the canister...I might try Ginger Beer or OJ next time. Half a canister seems to do the trick. Once the weather here gets a little nicer I would like to try it on my grill outside. I am very happy with the Cave Tools Beer Can Chicken and highly recommend it!

Camerons Corn On The Cob Grilling Basket and Pizza Grilling Pan Review

I received the Camerons Corn On The Cob Grilling Basket and Pizza Grilling Pan free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

I have been having fun grilling this summer. Corn on the cob is one of my absolute favorite summertime foods. I love it different ways: seasoned just right, sweet and juicy, or just with butter. All are so delicious. There are many ways of cooking corn on the cob. My favorite way is to grill over my fire pit or on a charcoal grill. The smokey flavor can not be beat. I used to grill my corn on the cob inside their husks over the fire because I did not want the corn to burn and it held the juices in close to the kernels so they were nice and luscious, but recently Camerons gave me the opportunity to try out their Corn On The Cob Grilling Basket so a new way of grilling corn was introduced to me. They also let me try out their Pizza Grilling Pan. I had never tried pizza on the grill before, so this was something very new to me.

About the Camerons Corn On The Cob Grilling Basket:
    • Evenly cooks and holds up to 4 ears of corn.
    • Secure locking basket lets you easily and safely flip the corn over on the grill.
    • Has an extra-long 9-inch rosewood handle to keep you away from the heat.
    • 100% nonstick grilling surface for easy clean up. Hand wash only.
    • Great for grills, fire pits, and campfires.
    • MSRP: $12.99

About the Camerons Pizza Grilling Pan:
    • Has perforated cooking surface to ensure even cooking.
    • Great for both regular and deep dish pizza.
    • Also works well with: chicken, shrimp, vegetables and more!
    • Extra-high side walls prevents food from falling off.
    • 100% nonstick grilling surface and dishwasher safe for easy clean up.
    • Wooden handle unclips for compact, easy storage.
    • MSRP: $14.99

Camerons Pizza Grilling Pan and Corn On The Cob Grilling Basket.

Grilling with Camerons Corn On The Cob Grilling Basket was super easy and the corn tasted great. First you slide the locking mechanism out of the way and open up the grilling basket. Then lay husked corn (up to 4 ears) horizontally in each of the four grooves. Trim to fit if necessary. Close up the basket and fasten with the loop at the base of the handle. Place the basket over the grill, fire pit, or campfire. Turn the corn over when side begins to brown. Once the corn is done set the basket with the corn it it aside. Be careful! The basket might be hot if you decide to open it right away. We loved how the corn tasted and it was still juicy even though it was not cooked in the husk. It was also easier to see when the corn was done using the basket and it is perfect to use with my Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill because the corn no longer wants to roll off of it while cooking. It is such a wonderful grilling accessory and tool!

I love homemade pizza and Camerons Pizza Grilling Pan is wonderful for making pizza right at home, just how you like it topped. It is a great companion for a propane or charcoal grill with a lid. I found that if you don't use a lid while cooking the pizza it tends to want to burn on the bottom. It is even easier cooking pizza with a propane grill with this because you can set it to medium high heat for a more controlled cooking. My kids had fun helping make the pizza and it was a great family activity! Personally I love deep dish pizza, so this pan was perfect for that because of the high walls! I love that you can detach the handle for easy cooking with the grill lid on and convenient, space-saving storage after it is done being used. I am excited to try to cook other things in it besides pizza too.

Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill Review and Great Pit Grilling Tips for the 4th of July!

I received the Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

    10 Great Pit Grilling Tips...
    1. Check to make sure fire pits are permitted wherever you are before starting a fire.
    2. Make sure the fire is properly enclosed by rocks, bricks or other flame-resistant material.
    3. Use only dry, seasoned wood for cooking over a fire pit. Green wood will not burn well and produces too much smoke. Dead wood is better for a clean-burning, high-temperature fire. Using charcoal briquettes for your grill’s heat? Then light the coals about 30 minutes before cooking.
    4. Want a great grill that is portable to take with you camping, fishing, etc., get Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill!
    5. Keep a bucket of water nearby in case you need to put out the fire. Have a spray bottle full of water nearby your grill in cause of flare-ups.
    6. Wash everything after handling raw meat, and don’t reuse the plate that you used for uncooked meat.
    7. Experiment with different types of marinades, seasonings and rubs to give your food extra flavor. Marinade meat overnight for best results.
    8. Use a spatula or tongs to move and flip your food. Keep high-heat resistant oven mitts or grilling gloves nearby to use if needed.
    9. Before, in between and after cooking keep your grill grate clean with a long handled stiff wire brush.
    10. Distinguish the fire when you are done with it. Use a small shovel to to stir/breakup the wood, coal and ash. Then sprinkle with water and continue to do this until no more steam rises and you hear no hissing steam. Let it sit for a good 10 minutes and "feel" (get close to the ash and coal, but not touching it) if there is any more heat coming from the fire with the back of your hand. If there is still some sprinkle with more water.

About the Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill:
    • Great for camping, beach parties, fire pits, open fires, camp fires, outdoor activities, etc.
    • Extra-large 17 ¾” round non-stick grilling area with adjustable height. No tools required.
    • Nonstick Stainless Steel grilling surface.
    • Holds up to 12 lbs. of food and specially designed arm allows grate to stay firm when loaded.
    • Product can easily swing away from the fire to load or unload food.
    • Easy to clean, dishwasher safe.
    • Easy to store, portable, and comes with a convenient carrying bag.
    • MSRP: $39.99

Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill used with a fire pit.

    My Thoughts:
The Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill is a very handy lightweight, portable grill. I love that it has a bag to carry it with the gear to a campsite and since it doesn't weigh much it is perfect for taking backpacking. The assemblage of the whole thing is very straightforward. The post/pole comes in two pieces and screws together. I love that is is so adjustable and swings away from the fire so you can build the fire or load and unload food easier.

We noticed a few different things when using the Camerons Open-Fire Pit Grill. It is made in China. We found that you will need a set of high-heat resistant oven mitts or grilling gloves to use because the screw mechanism to adjust it gets super hot sitting over the fire and you might need to adjust it more than once. You will also need some for swinging it away from the fire. Tongs also work great for this. The grill's post that is used to secure it in the ground will need pounded into the ground pointy end down by a good size rock or mallet. This post had a black coating that was flaking off when we received it. The grate does warp and get blackened a little while over the fire holding the food. The blackening is just smoke and will come off with a good washing. Since it does have only one post on one side of the grate, it does tend to shift and is not level when loaded with food to grill. Foods like corn on the cob or potatoes like to roll off if not positioned well on the grill surface.

I decided that I wanted to first use this on our farm over my fire pit to see how it performed before we took it camping. We made corn on the cob, bratwursts, and toast on it. If you have aluminum foil on hand you can also bake potatoes and fish, make S'mores, etc. It is super simple to clean even without a dishwasher and the nonstick grilling surface makes it wonderful to grill with without having food stuck to the grate; however we did try to grill a S'more straight on the grilling surface and it wouldn't come off until scraped with our grill brush, so better to use foil for some things, I guess. It did very well with most everything we grilled on it though and the smokey flavor was a wonderful departure from our traditional propane powered grill.

Camerons Stovetop Smoker Review, Homegating Tips, and Alder Smoked Salmon Spread Recipe

I received the Camerons Stovetop Smoker and Wood Chips free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

Homegating, throwing a sports viewing party at home, is becoming more and more popular because of the increased prices of sporting events and bad weather surrounding some games. The cost to attend these events is getting too expensive and then even after you have spent all that money for a ticket there are traveling, boarding, food, drink, parking, and memorabilia costs. Homegating is so much easier than tailgating and your wallet will be a lot happier. There is really no place like home for the big game!

Here are 10 tips to make your Homegating an awesome crowd pleasing experience...
    1. Decorate your home inside and out like a champion with your favorite team's colors and logos. Banners, streamers, balloons, buntings, flags, coasters, wall stickers, lights, throw pillows, throws, etc., make the party more inviting. If you are having a backyard homegate make sure your patio/deck is cleaned, prepared, decorated with seating and patio heater/firepit to keep everyone comfy.
    2. Dress up with your favorite team's jersey and colors. Go all out and let everyone know whose side you are rooting for by painting your face, hair, and/or nails.
    3. Have the big screen and sound system ready for action.
    4. Have enough cozy seating for your you and your guests where all can enjoy the game.
    5. Make sure to have enough yummy, mouthwatering food (smoked or grilled meat, sides, desserts, snacks, dips and sauces, etc.) and beverages (don't forget the non-alcoholic cocktails and soda pop!) on hand and more than enough refrigerator/table/cooler space to store it all before and during the game.
    6. Keep your food warm with a slow cooker crock and your drinks cool with a ice chest.
    7. Make sure your grill is cleaned, prepped, and in great working order with enough propane or charcoal to get you through before you start grilling.
    8. Go the extra mile with a Camerons Stovetop Smoker and Camerons Wood Chips for fantastic smoked meat and veggies!
    9. Have fun activities ready to occupy your guests during breaks and/or commercials.
    10. Don't forget your camera, tablet, or smartphone. You don't want to miss taking pictures of your guests and spread, or telling your social media outlets scores and play-by-plays of super moves.

    My Thoughts:
I love Camerons Stovetop Smoker! I've never had an indoor smoker and this makes smoking meat and veggies super easy. Since it is stainless steel it is simple to clean too! We received the smoker and the two samples of wood chips that came with it in the box were Hickory and Oak. I also got a larger tub of Alder wood chips separately. I decided to make an Alder Smoked Salmon according to the directions that came with the Stovetop Smoker and make it into a yummy dip or spread for crackers. I did find that the cooking time was about 55 minutes for a 2 pound fish instead of the 25 they suggest; although, my salmon was thick. I also added foil to the drip plate and sprayed the rack with olive oil for easier cleanup. My house smelled so good while the salmon was being smoked! Make sure you have your overhead stove vent on because it does smoke a little out the corners of the lid. This would be an easy, delicious side to make pre-game so that it can chill in the fridge prior to game day.

    Alder Smoked Salmon Spread Recipe
    • 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
    • 12 ounces Alder smoked salmon, flaked
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried dill
    • 2 tablespoons chopped green onion
    • 3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
    • 3 drops hot pepper sauce
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (about 1 medium lemon squeezed)
Whip the cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Place in fridge to chill about an hour. Serve with crackers.

    Sizzling Summer

My husband's Birthday always falls on today, June 21st which is also the First Day Of Summer (Summer Solstice), so to celebrate his Birthday I want to do a little tribute to my favorite things of Summer, besides him of course!...
I absolutely love watermelon! They are so good for you because of the high water content and they taste so juicy and sweet!

Refreshing beverages like lemonade, iced sun tea, soda floats, and homemade fruit smoothies are great to quench your thirst after a long hot day. Frozen fruit, homemade Popsicles and ice cream are also great to cool one down.

I love great outdoor cooking! Barbecuing on a grill outdoors makes the food taste so good! I love a good shish kabob!

Playing water games are great fun to cool off! This is my son Delbin when he was 2 years old playing in our kiddie pool. Besides the pool my kids love to play in the sprinkler and squirt water guns at each other :) I used to go ice blocking down grassy hills when I was a teen.

Summer is the time to camp! Don't forget the marshmallows to make S'mores!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband, Brian!!

What do you love to do during the Summer?? How do you stay cool? I'd love to read your comments!
