Our Thoughts:

The Cave Tools Marinade Meat Injector Kit is great to use in the kitchen or outdoors around the grill! This meat marinade injector is the perfect tool to use to infuse meat with their own juices or marinades that make them so much more tender, moist, and flavorful. We used this with a pork pot roast I infused inside with its own juices. It made the roast so much more luscious.

Cave Tools Marinade Meat Injector Syringe Kit in use.

I can see that this will last a long time because the quality is fabulous. The needles screw on to the barrel and I love that it has three different ones for different meats and liquids. I love that this draws up liquids easily into the barrel for injecting and you can see clearly how much and what you are drawing up and injecting with the window. Even with the thickest marinades it doesn't clog. It is so sturdy and the needles don't bend even when you hit a bone. This looks like professional restaurant quality and has a wonderful lifetime satisfaction guarantee!

It seems like it is easy to clean and put away. It says it is top rack dishwasher safe on the website and looks like it does come apart more for cleaning from the picture, but I didn't see any instructions on how to take it apart to clean it. So, to clean it I drew up hot water and a little dish soap then a hot water rinse into the barrel squirting it out the needle. Then I sucked air in and out of the syringe to dry.  I like that the needles unscrew from the base and you can place it neatly back into the padded box it came in to keep it all together and organized. It also came with extra gasket o-rings so when or if they fail they can be replaced easily.

Cave Tools Marinade Meat Injector Syringe Kit box makes the parts organized and easily found.

This will be used in my kitchen a lot and will love trying it when we are grilling meat on the BBQ next. I highly recommend the Marinade Meat Injector Kit from Cave Tools!

WorthyKids The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls Book 3 & 4 Review

My family had the privilege of reading the third and fourth books in the series, The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls from WorthyKids, an imprint of Hachette Book Group for this review to use in conjunction with our own curriculum. This is a Homeschool Review Crew Review. All opinions expressed are my own or those of my family.

WorthyKids is an imprint of the Hachette Book Group. WorthyKids/Ideals has kids' Christian and inspirational books. This line of colorful, interactive children's books includes such notable titles as: VeggieTales and Berenstain Bears. They reach the top 10 best-selling children’s books during the Easter and Christmas seasons each year.

M.J. Thomas is a scholar in Bible studies and an author to The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls book series. When his son Peter was 9 he tried to find books that taught about the events in the Bible in a enjoyable, exciting, and captivating way. He didn't find any, so he decided to write his own. The main characters of the stories are named after his son Peter, his niece Mary, and his dog Hank.

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls by M.J. Thomas are a time-traveling adventure book series that helps kids explore the Bible and increase in faith. These stories combine biblical accuracy with mystery, wonder, imagination, adventure, danger, and excitement. Peter, Mary, and Hank have discovered ancient scrolls that help them travel back in time. These scrolls have clues to solve and the three must solve them before time runs out or they will become stuck in the past forever. You will also meet Great-Uncle Solomon, the eccentric archaeologist who discovered the scrolls, and the angel Michael, who aides the children on their quests. These are recommended to emerging readers ages 6-9, homeschooling families, and others that love adventure.

We have reviewed the first two books in the series, The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls and now we get to read the third and fourth books as well:
If you read below, just know there are spoilers...

In the third title of the series, The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Great Escape; Peter, Mary, and Hank were exploring a room in their Great-Uncle Solomon's home that had a sarcophagus and other treasures from Egypt when the call of the lion beckons them once more to open another scroll. This time they are thrust into ancient Egypt where they meet Princess Sephara, her father the Pharaoh, Moses, Aaron, and others at the time of the Exodus. They witness the pyramids, the palace, the Great Sphinx, devastating plagues, freedom of the Israelites, and parting of the Red Sea. With the help of Michael, an angel, they battle the forces of evil, the Great Magician who is Pharaoh's advisor and his black panther, Midnight. Will they solve the secrets of the scroll before the time runs out in fourteen days?

In The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: Journey to Jericho Peter, Mary, and Hank find a secret room in Great-Uncle Solomon's home that has a bunch of spy stuff. They learn something about Great-Uncle Solomon that they didn't know before and then get called by the lion's roar once again. This time they are called to the ancient desert outside the huge fortified city wall of Jericho. The time traveling trio meet Joshua, Caleb, Phinehas, and Rahab in their quest to solve the scroll. They get to watch as the Israelites take down the city wall. Will they solve the secrets of the scroll before the time runs out in fourteen days, the wall comes down, and the scheming Man in Black gets the scroll from them?

Teela Reading The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls The Great Escape book.

How We Used This and Our Thoughts:
Teela, my ten year old daughter, and I read these books separately. The third has 120 pages and 12 chapters. The forth book has 120 pages and 13 chapters. These were both a quick, fast paced read for the both of us. We both thought the books held our attention well. They also have some black and white drawings here and there in the books that were fun. At the end of each book there is a page that has where to read the actual story and synopsis in the authors own words of the chapters in the bible. These books had a lot of action and adventure throughout which made them fun to read.

I liked that the story basically follows with what happens in the bible fairly well. Even though there are fictitious elements in these books...like the kids traveling in time...they tell the story from the bible and make it come to life. Teela loved all the imaginative things that the author adds to make it seem like you are also there with main characters. The scrolls were a great idea also to make it even more of a challenge for the trio to get back to their time and we like that Peter writes things in his adventure journal that are included in the pages as well.

Teela and I enjoyed reading these books from The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls series. She told me they are fun books to read and she likes the series a lot. We love that these Christian kids books teach kids about the bible. These have a great lesson also to trust in God and he will always be there for you. We liked the action and adventure as well. These were fun books to read. We hope to be able to read more books from the series once they come out.

God I Know You’re There Book Review and Giveaway

I received this book free to facilitate this review. Affiliate links may be in this posting. Thanks for supporting my blog.

God I Know You're There is a children's board book written by bestselling author Bonnie Rickner Jensen and illustrated by Lucy Fleming. With lyrical rhyme and lovely illustrations this book shows little ones that if you look around you will see God in His creations. From the sun's rays that warm the Earth to stars that shine in the night sky. This book reminds children that God loves us, is near, and ever present even if they cannot see or touch Him. Each page will help them understand that there are many things in the world that we can't see, touch, or hear are just as real as God is. And even if God feels distant, He is real and He is near.

Zari enjoying the God I Know You’re There book.

What We Thought:
I love that this book helps capture the wonder and curiosity of a child asking: Where is God? and Is He real? It is a great book to teach about the presence of God and that He is real even though you may not see or touch Him. Both illustrations and rhyme were wonderful. Each of the multi-ethnic children in the illustrations have animal companions which are so cute too.

I recommend this board book for preschoolers through second graders most of all. It is the perfect size for little hands to hold and the sturdy pages are less vulnerable to tearing. My youngest daughter, Zari, who is in second grade loves this book! She is learning to read and this book has the perfect amount of words on each page for her. She also loves looking at the adorable illustrations as well.

Heirloom Audio For The Temple Review

My family had the privilege of listening to For The Temple from Heirloom Audio for this review to use in conjunction with our own curriculum. This is a Homeschool Review Crew Review. All opinions expressed are my own or those of my family.

My family and I love audio books! We love to listen to them while: I am multitasking, we have a long drive ahead of us, or there is cruddy weather and we are stuck inside. My family usually enjoys them better if they are fun and adventuresome. I believe they are better than movies because audio books require more imagination which is great for growing minds.

For The Temple is Heirloom Audio's 11th dramatization which is adapted from a novel by George Alfred Henty. G.A. Henty authored many historical fiction novels in the late 1800's and early 1900's, including For The Temple in 1880. All eleven Christian audio dramas are from Heirloom Audio's series known as The Extraordinary Adventures of G.A. Henty. This audio production and theatrical radio drama consists of 2 and a half hours of masterful storytelling on 2 CDs recommended for ages 6-adult. I cannot say enough good things about this. Really, the presentation is very extraordinary! It brings the history to life.

This audio theater follows John, the son of a wine maker and merchant, as he chooses to fight to protect the Temple from Roman conquest. Under the instruction of Josephus he goes on to become leader of a band of young men who will prove to be some of the Roman's most formidable foes. Along his journey he gains a good friend, Jonas, who saves John's life and his family takes in. This exciting and adventurous tale is all about the First Jewish–Roman War and destruction of the Temple by the Romans.

inside the case to For The Temple audio theater

I had some definite favorite parts of the Christian radio theatre. We liked the part of where John was training his men and one said something about using bad breath for a weapon. We also liked the part about John being very humble when he came home and not mentioning that he was the "Other John" Mary and Martha were speaking of that created mischief for the Romans because of the exaggeration of the stories. Titus's friendship of John was very fortuitous and in the end helped John and Jonas out of a pickle.

The 2 CD audio theater set itself has some nice bonuses if you get the physical version with the download. It has a list of the cast on the back of the case, a pamphlet insert that has a bit about Heirloom Audio's other audio dramas, and in the center under where the pamphlet goes is the quote from Josephus, "The time is coming when every jew who can bear arms will be needed in the service of his country. Your hopes cannot stop it.".

For The Temple Single Package includes:
  • For The Temple (CD Set - Physical Copy + Instant Access MP3 Download)

Adventure Progress

  • Chapter 1 – Cafe Landtmann
  • Chapter 2 – The Storm
  • Chapter 3 – Recruited
  • Chapter 4 – Loyalty
  • Chapter 5 – A Mighty Armada
  • Chapter 6 – First Taste of War
  • Chapter 7 – Jotapata Stands
  • Chapter 8 – Jotapata Falls
  • Chapter 9 – To Life!
  • Chapter 10 – Leader of the Band
  • Chapter 11 – Let The Harassment Begin
  • Chapter 12 – A Hero is Born
  • Chapter 13 – Tobin of Gischalla
  • Chapter 14 – The Other John
  • Chapter 15 – We Are Pledged to the Temple
  • Chapter 16 – A Walk Interrupted
  • Chapter 17 – Promises To Keep
  • Chapter 18 – Good News, Bad News
  • Chapter 19 – The Holy City
  • Chapter 20 – Battles Inside and Out
  • Chapter 21 – The Cruel Face of War
  • Chapter 22 – The Wall
  • Chapter 23 – For The Temple
  • Chapter 24 – August 5th AD 70
  • Chapter 25 – The Road To Rome
  • Chapter 26 – Homecoming
  • Chapter 27 – Always More Stories

The Homeschool Review Crew that received this for review received all of the above and these additional bonuses:

  • For The Temple Study Guide (Digital Download)

The all-star cast in this audio book is expansive and amazing. Some of the cast consists of Brian Blessed as G.A. Henty (Star Wars, Tarzan, Robin Hood, King Lear), Chris Larkin as Simon of Gadez (Master and Commander, Valkyrie), Jolyon Coy as Titus (Beauty and the Beast), Julian Rhind-Tutt as Josephus (Oliver Twist), Cathy Sara as Martha (Downton Abbey), and George Blagden as Simeon (Les Misérables). It is always great to hear the boisterous voice of Brian Blessed on these productions. All of the cast's performances are wonderful! The character building is wonderful too as long as you can keep up.

The six stars behind For The Temple.

I love the music and sound effects that accompany this program. The music that is used on the CDs is adventurous. It is an original score by Emmy-winning composer John Campbell (of Narnia). The Foley sound effects make you feel like you are right there with the characters and immerses you more into what's happening.

There is also a study guide that is 51 pages long. It has discussion points and questions to ask your children as they listen to the radio theater. This is wonderful to use as part of a history curriculum while homeschooling. It is really easier to listen to the whole program before you do the study guide and then listen again a second time to do the study guide, in my opinion. It feels awkward to stop and start the program so many times (every 4 to 10 minutes) during play. I wish this study guide had the tracks and time-stamp to stop at marked in the guide so you knew where the narrative takes a new turn, but it doesn't.

At the beginning of the study guide there is a list of the cast and crew and a brief introduction. Each track has questions in the study guide having three parts: Listening Well, Thinking Further, and Defining Words. There are questions in the Listening Well section which are to see if you and your child are really paying attention. There are questions in the Thinking Further section that helps you understand deeper and get you and your child thinking more. The Defining Words section is a list of words that will enhance the vocabulary of your child and places more meaning for the story. Having a dictionary handy might be appropriate because the definitions of the words are not already spelled out.

At the end of the study guide there are four main parts. The first is information about More on the Destruction of Jerusalem for Older Readers. After that there are three Bible Studies: one on No Other Savior, one on Proper Worship, and one on Christ Our Temple. Then there is a Some Background for Our Story portion which goes more into detail about: The Abomination of Desolation and The End of the Old Covenant Age.

My children learned and understood so much more with this study guide. We used the questions and Bible study section throughout and it made for a very lengthy, but interesting discussion session with my older kids. I am very glad that it was included. I love the scriptures it had you look up and ponder too. I also love that there were sections in boxes throughout the guide for further reading and other information to further your knowledge. I do wish, however, that there was an answer guide as well to the questions, because it would make the whole thing flow better in my opinion.

This was a very good production and my family enjoyed listening to it thoroughly. This audio book would be a wonderful addition to a Christian homeschooling curriculum and perfect to go along with a study about the First Jewish–Roman War, Temple of Jerusalem, and The Arch of Titus.
