Julie Elias A Girl Like Me Album Review and Giveaway

I received this CD free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

Julie Elias is a Christian singer and songwriter who discovered happiness in Christ when being an actress in Hollywood was not making her content. She had fame and appeared in shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI:NY”, but she was not fulfilled and felt like something was missing. She turned to God to guide her and Christian music became her voice to encourage others with her stories in song. In 2014, she founded Aurora Ministries, a 501c3 non-profit that creates Christian material and events specifically for teen and tween girls. Through music, booklets, blogging, conferences and girls’ events, Julie has been able to share God’s role in her life - even when she didn’t think He was there - and find common ground to inspire young women all over the world.

A Girl Like Me is her fifth studio album. It will be available on all digital music outlets, including iTunes, on October 27, 2017. This album is a companion to her girls' events and all the original songs on the album have purpose and stories behind them. This album is for women everywhere, regardless of what stage of life. It reminds us all that despite our failures and stubbornness, we need to “still believe a girl like me could be worthy of a King."

What I Thought:
This CD is so open and candid. Julie speaks from experience with her heart. I love the song Unchained because it shows her giving herself to God and letting Him take her burdens away. She spells out her vulnerabilities and lets Him help her through them because she knows He loves her for just the way she is.

We are all flawed, but God loves us anyway. This CD helps us remember that God is with us and will help us through troubled times. He knows us better than I think we know ourselves and He will forgive us of our failings if we let Him.

I recommend this album. It is so inspiring and wonderful. Julie has a beautiful voice and I hope she makes many more albums to share her feelings and faith with.

Recess Monkey Deep Sea Diver CD Review

We received this CD free to facilitate this review. This post has affiliate links. Thanks for supporting my blog.

Recess Monkey is composed of three teachers who make music. They are a Seattle, Washington based group who have made a name for themselves with their happy Kindie Rock style. They incorporate fun puns and jokes into their lyrics to keep it entertaining. Their music is great for both kids and parents.

I had heard of Recess Monkey before through my kids. They had asked me one night to put some music on and specifically asked for Recess Monkey. So, I looked them up and their page has a music player that streams their music to it. We listened and danced and had loads of fun.

Their next album, Deep Sea Diver, I had to have because I love the ocean and the song titles sounded so fun. I was given the chance to get the CD free for review. I loved the lyrics to each song and so do my kids. I absolutely love The Deep End, Beach Ball, and The Seven Cs! I can relate to the song Shrimp, LOL! Recess Monkey reminds me of The Beatles or The Monkees except for kids....well, and parents. This undersea themed album is very catchy and imaginative.

Track Listing:
  1. Tambourine Submarine
  2. Fish Sticks
  3. The Deep End

Give Up The Ghost by Brandi Carlile Review

ABOUT BRANDI CARLILE:
Born in the small town of Ravensdale, WA, Brandi Carlile grew up listening to the classic country music her parents loved (Patsy Cline remains Carlile's favorite singer). She made her first stage appearance at the age of 8 after she was taken to a local country radio show by her mother. At 17 she was inspired to learn to play guitar after seeing the Indigo Girls in concert at Lilith Fair and having developed a taste for rock & roll through Elton John's classic albums of the 1970s (Tumbleweed Connection is one of her favorites) she began hitting the clubs in Seattle, playing anywhere she could get a gig. While playing, she heard a band called the Fighting Machinists, featuring twin brothers Tim Hanseroth on guitar and Phil Hanseroth. Carlile became an instant fan and when the group broke up she persuaded the Hanseroth twins to form a group with her. In 2005 Carlile was signed to Columbia Records, releasing a self-titled album later that same year. Her last album, The Story, debuted on Billboard's Top 200, peaking at #2 on iTunes and was named one of VH1's "You Oughta Know" artists. Also many of her songs were featured on various episodes of "Grey's Anatomy". She's toured with Tori Amos, Dave Mathews Band, Sheryl Crow and many others.

ABOUT GIVE UP THE GHOST:
Give Up The Ghost was released by Columbia Records on October 6th. Brandi's dream was realized recording Give Up The Ghost. She got the opportunity to work with her idol, Elton John. “Brandi has an amazing voice,” he says. “She’s a great songwriter and has a tremendous career ahead of her.” The album was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, birthplace of legendary recordings by The Doors and Led Zeppelin. The first single, “Dreams,” was written with her longtime bandmates, twin brothers Tim and Phil Hanseroth. The CD includes special guest appearances by Sir Elton John, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls and Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

MY THOUGHTS:
I was given downloads of all her songs on the Give Up The Ghost album by One2One Network to review. Brandi was here in Portland, OR on Oct 22 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and I wish I could have gone to the concert...maybe next time she tours. Her CD, Give Up The Ghost, is fabulous! I am a big fan of the Indigo Girls and Brandi worked with Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls on this CD! My friend commented while I was listening to her music that Brandi reminds him of Radio Head. You can really hear the influence of Elton John in the song Caroline! Elton John is a great performer and artist! If you like Indie pop or folk rock you will LOVE her. Her voice is rich and strong. I love singing along with this CD! I could not pick just two songs as my favorite. My favorite songs on this CD are Looking Out, Dying Day, Caroline (about Brandi's niece) and Touching The Ground.

One of the radio stations I listen to out here in Oregon is Kink FM and they had her perform at their Live Performance Lounge. Here is her performing Dreams there...

BUY IT:
Buy this CD on Amazon.com for only $8.49! You can also go listen to samples of the songs there too.
