“Dragonkyn” Summary:
Marc used to think he was pretty ordinary, but he also used to think ice cream trucks didn’t sell ice cream and dragons were just fairy tales. Now he knows better. With skin that can’t be burned and strange powers he can’t explain, Marc soon discovers the truth: he is part dragon. And as he joins his fellow dragonkyn, his closest friends could quickly become his greatest enemies.
About The Author:
Nathan Smith Jones graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in English Literature. The fourth of eight children, he is the author of the Children’s book, “The Boy Who Ate America,” and several other novels and screenplays. He lives with his wife and five children in Utah.
My Thoughts:
Dragonkyn is a action packed young adult fantasy book about a kid who learns that he is part dragon. This 224 page chapter book held my attention from start to finish and is a fairly fast read. This book does not have any profanity or sex, but it does have a lot of violence.
I love the way the dragon powers manifest themselves in the main character, Marc. His transformation is incredible! I also love how the author portrays the Firespew, Erifice and the Vibe. They are thought provoking and extremely cool. I thought that it was neat that the Dragonkyn had a vast array of different powers like: telekinesis, morphing, clairvoyance, telepathy, esp, dragon armor, healing abilities, Firespew (fire breathing weaponized), Erifice (a sort of dragon mind speak with harmless fire), Vibe (a vibration within, the source of all dragon powers and connection to all Dragonkyn to all matter), etc.
The author is wonderful at the character development and capturing the essence of being a teen, even a teen that has to undergo abnormal changes and meet a whole new race of people, his people, the Dragonkyn and the tribe of Dragonkyn in his area called the Sorceron. I also love that there were some strong female characters as well. I love how the mystery unfolded. I cannot wait for the next book in the series because this one has left me with so many questions!

The Cat In The Hat Knows a Lot About Space! DVD Review
I received this product free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.
The Cat In The Hat Knows a Lot About Space! is an adventure which finds the Cat in the Hat, Nick, Sally, and fish on a journey through space in the Space-ama-racer in search for a flying robot dog. While they are there they assist with Operation Rover Repair, when they find out Astronaut Audrey's robot dog Space Rover got entangled in space junk while trying to explore a part of the Solar System. Together, they survive many obstacles and have to work together to make it safely back to the Space Station and Earth!
My Thoughts:
We love Dr. Seuss in my house. We have a large collection of books and I am trying to build my collection of DVDs. The Cat In The Hat Knows a Lot About Space! will be my second DVD for the collection that I hope to grow.
This DVD is from the Dr. Seuss TV series on PBS Kids of The Cat In The Hat Knows a Lot About That! and now that this series is also on Netflix we are enjoying it even more since we don't own a TV. My favorite character has to be Dr. Twiggles. He is quite cooky, but knows his trees very well. I love the Cat in The Hat too of course. Martin Short does a great voice for him :) We love how the show teaches about different things in each episode. I always learn something that I didn't know or had forgotten.
The Cat In The Hat Knows a Lot About Space! is an hour long special that was broadcast on PBS Kids on December 26, 2016. It is now available on DVD. As is with most Dr. Seuss there is a lot of rhyming, but this is not overdone. The characters sometimes are musical and break into song. The lyrics to the songs are catchy and fun. I loved how this movie taught to: work together, cooperate, help each other, problem solve, and never give up. These are such important life lessons. Also, I love how polite and nice everyone are with each other, especially the children with the parents and vice versa. They always ask their mother whether it is OK to go on adventures with The Cat In The Hat even though they know she is going to say yes every time.
I recommend this film for ages two to eight. My daughters who are 6 and 8 enjoyed this so much. As an adult and parent I love these for the educational content and fun learning environment. The Cat In The Hat Knows a Lot About Space! is sure to please.
BUY IT
You can purchase The Cat In The Hat Knows a Lot About Christmas! on Amazon.com for $9.99. Also available for purchase other Cat In The Hat DVDs from NCircle Entertainment, Target, Walmart, Kmart and Toys R Us!

Prince playing with the Kong Wobbler. |
Our Thoughts:
We received the large sized Kong Wobbler for our dog. We used this treat dispensing toy with our large dog, Prince. We followed the directions and waited when he was hungry to try the Kong Wobbler out. He was fairly interested in the whole process and what we were doing. We tried some small treats at first that we had around the house that would easily fit through the opening. The toy was simple to fill.
We then showed Prince the Wobbler in action and how it worked. He got pretty excited when it released the treats onto the floor. Then he decided it was his turn to try and nudged it with his nose. It wobbled back and forth and he jumped back in enthusiasm. It was highly enjoyable for the whole family to watch! My daughters were giggling uncontrollably at the sight.
The Kong Wobbler is a great toy for dogs! It helps your pup get both physical and mental exercise. We recommend the Kong Wobbler to anyone with dogs. Chewy.com is a great place to find the Kong Wobbler and other great items for dogs and cats!

Home School in the Woods HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study: The Middle Ages Review
My family had the privilege of trying the HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study: The Middle Ages from Home School in the Woods for this review to use in conjunction with our own homeschool curriculum. This is a Homeschool Review Crew Review. All opinions expressed are my own or those of my family.
Home School in the Woods is a family run business that creates Christian based history curriculum for homeschooling. This curriculum immerses your student in the topic. It is very hands-on with lapbooks, timelines, recipes, art, creative writing, notebook projects, dramatized audio theater, maps, crafts, projects, re-enactments, file-folder games, vocabulary to learn, etc.
My family got to pick one of four different HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study curriculum: Ancient Egypt (3100 BC to 30 BC), The Middle Ages (400 AD to 1500 AD), Renaissance & Reformation (1100 AD to 1660 AD) and their newest Ancient Greece (6000 BC to 146 BC). Home School in the Woods will also eventually be expanding the series to include studies of Ancient Rome which will be out in 2018! We had already reviewed Ancient Egypt and loved it, so we decided to pick a new one and settled on The Middle Ages because it is sounded like such a fascinating subject. As I have said before, my whole family are history enthusiasts. We also love learning about different cultures and even though we were not new to learning about The Middle Ages, this study didn't disappoint and we learned a lot on the journey.
There are icons that help along one side and buttons that link to nice clear photos of the finished projects. |
The Project Passport World History Studies are a virtual trip through history. These are recommended for grades 3-8. There are two different versions you can purchase, a CD version or a digital download version. With the CD version everything that you access and print is on the CD. With the digital download version you download a zipped file, place all of the contents into a folder on your computer, and access it by the start.htm file that is in that folder. We received the digital download version. This "trip" is supposed to last roughly 6-12 weeks depending upon how quickly everything is completed. For Each Project Passport World History Study you make a passport and "luggage" folder to hold some of the stuff you print off and make along the journey. Each "trip" has 25 chapters called "stops", where you observe action-packed events and meet fascinating people along the way. At each stop you come to there will be "Guide Book Text" which is information for the student to read about a certain topic explored and a "Travel Itinerary" that covers the project choices and directions. There are also helpful icons that let you know what you will be doing and color photos of all the completed projects so you know how they are supposed to look like when finished. There are a lot of printables of information and projects to do. Masters are available for all printables. There are so many things to do on the trip, for example: creating a "Scrapbook of Sights" (notebook for storing the notebook projects), dining on local cuisine with the "Dining out Guide" (recipes to create food and drink that was popular in the area at the time), taking pictures ("Snapshot Moments in History" scrapbook timeline), reporting on important people and happenings (a newspaper creative writing assignment - In The Middle Ages study it is called "The Medieval Times"), making "souvenirs" to remember your stay (craft/art projects), dressing like the locals (clothing of the era: fun dress up craft), making a lapbook, playing games (file-folder games), collecting postcards, listening to tour guides (dramatized audio theater - there are 7 of these), and so much more!
We found that there was a lot of preparation that needed to happen before getting started. There is a lot of things needing printed, items needing prepared for crafts and other projects, and general preparation of materials before one can begin the journey. The Travel Itinerary and Travel Planner: Quick Stop Itinerary helps with this a lot!
You will need a few items to get you through the lessons:
- Working Printer
- Color and Black Ink for the printer to cover all the printing that will be happening
- White and Colored Printer Paper
- White and Colored Cardstock (this is best, but admittedly we didn't have any of this and used only white printer paper and it worked OK)
- One 3-Ring Binder for the Guide Book (teacher binder for Introduction, Travel Tips, Travel Planner: Quick Stop Itinerary, Travel Itinerary, Guide Book Text, and Additional Resources)
- One 3-Ring Binder for the Scrapbook of Sights (student binder for all notebook projects)
- Colored File Folders or Colored Pocket Folders with Fasteners
- Scissors and/or an X-acto Knife (when using an X-acto Knife you will need a thick piece of cardboard or self healing mat to use as a cutting surface)
- Crayons, Markers, or Colored Pencils to color the pictures, if desired
- Glue
- Other Craft supplies specified for each of the different projects that your student wants to do
This is what the HISTORY Through the Ages Project Passport World History Study: The Middle Ages covers:
- Laying the Foundation – Part I: Introduction
- Laying the Foundation – Part II: Barbarians in the South & East
- Laying the Foundation – Part III: Barbarians in the North & West
- Everyday Life – Part I: Family

- Final Stop - Packing Up!
Teela coloring the Scrapbook of Sights Cover. |
How We Used This and Our Thoughts:
I enlisted my daughter Teela who is in 3rd grade this year to learn about The Middle Ages since she loved doing the Ancient Egypt study before. This is supposed to be for 3rd through 8th graders so most of the projects she did very well on. She did need my help with some of the more advanced projects and writing assignments and it took her a lot longer to get through some of the stops than it might have taken for my older boys. I learned quite a bit too while helping her with this study.
Teela making a puppet show with the Medieval Stick Puppets. |
This study, like the first we did, was jam packed with information. I am glad that I already had experience doing this type of program because everything seemed to go faster. The instructions are not hard, but there is a lot of things to set up and print out initially and throughout the program....so be aware of that and set some time aside initially to get things done so you are not overwhelmed. We still have not gotten through all the stops, but we have enjoyed everything that we have done thus far. I love that it is from a biblical Christian perspective too.
Wassail making is fun and delicious! |
Teela really liked our project time together. She loves art and making things. She especially loved making the stick puppets clothed in costume of the era. She even put on a puppet show with our puppet stage. We also made some very yummy Wassail with the Dining out Guide recipe, which everyone enjoyed. We very much enjoyed the audio tour too. We are learning a lot along the stops and are enjoying every moment. These are so much fun!
I highly recommend the Project Passport World History Study: The Middle Ages from Home School in the Woods. This is great for anyone homeschooling who might need some help with teaching The Middle Ages in a highly educational, fun, and very hands-on way. This would also be perfect for those wanting something fun to do with their kids in the summer time. I am looking forward to reviewing more from Home School in the Woods in the future!

The Coobie Store Undie Couture Classic Lace Bralette Review and Giveaway
US Family Guide provided me with this opportunity and I received this product free from The Coobie Store to facilitate this review.
The Coobie Store is a great place online to find great bras, bralettes, sports bandeaus, camisoles, panties, leggings, and more! I absolutely love their Coobie Seamless Bras which I have tried and recommend highly. Since I had not tried the lace bralettes I decided to this time instead of one of the seamless bras.
Undie Couture Classic Lace Bralette is very feminine. It is made with a stretchy lace that is super soft. The cups are lined with a soft, thin nylon blend. There are no pads or wires. The straps are adjustable and include a mid strap hook on the back so that you can wear it in a racerback style. Available in 3 sizes: Small (28A-32D), Medium (32A-34D), Large (36A-38D). This style comes in 10 colors: Black, White, Nude, Charcoal, Ivory, Hot Pink, Driftwood, Plum, Red & Rose. Fabric Content: 93% Nylon, 7% Spandex.
My Thoughts:
I received an Undie Couture Classic Lace Bralette in ivory in medium. This lace bra is not scratchy at all and is super comfortable and buttery soft. I love how pretty and sexy this bralette is. I am very petite so I did not know whether the medium would fit or be too big for me. This bralette fit me really well with no sagging or bunching in weird places. It was also very form fitting and flattering. This bralette, however; does have seams so I did notice they show under a shirt. Ivory is a great color because it isn't too showy under a top.
I am so glad I got to try this bralette because I absolutely love it! I am definitely going to buy more and I so love the plum colored one too! The Coobie Store has sold me on the products I have tried so far. I highly recommend them!

3DLIGHTFX My Little Pony Rainbow Dash 3D Deco Light Review
The 3DLIGHTFX 3D Deco Lights are a neat addition to any room. They come in iconic styles to help decorate the wall and emit a soft glow. You can find Marvel, WB, Nickelodeon, Cars/Jet, sports, Hasbro, Disney, Nature, Star Wars, and Universal themed 3D Deco Lights. Besides 3D Deco Lights they have 3D Minis, Lil Deco Lights, 3D Disc Lights coming soon to their night light products.
The Rainbow Dash 3D Deco Light is one of three My Little Pony styles that 3DLIGHTFX has. The other two are Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle. These are great for nurseries, rec rooms, kids' rooms, hallways, and Brony Caves. My Little Pony fans young and old alike will love these to help create a soft glow to any room.
Features for the 3DLIGHTFX My Little Pony 3D Deco Lights:
- 100% official Hasbro My Little Pony merchandise.
- Cordless, battery operated. (requires 3 AA batteries, not included)
- Never gets hot to touch. Uses energy efficient LED Lights.
- Looks great ON or OFF. Switch on the side is easily accessible.
- Simple to install. Never have to change the bulbs. (includes screws, wall plugs, and wall sticker)
- Great for nurseries, rec rooms, dens, kids' rooms, hallways, and Brony Caves.
- Provides parents the necessary light for midnight changes, feedings, comforting check-ins and, of course, to keep boogie monsters away.
How To Install:
- Follow the instructions that come with product and are on http://www.3dlightfx.com/instructions/ to install. (screws and wall plugs are located inside the battery compartment)
Our Thoughts:
It was tough to choose only one of the 3DLIGHTFX My Little Pony 3D Deco Lights as we think all of them are extremely cool looking. Although I wish they had all the mane-six characters or at least Fluttershy, my favorite MLP mane-six character from the Friendship Is Magic series. We finally chose Rainbow Dash (RD) because we love how colorful she is.
The Rainbow Dash 3D Deco Light came in a small box. We did not expect that the part that was 3D was only her head and that the sticker had her wings. We were hoping that the wings were 3D as well, but this was not well represented in the pictures online of the product. RD is not RD without her wings...so the sticker has to be used. If we decide later to move the light to a different location we are not sure that the sticker can be peeled off the wall and re-stuck. In retrospect we probably should have picked Twilight Sparkle because in the first seasons she never had wings or Pinkie Pie because she is an earth pony with neither wings nor horn and so this would not have mattered as much with them. However; we did notice that extra wall stickers are available from their partners to purchase on their website. We are just not sure how much they are to purchase because they do not say.
The Rainbow Dash 3D Deco Light was fairly easy to install and great looking on the wall too. We just cleaned the wall, installed the sticker, and mounted the light after placing the wall plugs and screws in the wall. It showed us exactly where to place the holes after placing the sticker, so it was all very easy. After installation, it looks like Rainbow Dash is popping straight through the wall. We love that the 3D Deco Lights are battery operated and don't have any unattractive chords running from it. When Rainbow Dash is turned on with a switch on the side she glows with a comforting ambience for 60 minutes straight or until the switch is put in the off position. After the 60 minutes she turns off automatically. In the day time we try to place her switch in the off position to conserve energy.
My whole family loves this night light! We recommend the 3DLIGHTFX 3D Deco Lights to everyone. It is a fairly unique gift that is sure to create a fun atmosphere in any room or hallway. I have my eyes on the new MLP 3D Minis from 3DLIGHTFX as well as the other MLP 3D Deco Lights and the new Nature butterfly ones too!

My Thoughts:
I think it is a pain to put on tights, pantyhose, and stockings. I also do not like them also because they run easily as well. I hate wearing footies or heel socks because they always rub or make my heel blister and raw. Keysocks were the answer to these problems.
I had never seen Keysocks until I was asked to review them. I received a blue pair in girls size, a one size black pair in original fabric (Winter Warm) for fall and winter months, and a one size nude pair in light fabric (Classic) for spring and summer months. The blue pair in a girls size fit my oldest daughter who is 8, but Keysocks don't seem to have that size available on their website anymore. I wish these came in more sizes all the time. My daughters would love more Keysocks in a variety of colors and designs in girls sizes.

I love that they come in the basic black and nude colors, but would love more colors and designs available. I think if they had these in more variety then they would look super cute with shorter dresses, skirts, and capris too! Hopefully when they come out with the Weekend styles they will have more of a variety in that area. I did see a possibility of a striped version on their site coming soon which would be awesome.
Keysocks are so ingenious! They are easy to put on, comfortable to wear, and keep my toes warm. I think they are especially great with long pants, leggings, or jeans, but also wonderful with long skirts and dresses. These let my feet breath and everyone thinks I am wearing only shoes on my feet when worn with long pants or jeans. I love them with my flats and heels!
I love Keysocks! They would be perfect for a unique Valentine's Day Gift or a night out with your sweetheart!

Go Gourmet Slammers Snacks Review and Fun Valentine Printable
With Valentine's Day around the corner, finding healthy treats that won't give kids cavities or bellyaches can be hard. When walking down the Valentine's aisle you will see that stores have stocked the shelves with sweets, chocolate, and candy that are filled with sugar. With diabetes and obesity on the rise among kids, why not offer them a healthier, but fun option for Valentine's this year?
Slammers Snacks are tasty, superfood snacks designed to fuel kids with organic fruits and vegetables such as mangoes, acai berries, beets, sweet potato, carrots, and yumberries. Some even have ancient grains for added nutrition like: chia, quinoa, and amaranth. Not only are they a healthy alternative to sugar-laden candies and convenience store snacks, Slammers are, mess-free, easily digestible, and serve as a great source of essential vitamins. Three new Superfood Smoothie flavors: Creamy Banana Chocolate, Pomegranate Grape Crush, and Watermelon Kiwi Burst come packed with seven grams of protein. Creamy Banana Chocolate is their newest and has the least amount of sugar!
Our Thoughts:
We absolutely love Slammers Snacks! They are so delicious and good for you. We received two cases total with a selection of all the flavors to try. We love them all! I love that they are organic too. My favorite is the New Watermelon Kiwi Burst flavor with added protein. These are in a convenient pouch that lets them easily travel with you for snacks on-the-go.
Slammers Snacks can be given as valentines or placed in lunches with cute lunch notes. I have made some printable Valentine's/Lunch Notes with some Slammer Snacks graphics for you to wrap around your Slammers Snacks when sending them with your kids' lunches or as a special Valentine's Day snack. Click the above graphic to go to the PDF and save it on your computer to print out. Cut around the whole rectangle for each wrap, wrap around the Slammers Snacks, and tape remaining edge to secure it around the superfood smoothie pouches.

Foodie Friday Sweet Pepper & Tomato Crustless Quiche #FoodieFriday
I love living on a farm and owning chickens! One of the benefits of having my 8 hens is the free abundance of farm fresh eggs. We get many different colors and sizes. Sometimes we are blessed with an unusually large egg. I am not sure which one of our hens laid the one shown in the picture, but it turned out to have a double yolk inside!
I also love that I can teach my kids where our food actually comes from. Having it come straight from our own farm is a wonderful teaching and learning experience for them. I believe that this is extremely important for future generations because so many children now grow up thinking that food comes from the grocery store or supermarket. I love that I have this awesome opportunity with my children to teach them gardening, agriculture, home cooking/baking and other dying skills that need to be passed on.
Speaking of home cooking, my kids and I made two Sweet Pepper & Tomato Crustless Quiches the other day for dinner. I love a good quiche and crustless ones are so easy to whip together! My chickens' eggs also make them the best! Here is the recipe for this one...
Sweet Pepper & Tomato Crustless Quiche
Ingredients for one quiche:- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 large sweet pepper; seeded, destemmed and diced (We used a green and red one because we made two quiches, but any color is fine.)
- 5 eggs
- 1 medium onion; peeled and diced
- 3 tablespoons whole milk
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- A handful of dried tomatoes (We had these in a bag from a summer of slicing, dehydrating, and freezing them. If you don't have homemade dried ones I suggest getting some sun dried ones from the store.)
- 1 - 9 inch round pie plate
- 1 whisk
- 1 - 12 inch skillet (I love my cast iron ones!)
- 1 spatula
- 1 mixing spoon
- 1 mixing bowl
- 1 oven with stove top
- Preheat oven to 350°F with rack in the middle.
- Lightly butter the inside of the pie plate to make it nonstick and set it aside.
- Saute the onion and sweet pepper in butter in the skillet over medium-high heat, stirring with the spatula occasionally, about 5 minutes.
- Whisk together eggs and milk in the mixing bowl, then add the onion and sweet pepper mixture and most of the cheese, saving some out to go on top before baking. Fold this mixture together with the mixing spoon.
- Pour this mixture into the pie plate, sprinkling the last of the cheese on top.
- Take the handful of dried tomatoes and place them evenly on top.
- Bake uncovered until top is golden and egg blend has set in center, about 35 minutes.
- Cool slightly, about 10 minutes, before cutting into wedges.
- Enjoy!
